Kyle Kingsbury will look to get back in the win column against UFC newcomer Glover Teixeira, who brings a 15-fight winning streak into his debut at UFC 146.
Glover Teixeira finally has a date for his UFC debut and it happens to be on one of the company’s biggest shows annually. According to the UFC, the light heavyweight prospect will face Kyle Kingsbury at UFC 146. The card is expected to take place May 26 from Las Vegas, Nevada.
Teixeira (17-2) has long been looked at as a future UFC fighter, honing his skills in Brazil, but had prevented from joining the organization due to visa issues. A black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Hitsu, Teixeira trains alongside Chuck Liddell at The Pit. In his most recent fight, Teixeira defeated Ricco Rodriguez by submission in the first round, his fifteenth straight victory. He has also earned past wins over Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou and Marvin Eastman during his career.
Kingsbury (11-3) is a veteran of The Ultimate Fighter who had a four-fight winning streak snapped against Stephan Bonnar last November. Kingsbury has won four of his fights by knockout during his career. Success in their scrap should be particularly important for “Kingsbu” who is 4-2 inside the Octagon but has only finished a single opponent during his post-TUF run.
UFC 146 has been growing an exponential rate over the past few days including additions to the card like Jason Miller-C.B. Dollaway, Gabriel Gonzaga-Shane Del Rosario, and Dan Hardy-Duane Ludwig.

Why is it that Brazilians are unequivocally the toughest in any promotion in the world? I want to conduct some sort of longitudinal study to investigate why Brazil breeds men and women that can turn on the type of aggression that humans generally save for pedophiles, serial killers and Black Friday sales like a tap. If you ask Joe Rogan, he’ll tell you it’s to do with the prevalence of toxoplasmosis in Brazil. I have no idea about that because I’m not an epidemiologist. If this is the case, it does explain why there are so many ridiculously tough Brazilian fighters in the UFC.
With a fifteen fight unbeaten run and a Shooto belt over his shoulder, Glover Teixeira (17-2) is the latest Brazilian to swagger over to the UFC to crush his enemies, see them driven before him, and to hear the lamentation of their women. When someone likes fighting as much as Teixeira it is hard to not compare him to Conan the Barbarian. The dude fights like he’s just read Fight Club for the first time and wants to prove to himself that he is a badass, even if that means fighting himself in a parking lot. Teixeira didn’t have to wait long for his first fight in the organisation to be announced however as he has been given Kyle Kingsbury on UFC 146 so I suggest you circle May 26th on your calendar vigorously in red pen. If you are not familiar with Teixeira don’t worry, we have you covered. Check out his most recent fight below, a win over Ricco Rodriguez at MMAAD in Brazil at the end of last year.
That was fast.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) wasted little time in giving Light Heavyweight import Glover Teixeira something to fight over, pairing him off against the venerable Kyle Kingsbury for a bout at the upcoming UFC 146 pay-per-view (PPV) event, scheduled for May 26, 2012, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The promotion announced the 205-pound contest late last night.
Teixeira (17-2) has been terrorizing the Brazilian circuit over the past six years, racking up 15 straight wins with a frightening 14 stoppages. He was last seen beating the relevance out of Ricco Rodriguez at "MMA Against Dengue" last November.
Kingsbury certainly has his work cut out for him.
"Kingsbu" (11-3) knows a thing or two about dealing with top Brazilian prospects, having put the kibosh on Fabio Maldonado's rise to fame during The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 13 season finale last June.
He was unable to replicate that performance against Stephan Bonnar in his next fight, losing by unanimous decision, but he's still a force to be reckoned with.
UFC 146 is expected to be headlined by the biggest fight of the year (literally), when heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos puts his strap on the line for the very first time against division number one contender and famed Dutch striker Alistair Overeem.
Middleweight TUF guy Jason Miller is also back in action taking on the venerable C.B. Dollaway while Edson Barboza goes to war against Evan Dunham.

Glover Teixeira (17-2) has been waiting for a long time to make it to the UFC. He'll finally get his chance on May 26th in Las Vegas when he faces TUF 8 veteran Kyle Kingsbury (11-3, 1 NC) at UFC 146. UFC.com offers the abbrievated news:
Longtime standout Glover Teixeira makes his highly-anticipated UFC debut in a light heavyweight bout against Kyle Kingsbury.
Not exactly the most detailed fight announcement, but there were a lot of fish to fry in that article. It seems like Teixeira has been perpetually UFC-bound since he knocked out Sokoudjou way back at WEC 24, but visa issues and injuries have kept the Chuck Liddell-trained Brazilian out of the organization. There are conflicting reports about whether he actually signed back in January or not, but he was offered a fight at UFC 142. He had to turn it down due to an injury, but he'll take a 15-fight win steak into the octagon in May instead.
Kingsbury was a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter 8 and dropped his initial UFC bout to Tom Lawlor, but put together an impressive four-fight winning streak in the aftermath, picking up two fight of the night bonuses along the way. His streak was stopped in his most recent bout against TUF 1 alum Stephan Bonnar, who picked up a unanimous decision win over "Kingsbu" at UFC 139 in November.
SBN coverage of UFC 146
The UFC 146 card continues to take shape with the addition of several matches on Wednesday.
The Memorial Day weekend event will take place in its traditional home of Las Vegas, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 26.
Among the bouts announced is one including the arrival of unbeaten former Strikeforce heavyweight Shane Del Rosario, who hasn't fought since last February after suffering major injuries during an April 2011 car accident. Del Rosario (11-0) will face Gabriel Gonzaga (13-6).
Also making his UFC debut during the event will be veteran light-heavyweight Glover Teixeira, who has been considered one of the best 205-pounders outside of Zuffa for several years. Teixeira had previously been wooed by the UFC, only to see his octagon hopes dashed by visa problems that have finally been solved.
Teixeira (17-2) is set to square off with Kyle Kingsbury. The AKA product recently had a four-fight win streak snapped in a decision loss to Stephan Bonnar.
In a featherweight bout, recent Ultimate Fighter season 14 winner Diego Brandao (14-7) will battle Darren Elkins (13-2). Brandao is coming off a comeback submission win over Dennis Bermundez in December, while Elkins is riding a two-fight win streak, with victories over Michihiro Omigawa and Zhang Tiequan.
Finally, Jacob Volkmann will put his five-fight win streak on the line against undefeated British submission artist Paul Sass (12-0).
UFC 146 is likely to feature a heavyweight championship main event with titleholder Junior dos Santos looking to defend against Alistair Overeem, although that fight has not yet been officially announced by the promotion.
Glover Teixeira finally seems to be heading to the UFC. The light heavyweight prospect has not lost since his 2005 bout with Ed Herman. MMAJunkie reports the Brazilian fighter will make his debut in early summer.
Teixeira is probably best-known for his appearance on the second season of TapouT where he appeared in an episode featuring fighters from The Pit.
Teixeira was expected to make his UFC debut years ago but visa issues kept him out of the US for several years. The issues led him from moving from The Pit to Blackhouse’s Brazil location.
After resolving his visa issues this past December, Teixeira is looking to continue his winning ways in the UFC with the help of his old and new teams.
The Brazilian fighter combines powerful boxing with black belt Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and has only seen a decision three times in nineteen fights.

A trip several years in the making is finally complete for Glover Teixeira (17-2). The Brazilian light heavyweight has signed a deal with the UFC to bolster the promotion's roster. Sources close to the situation confirmed the news to ULTMMA.com earlier in the week. The 32 year old Teixeira will most likely debut with the UFC sometime in the summer. With a 15 fight win streak intact Teixeira is a five star prospect whose time in a major league promotion is long overdue. Visa issues have bogged down Teixeira's career path since 2008. Teixeira first gained notoriety seven fights into his pro career when he knocked out future Pride star Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou (12-10). Teixeira would pick up two more wins in California before he took his career to Brazil in 2008. In his home country Teixeira would mostly compete under the Shooto and Bitetti Combat banners while rumors of US work visa issues followed the light heavyweight every time he fought. Teixeira capped off his final year on the Brazilian MMA scene with a 5-0 record in 2011. In his last bout Teixeira stopped former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez (48-15) with punches in the main event of MMA Against Dengue. A member of Ruas Vale Tudo, Teixeira was slotted as the number two light heavyweight prospect in MMA in the latest ULTMMA.com top 20 prospect listing.
Glover Teixeira has signed with the UFC.
After visa issues ultimately forced him out of the U.S. and ruined the possibility of a deal with the world's top promotion, the fast-rising light heavyweight has inked a UFC deal.
MMAjunkie.com today confirmed the signing with a source close to the fighter.
This is long overdue. URCC Cebu 7 happened almost two weeks ago, and I finally had the time to post the photos I took from the event. The show was headlined by a super-fight between the hometown hero and the #6 lightweight in the World MMA Scouting Report in Eduard Folayang, and the Brazilian Muay Thai Champ, and Nova Uniao BJJ Brownbelt in Wadson Teixeira.
It was a fight that lasted only 56 seconds, and saw Folayang survive an early knockdown and eventually finish the fight with vicious ground and pound. You can read the recap of the event here.
Pictured above is ONE FC 2 headliner Ole Laursen, who was visually disappointed that his teammate was so close to pulling off that upset. On the background is Teixeira, posing for photos after winning over and gaining the respect of the Filipino crowd for his performance.

You wouldn't know from just looking at the photo, but here are the head honchos of the URCC having a casual moment, relaxing after the weigh-ins:
Ole Laursen and his teammate, Wadson Teixeira after the weigh-ins.
One of three bouts that night that ended in less than a minute:
Roel Rusauro landed a brutal spinning back fist that left his opponent out cold, and motionless for minutes:
This was for the Visayan Pinweight Title. After a back and forth brawl on the opening minutes, Victor Torre chained a deep triangle and switched to an armbar to finish the fight:
Another gritty fight that went back and forth until Carry Bullos was able to sink in a Guillotine choke to win the Visayan Bantamweight Title:
Main Event, the superfight between Eduard Folayang and Wadson Teixeira. It only lasted for 56 seconds but it was a very entertaining bout. They stood for a bit, Folayang landed a couple of shots until the Muay Thai champ in Teixeira landed a hook that drops Folayang.
Folayang recovers quickly on his guard, reverses position and takes Teixeira down.
Teixeira, who is also a BJJ Brown belt, tried a guillotine choke as Folayang took him down.
Folayang excapes, and lands very heavy ground and pound. Teixeira motions to tap, but he still goes out and was down for several moments:
After the fight. A disappointed Ole Laursen sporting a jersey of his new Boracay gym, with his teammate in the background taking photos with Filipino fans who gained respect for the Brazilian fighter who almost stopped the local hero:

BloodyElbow.com was on deck at the packed Cebu International Convention Center as the Philippines' biggest star headlined URCC Cebu 7: Dominate.
In what has almost been a trademark in each of his fights, Eduard Folayang once again displayed his massive heart and found a way to win despite facing adversity early on.
Folayang landed a few shots standing before getting dropped by a flush left hook from the Brazilian Muay Thai champion in Wadson Teixeira. The Wushu expert survived, regained guard, and reversed the position only to fall on a guillotine attempt from the BJJ brownbelt. Folayang defended well, and started raining down several of the loudest elbows I have ever heard. After taking all those heavy elbows, Teixeira signaled to tap, but the Nova Uniao and Legacy Gym product still went out, and remained down on the mat for an extended period.
All that in just 56 seconds of fighting.
With the victory, Folayang, who is ranked as the #6 lightweight in the World MMA Scouting Report, improved to 11-1 and extended his winning streak to six.

John Teixeira

Macapa

This is a guest post by Rory MacLeod (smoogy)
From Lyoto Machida and Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza to Jose Aldo and Diego Brandao, the Amazon region of Brazil is known for producing elite MMA stars with some of the best technique in the game. Though mostly unknown outside of the region, undefeated Muay Thai specialist John "Macapa" Teixeira (12-0-1) aspires to continue that legacy in earnest.
Incidentally, Macapa could easily pass himself off as Jacare's little brother at a glance. A lifelong athlete who abstains from smoking and drinking, Teixeira fits the familiar mold of a freewheeling, yet technical Brazilian Muay Thai fighter who prefers attacking at a distance or in the clinch, but can also grapple out of takedowns and attack with his own submissions.
Training under Master Orlando Junior, Teixeira's namesake is his home city of Macapa, where he has established himself as a force to be reckoned with for his fellow lightweights. But at just 5'7", he would be wise to consider making the cut to featherweight as the strength of his competition increases. At that weight, his ability to put together combinations punctuated by kicks at a distance would be even more effective, and with conditioning being an area that could use improvement, he can afford to drop the weight.
Macapa fought most recently in October and picked up the strongest win of his career to date, a first round submission over Fortaleza journeyman Jamil Silveira (32-14). Despite his eye-catching record, he needs more wins at this level or better to really entice a major promotion to bid for his services. He's made no secret of his ambition to challenge top Brazilian lightweights like Fransisco Drinaldo and Adriano Martins, but surgeries for a knee injury and an intestinal disorder in 2009 briefly put his journey up the ranks on hiatus. Now fully recovered, Teixeira has some catching up to do, but as a main event level attraction in his home town, he is well positioned to get the matchups he needs to assert himself as a top Brazilian who warrants at shot on the world stage.

Ricco Rodriguez gets taken out by Glover Teixeira. This finish is extra sweet because it was also for a good cause or something:
Promoted by the Department of Health and the State Government of Rio de Janeiro, the event MMA Contra a Dengue (MMA Against Dengue) brought the proposal of educate the public to the dangers of contracting the disease, but also helped to spread even more MMA in Brazil.
Teixeira is currently stuck in Brazil over 'visa issues', which is a pretty unfortunate situation for people who wanna see him in the UFC and the Brazilian fighters who have to face him in the meantime. He's now 5-0 this year and 18-2 overall. Let's hope he can manage to get himself international sooner or later. If it's a paperwork issue, it's just a matter of time. If he's suspected of murdering a hooker in Sao Paolo ... it might take a bit longer.
