For any new or casual fan of mixed martial arts that knows the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is not the only MMA show in town, it can be difficult to gauge the talent or legitimacy of some of the national and regional organizations.
In fact, there are so many smaller organizations that even the most hardcore of the hardcore MMA fans couldn't name 80-percent of them.
My FanPost will try to break down a good portion of the current leagues into four Tiers: Major Leagues, Minor Leagues, "C" Leagues, and "D" Leagues, along with some now-defunct organizations and also a overall ranking.
The criteria I will use are number of shows, years of operation, validity of matchmaking, television deals, whether they hold regional, national, or International shows and most importantly, strength of roster. (Note: when it comes to rosters, it is every notable fighter to ever fight in that organization.)
Matchmaking and roster will be given a number (1-6) that break down like this:
1=Bad
2=So-So
3=Good
4=Strong
5=Great
6=Awesome
Note: * = Now Defunct Organization
Let's get started.

Random Stats and Thoughts
Most Major League Future Champions Among the Minor leagues
WEC: Four (Jose Aldo, Dominick Cruz, Carlos Condit, Ben Henderson)
Rings: Four (Fedor Emelianenko, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Randy Couture, Dan Henderson)
WFA: Three (Quinton Jackson, Rich Franklin, Lyoto Machida)
Most Major league past champions among the minor leagues
Strikeforce: Five (Fedor Emelianenko, Frank Shamrock, Josh Barnett, Dan Henderson, Andrei Arlovski)
Affliction: Five (Fedor Emelianenko, Vitor Belfort, Josh Barnett, Andrei Arlovski, Tim Sylvia)
ZUFFA the UFC's parent company has bought PrideFC (#2), WEC (#3), Strikeforce (#4) and the WFA (#20) since December of 2006.
KOTC, Shooto, MFC and Deep have been around a long while and have seen lots of top 10 fighters come through their doors and on to the big leagues and vice versa. These are the true feeder leagues for the US, Canada, and Japan. (If anyone has any info on a Brazilian league of this sort, please post in the comments.)
Nomad list (fighters that have fought for multiple organizations.)
Fedor Emelianenko: Five (Pride, Dream, Affliction, Strikeforce, Rings)
Nick Diaz: Five (UFC, Pride, WEC, Strikeforce, EliteXC)
Renato Sobral: Five (UFC, Strikeforce, Affliction, Cage Rage, Rings)
Jens Pulver: Five (UFC, Pride, WEC, IFL, TitanFC)
Tied with four: Anderson Silva, Dan Henderson, Vitor Belfort, Quinton Jackson, Josh Barnett and Shinya Aoki.
IFL was the first MMA Promotion to pay for healthcare of fighters while training, four years before ZUFFA did it.
With the UFC's Debut in Sweden next month, they will have traveled to more countries (11) than any other MMA Organization. Shooto held events in 10 Countries.
The UFC has already held events on more continents than any other promotion with five in Europe, Asia, Australia and both North and South America. (Shooto has only four and has never been to South America.)
I couldn't find the exact number of Pancrase, Shooto, or Deep events. The UFC had 200 so far and if they are not in the lead yet, they will be eventually.
That's a warp, folks. What did you think of the rankings? Agree or disagree? Let your voice be heard!
The UFC has announced the roster of lightweight fighters who have been selected to partake in the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter. This season, the 15th edition, will air live on FX, starting every Friday on March 9th. The season will debut with a two and a half hour premiere, which will feature all 16 of the first round fights, with the winners earning a spot in the competition along with a spot in the house.
Season 15 of The Ultimate Fighter will feature two coaches who have fought twice before, UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz and former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber.
The lightweight-only cast of 32 fighters features few notables, with former season 13 TUF contestant Myles Jury the most distinguished. Jury (9-0), was eliminated from the show due to a torn ACL and meniscus prior to fighting past the preliminary round. Although he was removed from the show, UFC President Dana White stated that if he recovered he would be allowed to return.
The roster includes 27 fighters from the United States, 2 from England, 1 from Northern Ireland, 1 from Brazil, and 1 from Guam.
The Ultimate Fighter season 15 will debut on FX on March 9th at a special start time of 9 PM EST. Following the premiere episode, the show will air at 10 PM EST every Friday. Episodes will air taped content from the previous week and then conclude live with one or two fights between contestants.

Well, Dana did say he would never fight in the UFC again so we can't call him a liar!
This could be a good addition to the Strikeforce roster assuming he can stay out of the troubles that have plagued him in the past. I am hopeful because Luke Rockhold could use a solid challenge.
THQ has revealed the “epic roster” for UFC Undisputed 3 ahead of the game’s February 14 release on Xbox and Playstation, which includes 150 fighters across 7 weight classes, including bantamweight and featherweight as well as the new PRIDE mode.
Check out the UFC Undisputed 3 video below:
Check out the official roster-reveal video for "UFC Undisputed 3," which will be released on Feb. 14 and features over 150 fighters and the new Pride mode.
150 fighters + seven weight classes = epic roster.
Players in the UFC Undisputed 3 video game will be able to travel back in time and fight in the now-defunct PRIDE organization. Yes, that means soccer kicks, knees to a downed opponent and even commentary from Bas Rutten and Stephen Quadros.
PRIDE never die!
In addition, UFC Undisputed 3 will offer two new weight classes as well as an expanded roster for this year's release, which will be available for the Sony PlayStation 3 and MIcrosoft's Xbox 360 on Feb. 14, 2012.
Here's a bit more from THQ:
Players will also experience the excitement of a live UFC event through significant visual improvements, including the introduction of much-anticipated fighter entrances, new camera positions, improved facial animations and a gritty, high contrast appearance. They will enter into battle with an unparalleled choice of more than 150 playable UFC fighters, including talent from the newly added featherweight and bantamweight divisions. Rounding out the virtual UFC experience with a significantly revamped online experience, as well as a variety of new and returning gameplay modes, UFC Undisputed 3 lets players have their fights - their way - to deliver the most intense, competitive and engaging experience to date for the franchise.
Let's hear it Maniacs -- are you excited about UFC Undisputed 3? Is it worth buying for the PRIDE rules alone? What changes are you most looking forward to from the previous two entries? And how many of you are now lobbying for your girlfriend to hook you up with this on Valentine's Day?

Josh Nason has an interesting piece up over at Bloody Elbow suggesting that Strikeforce's future ought to be rooted in women's MMA. He argues, among other things, that it would distinguish the Strikeforce brand and open up MMA to a new range of fans and sponsors...
We don't need more of the same MMA: Strikeforce's talent roster is thin and everyone knows it. There are guys fighting in the UFC solely because they're filling spots -- not because they're among the best fighters in the world. There's enough UFC events in 2012 to get the top Strikeforce talent action and create more exciting cards as a result. If they have to cut guys on either roster, so be it. Take aboard the best and let's get after it already. We simply don't need more of what we've seen this year: events for hardcore fans and constant questions of when the top talent like Melendez are going to shift over. Unless they move a hundred fighters from UFC over to Strikeforce to fill out the roster, what's the purpose in keeping it as is?
It's a unique idea that hasn't been done on a national stage before: The UFC is on TV all the time. HDNet has hundreds of hours of live events a year. Bellator runs 25+ events a year. None of them have truly embraced women's MMA other than a scant few fights. If a promotion can actually focus solely on putting together the best women in the world, they will lead the pack in something new. Who doesn't want that?
Zuffa has the money to do it: If there's any company in the world that can afford to take the risk, it's Zuffa. They also have the money and resources to do it right. Focus on two power divisions (130/140 or 135/145) and build from there. Sign everyone you can and make stars. Do what White has said there isn't and create depth by bringing all of this talent under one roof and pay them well to do so.
Run smaller venues and less shows as you build: There's no reason to book 5000 seat arenas. Smaller 1500 seat venues like the Pearl or likewise are just fine, but price tickets accordingly. Book events in hometowns of main eventers like WEC did with Urijah Faber back in the day. Treat Strikeforce like a startup and focus on making six events a year as strong as you can.
Promotion to a new group: A women's only promotion would help in attracting a new audience to educate. Find appropriate sponsors. Play to all audiences. Find a way to build more draws like Ronda Rousey and Tate. If the sport is going to grow, its athletes need a major league to strive for, one that will allow women to train full-time and make some good money for competing. There are other potential stars out there that just need to have airtime to show their skills.
I think it's a fascinating idea, but I ultimately disagree with it, and it all comes down to his first point.
I've written on the subject already, but to summarize: the UFC simply can't support the entirety, or even just the best, of Strikeforce's roster. A lot of number crunching was done in the wake of the WEC merger, and the results revealed that while the UFC may be growing in terms of exposure and prestige, its roster isn't expanding all that much. What this means is that if Strikeforce were to become women-only, and you wanted to continue watching Gegard Mousasi, Ovince St. Preux, Mo Lawal, Rafael Feijao, Mike Kyle, and Lorenz Larkin, you'd have to find nearly just as many current UFC light-heavyweights to jettison to free up space. So who gets tossed?
Regarding his last three points, I'm in total agreement, but Strikeforce ought to be doing those things now, regardless of whether or not the organization promotes women's MMA exclusively.
The rumors were true. There is a separate PRIDE roster in UFC Undisputed 3 and THQ has revealed which fighters made the list.
Several PRIDE staples like Fedor Emelianenko, Alistair Overeem, Josh Barnett, Ricardo Arona and Kazushi Sakuraba (to name a few) are missing, but their absence is more than made up with the inclusion of one name — Don Frye. I might buy it just for him!

UFC Undisputed 3, the latest entry into the popular mixed martial arts video game series from THQ, will hit store shelves in Jan.2012. The new edition features a bevy of interesting fresh features, including traveling back in time to fight in the now-defunct PRIDE organization, complete with stomps, Bas Rutten on commentary and even Lenne Hardt introductions.
Pride never die!
Now it won't thanks to a healthy blend of nostalgia and cutting-edge technology, which will also allow us to relive those rematches and historic clashes that disappeared along with the former Japanese-based promotion. Chuck Liddell already got his revenge over Quinton Jackson (see video here), but don't expect "Cro Cop" to get any against Fedor Emelianenko because, well, the Russian legend is unsurprisingly excluded from the roster.

Why isn't Matt Mitrione on the UFC Undisputed 3 roster?
Well, just like the sport it's modeled after, sometimes you need to make tough cuts in the virtual world of mixed martial arts, which is why in addition to "Meathead," you also won't find Anthony Johnson, Stephan Bonnar, Joe Lauzon or Rory MacDonald.
At least, not yet.
Because THQ must plan far in advance which fighters it will actually include in the upcoming video game, the 2010 fight campaign weighed heavily when trying to figure out who should stay and who should go.
The good news is the digital publisher has already announced downloadable content (DLC) for UFC Undisputed 3, which is likely to introduce fighters who are new to the scene or have fought there way back into divisional relevancy.
Pasta Padre has more:
As has been noted throughout the roster reveal process there are several relevant fighters who for one reason or another didn’t make it for UFC Undisputed 3. Names like Nam Phan, Anthony "Rumble" Johnson, Matt Mitrione, Joe Lauzon, and a number of others are nowhere to be found. Through their Twitter account THQ has confirmed there will be post-launch DLC offered for UFC 3 and that some of the names mentioned will be included.
It’s possible the company could look to implement a DLC plan similar to that of their WWE franchise. There it involves paying an upfront sum (offering a savings) that would include all DLC to be released over the course of the product lifespan – or the ability to buy the DLC piece by piece for something like $1 each fighter.
UFC Undisputed 3 is set for release in "early 2012," and will bring two new weight classes as well as a "PRIDE mode" to allow players to compete in the now-defunct PRIDE FC organization.
But would you be willing to lay out a few extra bucks for DLC if it means getting to play as your favorite fighter?
Thoughts?

After the jump, a complete breakdown including several notable snubs from the video game.
The Heavyweights:
2 - new additions to the roster, with one deserving of the slot, and one head scratcher. I'll leave it at that.
12 - fighters from the UFC Undisputed 2010 game that aren't listed on this roster. Most of them have been cut or have retired, with a few of them probably making it on the PRIDE division. Here are the 12 fighters missing from the current list:
Andrei Arlovski, Antoni Hardonk, Eddie Sanchez, James McSweeney, Justin McCully, Kimbo Slice, Marcus Jones, Todd Duffee, and Mostapha Al Turk. There are also three guys on last year's game that might be on the PRIDE Roster - Heath Herring, Fabricio Werdum, and Dan Severn.
Notable Snubs:
Randy Couture - Like what I mentioned on the light heavyweight breakdown, the UFC Hall-of-Famer also wasn't on last year's roster from that whole issue with his rights being signed to the guys at EA MMA.
Alistair Overeem - He hasn't signed with the UFC at the time the developers made the roster, so this isn't really surprising, but hopefully they added the slim version of himself to the PRIDE roster... or at the very least, make the mammoth sized version available for DLC.
Matt Mitrione - I fail to see why they included McCorkle, and not Mitrione.
Mike Russow - He's in the top 20, but I'm pretty sure there aren't much guys up in arms about him being snubbed.
Joey Beltran and Dave Herman - Herman was a recent addition to the UFC, so it's understandable why he's not here. Either way, they're not exactly the most popular guys on the roster anyway.
Kimbo Slice - Yeah, I know he got cut, but since he was in the game last year anyway, I was really hoping to set him up on freakshow bouts in PRIDE.
The Middleweights:
6 - New additions to the roster, with the most notable guys being Stann, Mayhem, Munoz, and Palhares.
8 - Fighters from UFC Undisputed 2010 that aren't listed on this roster, with a few probably making it to the PRIDE division. Here are the 8 guys missing from the list:
Dan Miller, Drew McFedries, Nate Quarry, Patrick Cote and Wilson Gouveia, with a few guys that might make the PRIDE list - Dan Henderson, Denis Kang, and Ricardo Almeida.
Notable snubs:
Dan Miller - Sure, he's hit a rough patch lately, but the guy is still on the top 25 in the world, and was also on the last video game. Jorge Rivera made the list, so I think Miller should be in it too.
Tim Boetsch - He recently just dropped down to middleweight, so it's pretty understandable that he's not listed here. He's pretty talented though, and I think he deserves a slot.
Chris Weidman - Also understandable for not being in the game, as he just recently cracked the top 25, with two big wins.
The Featherweights:
16 - fighters on the roster, all of them are obviously new additions with the featherweight and bantamweight divisions being included.
1 - Surprising entry, Zhang Tie Quan. Some people might complain that he made the game over the snubs that are listed below, and with him not exactly looking that great in the UFC, I wouldn't blame them for thinking that. I personally think it's great, and I'm looking forward to having multiple guillotine attempts per round. I wonder how much units of this game they can sell in China because of this.
Notable Snubs:
Hatsu Hioki - He's one of the best in the world, but he's just about to make his debut on UFC 137, so I would understand why he's not yet in the game.
Michihiro Omigawa - He's top 15 in the world, although he's just a recent addition to the UFC roster, and he hasn't exactly impressed everyone on his UFC fights so far.
Tyson Griffin - He was on last year's roster, and after having a tough run at lightweight, he made a successful featherweight debut against Manny Gamburyan and eventually cracked the top 10. He made his return to featherweight at the same month Florian made his, so I guess they should've included him in the game as well.
Dustin Poirier - He's in the top 15 as well.
Rani Yahya, Darren Elkins, and Robert Peralta - These recent additions to the top 25, aren't really among the most popular fighters in the roster, so there might not be a lot of people upset about this.
UFC Undisputed 3, the latest entry into the popular mixed martial arts video game series from THQ, will hit store shelves in January 2012. The new edition features a bevy of interesting fresh features, including traveling back in time to fight in the now-defunct PRIDE organization, complete with soccer kicks, stomps and Bas Rutten on commentary.
Not only that, the roster has been expanded to include both bantamweights and featherweights.
Speaking of which, THQ is releasing the list of names for the full roster and next up we've got the 185-pounders representing the eight walls of pain, starting with none other than division deity Anderson Silva.
And yes, the man he (and Steven Seagal) put a hurtin' on at UFC 126: "Silva vs. Belfort" back on Feb. 5, Vitor Belfort, is also getting a digital doppelganger.

THQ continues to drip feed us roster details for UFC Undisputed 3 (yes, they abandoned the annual designations after no one bought Undisputed 2010). Thus far it's been interesting not because of who's in the game - if you assumed most of the guys on the actual UFC roster, you'd be correct - but who isn't. We've already gone through the notable no-showables from the 155 and 205 divisions. Now we get to find out who's not feeling the love at heavyweight and featherweight. Most amusing is the exclusion of Chang Sung Jung and Nam Phan. But of course Leonard Garcia is included, which proves his Hypno-Garcia powers of influence work on more than just MMA judges. Tyson Griffin is also missing, which is strange considering he's been in the UFC for 5 years and is one of the better known guys fighting at 145 now. And I guess Hatsu Hioki is just too new to include, even though half the MMA universe has him pegged as the second best featherweight in the world after Jose Aldo.As for the Heavyweights, Mark Hunt, Matt Mitrione and Joey Beltran are missing and while retiree Chuck Liddell is still at 205, Randy Couture is now officially off the roster. Interestingly enough, there's a few guys listed who aren't even a part of the promotion any more. Gabriel Gonzaga is still listed and so is Sean McCorkle. There's also a video up at MiddleEasy that implies Heath Herring and Mark Coleman are included in PRIDE mode, making me wonder what use these roster lists are if they aren't even complete.
The UFC Undisputed 3 roster announcements continued today. This time it’s the featherweights, and you shall be pleased to know that Kenny Florian, who was missing from the lightweight roster, is included on the featherweight roster. Tyson Griffin is a different story however. He’s not on either list.

Who are the notable snubs on this latest roster? Check out after the jump.
The lightweights:
8 additions from last year's roster, with the most notable ones being Jim Miller, and the guys coming from the UFC-WEC merger (Pettis, Bendo, Cerrone).
12 fighters have been removed with most of them have either been released from the promotion, or have changed divisions (Sanchez, Florian, Griffin, Diaz?)
Notable snubs:
Nate Diaz - Currently ranked #14 in the lightweight division. He was in last year's roster, but moved up to welterweight, and just recently dropped back down to lightweight where he drubbed Takanori Gomi. He might just be on the WW roster, but if not, Diaz is a one of the most notable snubs in the game.
Rafael Dos Anjos - Currently Ranked #16 in the lightweight division, and recently knocked out George Sotiropoulos who is a new addition to the roster.
Joe Lauzon - He was on last year's roster, so it doesn't make much sense why he's not in the game anymore. Now that he recently had a big win over Melvin Guillard, maybe the developers should consider putting him back in the game.
Gleison Tibau and Matt Wiman - Both guys are ranked in the top 25 in the world, although they're not as popular to the casual fans as the other fighters in the roster, so it is understandable.
Cole Miller - He's on last year's roster, and his only loss in the past 2 years was from fellow snubbed fighter, Matt Wiman.
The Light Heavyweights:
4 new additions from last year's roster with the most notable being Mr. Wonderful and Lil' Nog.
6 fighters from last year's roster that were removed, with most of them have either been released from the promotion (Coleman, Jardine), or is on ugly losing streaks (Cane, Cantwell).
Notable Snubs:
Randy Couture - The UFC Hall-of-Famer also wasn't on last year's roster, from that whole issue with his rights being signed to the guys at EA MMA.
Alexander Gustafsson - He's been tearing up a bunch of light heavyweights, and recently earned his #15 ranking in the light heavyweight standings.
Krzysztof Soszynski and Stephan Bonnar - Neither guy are on the top of the division, although both guys were on last year's roster, and both guys are enjoying 2-fight winning streaks. Bonnar has always been mentioned as a staple in the UFC, so it's a bit weird how they decided not to include him in the game.
Stanislav Nedkov - He just recently cracked the top 25 with his win over Luiz Cane, so while the guy has talent, it is understandable that he wasn't added on the roster just yet.

Speaking of which, THQ is releasing the list of names for the full roster and up first, we've got the light heavyweights (205-pounds). You can play as division champion Jon Jones, who has an all new selection of strikes, including a right back fist, or current number one contender Lyoto Machida, who boasts the front kick you watched him knock Randy Couture out with.
Or, if you'd like, you can even use retired Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell to knock a few heads off for the old school.
