Boxing has the WBA, WBO, IBF and the WBC. Is that the equivalent to UFC, Pride, Elite XC, and Strikeforce? Huge MMA fan here and I'm hoping it never runs into the same problems as boxing. With one league (UFC) I think they can avoid many of the pitfalls boxing had run into. submitted by thatguy52 [link] [4 comments]
Retired UFC fan favorite Chris Lytle (Rep.) came up short in his run for the Indiana Senate. Lytle lost out to Mike Crider by 11% of the vote.
Lytle became a quick MMA fan favorite due to his exciting fights and well-rounded skill set during his last run with the UFC.
Lytle launched his campaign a month after his successful retirement fight against Dan Hardy. Lytle has not announced any immediate plans for his future.
Lytle ran on a Republican based platform founded on job creation, education, gun rights, illegal immigration, term limits, and other issues.

When he's not rapping drunk in Japan, Quinton Jackson is slapping drunken fans in the U.S.
After a long, hard few days of running down the UFC on Twitter, figuring out he needs surgery on both his knees, and taking his love of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) to Sylvester Stallone levels, "Rampage" hit a nightclub in Los Angeles to wind down.
And wind up five fingers for one lucky fan who was begging to be slapped. Requested and received.
For what it's worth, the fan offered his chin up and gave no resistance to the shot to the dome. Despite this, Jackson still hasn't knocked anyone out since Wanderlei Silva back in 2008.
Tsk tsk.
Everyone has a dream. Some dream about expensive cars and traveling around the world, while other's about having a full sparring session with the reigning UFC Featherweight champion Jose Aldo. "Junior" made one of those dreams come true, getting himself into Muay Thai and BJJ sparring session with a quite skillful MMA fan.

On March 11th, from the Andheri Sports Complex in Mumbai, India, Super Fight League presents their inaugural event, SFL 1.The fight card, which will be headlined by a Super Heavyweight showdown between Bob "The Beast" Sapp and James "The Colossus" Thompson, marks another historic moment in the sport, as it is the first organized professional MMA event in the country."I am a huge MMA fan and knowing it's the fastest growing sport in the world, I'd hate to see India get left behind," says Raj Kundra, Founder
If you're an MMA fan and you spend any time at all on Twitter - or Facebook, MMA forums or any other online destination - you've probably seen a fairly big campaign to get Tim Sylvia back in the UFC.
Even Sylvia, a former UFC champ, admits the support is surprising.
But he hopes it'll amplify his message to the UFC: "I made a mistake. I was wrong. I'm sorry. I screwed up. But give me a second chance please. I'm pretty much begging."
YouTubeSensation.com. Unfortunately for this guy, it's already been claimed by a 'New media' director named Joshua de la Fuente. In his latest film, he documented a pillow fight in Los Angeles. Don't worry, I've never heard of the guy either. However, there's another self-proclaimed 'YouTube sensation' that completely dominates your perception on what an MMA fan truly is. You may be a card-carrying MMA fan, but your membership means nothing if you've never encountered the 'YouTube Sensation.'
LayzieTheSavage attended Superior Cage Combat 4 in Las Vegas last night which featured an entertaining headliner of Kendall Grove vs. Jay Silva. During the event, Dan Hardy and LayzieTheSavage noticed an interesting MMA fan hovering around the cage. Layzie pulled out the camera and documented the path of the 'YouTube Sensation.' There's even a Dana White appearance towards the end. We think you're going to enjoy this one.
Ask any MMA fan or analyst what the best base for MMA is and the majority will say wrestling. Next to wrestling, the next closest answer is probably jiu-jitsu...
Variey reports that MTV’s “MMA” reality show “Caged” drew poor ratings in its debut. The show drew 619,000 viewers and only a 0.64 rating in the targeted 12-34 demographic.
The series features young, small town males trying to make it in the local MMA promotion. Unbeknownst to the MMA fan hoping to watch young, up and comers trying to make it up the ladder, many of the main characters are self-trained and are only looking to party and score girls. While the partying and girl problems may be an inherent part (for some) of being a young athlete, the series fell short on MMA.
Payout Perspective:
The debut did run opposite the BCS National Championship Game so that might be a reason for the lower than expected ratings. However, after seeing the first episode, many fans hoping to see an MMA reality show may not tune in again. The 10 episode run caters to a certain MTV reality audience interested in shows like “Teen Mom,” “Jersey Shore” and “The Theriot Family.” “Caged” served as the intro to “Shore” and “Theriot” on Monday night. While MMA fans were enticed by the MMA marketing, it was a disappointment.
It's a good day / night / early morning to be an MMA fan as we not only get some serious UFC action starting with prelims at 6:50PM EST but kooky Japanese combat sports running from 1AM until 9AM. And while I'm probably going to pass out when the kickboxing and pro wrestling starts, the Fightlinker chat will be up all night long and ready for your salty comments.

Any MMA fan with UFC Undisputed has had the pleasure of seeing some of their favorite fighters throw down through XBOX Live, though only in a digitally rendered sense. However, a change on that front is scheduled to take place later this month when the UFC teams with XBOX Live to provide a free service for gamers with the outlet’s standard “Gold” access.
Simply called UFC on XBOX Live, the soon-to-be-unveiled online section makes its debut on December 20 in anticipation of UFC 141’s year-ending festivities.
Specifically, features will include the option to watch streaming content in HD such as weigh-ins, open workouts, and Countdown specials, as well as tinker with interactive fight cards, pick winners while comparing your success against friends’, and order PPVs to avoid the hassle of cable companies or interrupted satellite feeds. It will also be compatible with XBOX Kinect, providing people a unique opportunity to interact with menus using voice/motion commands.
Microsoft released a brief “sizzle reel” for the service featuring a handful of popular UFC fighters, as well as UFC President Dana White, speaking about the impact the company’s expansion could have and seeming jazzed in general about what’s to come.

Topps "Moment of Truth” UFC trading cards (Pic). Shopping for that MMA fan for the holidays and need some ideas? "Each box includes one autographed card, one memorabilia card containing authentic UFC fight used Octagon mat pieces, fight used hand tape, and/or fighter-worn shirts and shorts as well and one card with both autograph and memorabilia piece." Anyone think those features warrant a $59.99 price tag?

Nick Diaz's coach and mentor, Cesar Gracie, shared thoughts about his product's performance against BJ Penn in the last night's main event of UFC 137. According to Gracie, the upcoming bout between the reigning UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre and Nick Diaz is going to be the biggest in UFC history, and a must-watch for every MMA fan out there. Gracie also spoke about Diaz's preparations for the fight with Penn, and the obstacles en route to UFC 137 triumph.

Just one week after overcoming an overwhelming opening round beatdown at the hands of Gray Maynard to knock him out in the fourth round at UFC 136, Frankie Edgar paid a visit to the New York Jets in advance of their Monday Night Football game against the Miami Dolphins tomorrow night (Oct. 17). Head Coach Rex Ryan, a noted MMA fan, asked Edgar to do the same last year and "The Answer" provided enough inspiration to help fuel a come-from-behind win against Houston. That eventually led to the team making the AFC Championship game. Will Edgar provide the same boost this year? Any Jets fans in the house feeling lucky?
HOUSTON - To the casual MMA fan, Kenny Florian's name might not
immediately seem like it belongs next to those of Chuck Liddell and Matt
Hughes.
It might not even seem right nestled next to Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar.
And sure, the 35-year-old "KenFlo" will likely never find himself in the UFC
Hall of Fame, but according to UFC president Dana White, Florian is among a handful of legendary competitors who will
always have a home in the world's biggest mixed-martial-arts promotion.
