The opening-round matchups are set for one of the U.K.'s biggest tournaments. As the organization announced back in November, Cage Warriors will crown a new middleweight champion at the conclusion of an eight-man, multi-event tournament. Former middleweight champion Rich Franklin recently had surgery to fix a torn labrum, and will be on the sidelines until mid-2012. Franklin’s surgery was a success, and we will just have to wait and see how he heals over the next few months. “I spoke with Rich; he’s feeling great and as soon as the doctor gives him the go-ahead, he’s ready to start training again,” said TJ Stewart, Franklin’s manager, speaking to ESPN. “If everything goes as expected, UFC fans could see Rich Franklin back in the Octagon in late summer [of 2012].” It’s a shame that Franklin will need to sit for so long, especially since he’s 37 years old and only has so much time left in his MMA career.
