Michael Johnson is aware of his role against Tony Ferguson.
After two opponents fell through for the winner of "The Ultimate Fighter 12," officials are just happy not to scramble any more. Ferguson would probably tell Johnson to get bubble-wrapped before he would talk trash.
Nevertheless, Johnson is an underdog leading into the fight, and as he told MMAjunkie.com Radio, he likes where he is.
After kicking in the MMA radio community’s proverbial door last weekend with a debut episode highlighted by Johny Hendricks’ thoughts on Josh Koscheck and a visit from Ultimate Fighter 8 champion Efrain Escudero, Rebellion MMA Radio is back this Sunday with another stacked show!
Joining hosts Bryan Levick and Mitch Ciccarelli to talk all-things Mixed Martial Arts will be UFC lightweight Tony Ferguson, Bellator’s bubbly, blonde ring-girl Jade Bryce, and UFC writer E. Spencer Kyte.
Ferguson, who has been on fire since winning TUF 13, is currently in the midst of training for a fight against Michael Johnson on May 5 at UFC on FOX 3. The 13-2 striker has finished eleven of his opponents and is currently on a six-fight winning streak.
Meanwhile, Bryce can be seen every Friday night on MTV 2 as part of the Bellator crew (as well as in Playboy for those of you who “read the articles”), and Kyte’s work can be frequently found on UFC.com as well as in the organization’s magazine, Fight! Magazine, and The Province in Vancouver.

Ultimate Fighter 13 winner Tony Ferguson will hope the third time’s a charm where scheduled opponents are concerned after watching Thiago Tavares, a replacement for original adversary Dennis Hallman, go down with injury while training for a May 5 match-up at UFC on FOX 3. Based on the Brazilian’s condition the UFC has now booked TUF 12 finalist Michael Johnson to face the surging striker on the event’s undercard.
News of the match-up was confirmed earlier this week by the UFC.
Ferguson has looked sharp in all of his Octagon appearances, going 3-0 thus far since his run on TUF. The 28-year old is 13-2 in his career and on a six-fight winning streak including five strike-based stoppages. Most recently “El Cucuy” was seen picking apart veteran Yves Edwards en route to a decision victory.
Johnson, who himself has never been finished via TKO, has also shown flashes of brilliance in his UFC career and looked better than ever against Shane Roller in late January.
UFC on FOX 3 features four fights on the main card comprised of Pat Barry-Lavar Johnson, Alan Belcher-Rousimar Palhares, Josh Koscheck-Johny Hendricks, and headliners Jim Miller-Nate Diaz.

With Thiago Tavares off the card with an injury, "The Ultimate Fighter" Season 13 winner Tony Ferguson will now face TUF 12 finalist Michael Johnson in May.
Tony Ferguson faces further adjustments in training camp now that he’s moved on to his third prospective opponent for UFC on Fox 3.
Originally intended to face Dennis Hallman at the event, Ferguson has been preparing to take on Brazilian fighter Thiago Tavares since Hallman was forced to withdraw from the bout due to injury. Well, now Tavares has been injured and will be replaced by Michael Johnson.
A runner-up on the twelfth season of The Ultimate Fighter, Michael “The Menace” Johnson (10-6) has gone 2-2 in the UFC since debuting at the TUF 12 Finale in 2010. The Blackzilian team member has balanced out a unanimous decision defeat to Jonathan Brookins and a submission loss to Paul Sass with a TKO of Eddie Faaloloto and a unanimous decision over Shane Roller. He most recently appeared in action at UFC on Fox 2, earning the win over Roller.
Winner of The Ultimate Fighter 13, Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson (13-3) has gone undefeated in his three-fight run in the Octagon. The 28-year-old ran through Ramsey Nijem and Aaron Riley before taking a unanimous decision over Yves Edwards this past December at the TUF 14 Finale. He is unbeaten in six straight fights.
UFC on Fox 3 will take place at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey on May 5.
Jacob Volkmann and Paul Sass have a date for Memorial Day Weekend, as the two UFC lightweights will compete at UFC 146 on May 26 from Las Vegas.
News of the match-up was reported by the UFC.
Volkmann (14-2) is a three-time NCAA Division 1 All-American from the University of Minnesota. He has won five straight bouts inside the Octagon since a pair of defeats at the hands of Paulo Thiago and Martin Kampmann during his run at welterweight.
Comparably, Sass (12-0) is a perfect 2-0 in his brief UFC career including submission victories over Michael Johnson and Mark Holst. Of his dozen career wins, eleven have come via tap-out with a number involving his patented “Sassangle Choke”.
Though the card is still developing, UFC 146 is expected to feature a bout for the UFC heavyweight title between Junior dos Santos and Alistair Overeem.

The UFC revealed today that verbal agreements are in place for a lightweight tilt between the chronically unfunny Jacob Volkmann and England’s resident triangle master Paul Sass, with the fight targeted for UFC 146 this May.
31-year-old Jacob “Christmas” Volkmann (14-2) made his UFC debut in 2009 as a welterweight, losing that and one other contest in the division before dropping to lightweight. Since doing so, Volkmann has strung together five straight decision victories, including wins over the likes of Paul Kelly, Antonio McKee and Danny Castillo. His most recent performance resulted in a unanimous judges’ ruling in his favor over The Ultimate Fighter alum Efrain Escudero at UFC 141 in December.
England’s Paul “Sassangle” Sass (12-0) got his nickname and undefeated record for a reason: he’s secured seven of his twelve professional victories via triangle choke. Like Rousimar Palhares’ leg locks, you may see it coming, but there’s nothing you can do to stop it. The 23-year-old Team Kaobon prospect has only seen one of his professional bouts reach the final bell, the rest having all ended by submission. He most recently appeared in action this past October at UFC Live: Cruz vs. Johnson submitting a spirited Michael Johnson in the first round with a heel hook.
UFC 146 has yet to be officially announced by the UFC, but is expected to take place on May 26 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and to feature a main event between UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos and Alistair Overeem.
From now on, Michael Johnson is taking a new approach to fighting.
"I had good footwork because I was a running back," the lightweight told MMAjunkie.com Radio.
And following his win over Shane Roller on the
preliminary card of UFC on FOX 2, Johnson hopes to
charge into spring with a fight in late March or early April.

Lightweight Cody McKenzie has been forced off the
preliminary card of UFC on FOX 2 with an undisclosed injury.
Stepping in for the guillotine specialist is Shane Roller, who meets Michael Johnson at the FOX-televised
event, which takes place Jan. 28 at United Center in Chicago.
Sources close to the event today confirmed the shuffle to MMAjunkie.com.
The inaugural UFC on Fuel TV event continues to grow as the company has officially added to more bouts to the card. Aaron Simpson and Ronny Markes will do battle in the middleweight division while featherweights Jonathan Brookins and Rani Yahya will trade leather as well.
It’s not yet known whether or not these fights will take place on the main portion of the broadcast or the preliminary portion.
Simpson is currently riding a three fight win streak that has seen him take out Mario Miranda, Brad Tavares, and Eric Schafer. He’s only lost twice in his professional career to top middleweights Chris Leben and Mark Munoz in consecutive bouts back in 2010.
Markes made a successful UFC debut this past August, defeating highly-touted wrestler Karlos Vemola by unanimous decision. The victory upped his win streak to five and came after a win against former WEC middleweight champ Paulo Filho.
Brookins will look to bounce back following a loss to Erik Koch in his return to 145. Prior to the loss, Brookins won The Ultimate Fighter 12 lightweight tournament, defeating Michael Johnson in the finals.
Yahya will most likely be fighting for his job against Brookins as he’s been on the wrong side of the decision in three of his last four bouts, posting losses against Joseph Benavidez, Takeya Mizugaki, and Chad Mendes with just a lone win over former WEC featherweight title-holder Mike Brown.
UFC on Fuel TV 1 is scheduled for February 15 at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Nebraska. The night will be headlined by a welterweight bout between top contenders Jake Ellenberger and Diego Sanchez.

UFC on FOX 2 takes place Jan. 28 at United Center in Chicago. A light-heavyweight bout between former champ Rashad Evans and Phil Davis is expected to headline.
The Ultimate Fighter finalist is looking to collect another first round finish against unbeaten British submission specialist Paul Sass on Saturday night.
