Fans of mixed martial arts have three options for March 31, 2012. Events have been announced by Amazon Forest Combat, One FC 3 and WMMA. The Century Fighting Championship, featuring Matt Lee vs. Marcus Davis, that was originally scheduled for March 31 has been cancelled.
MMA fans can use the schedule for March 30, 2012, to find the latest mixed martial arts events. The BFC: Bellator Fighting Championships 63 and RFA 2: Yvel vs. Alexander fights have been announced. The following schedule contains a complete list of the fights.
Money is in this season. It's the new black. Money goes with every outfit this summer. If cash is trendy in 2012, then Vyacheslav Vasilevsky will be rocking the equivalent of orange nylon pants and Yaga shirts this year. That's because M-1 Global is suing Vasilevsky exactly 1,000 euros which is retroactive from March 25th 2011, the date M-1 Global believes the Bellator fighter started breaching his M-1 contract. According to MixFight.ru, M-1 Global is also taking 5,000 euros for every fight he took since the day of the contractual breach in 2011. Now I'm by far a successful mathematician. In fact, if Drug Wars wasn't installed on my TI-83 calculator, I would have never passed a single high school math class. I'm not even sure if that previous statement makes any sense. However, based on my primitive estimates, Vyacheslav Vasilevsky owes M-1 Global 388,000 euros as of today, March 22nd 2012. Here's a translated excerpt from MixFight.ru of the ordeal:
After winning the tournament Challenge XX December 10, 2010 knockout victory over Tomas Narkunom , Wasilewski refused to continue playing for the M-1. Numerous attempts to negotiations between management and the M-1 fighter and search for a solution have failed. Soon, the media was the news that the soldier signed a new contract and will play for one of the major American promotions of MMA-organizations. M-1 Global has decided to resort to legal means to protect their rights in accordance with the signed agreement. The court will pay Vasilevsky M-1 Global, the following penalties: from March 25, 2011, € 1,000 for each day of breach of contract, € 5,000 for each day performance of any promotional organization, in addition to the M-1 Global, as well as full reimburse the costs of the claimant. court's decision will set a precedent in the resolution of disputes between athletes and the organization.
Google Translate isn't 100% accurate (yet), but if your Russian is on point, feel free to read the untranslated story on MixFight.ru. Let's hope Vasilevsky wins the Bellator middleweight tournament this season so he can put a dent in the six figures M-1 Global is claiming from him.

Another week rolls by without a major UFC event, and another MMA-packed weekend cuddles up and fills the void.
Besides the usual offerings from Bellator and The Ultimate Fighter, we saw a slew of old-school PRIDE names this weekend. Guys like Aleks Emelianenko, Jeff Monson and John Alessio hit the stage, and even good old Gabe Ruediger got in on the action. Add in the NCAA wrestling championships and the latest visual evidence in the to-touch-gloves-or-not debate, and that's a pretty full plate we've got on the table. So if you missed any of it, or you just want to see Rashad Evans accuse Jon Jones of dressing up in drag, catch up with today's edition of the Morning Report.

FANPOST OF THE DAY
Today's Fanpost of the Day is an incredibly moving story from Bloody Elbow's hobbie: The Only Reason I'm Here Right Now
April 19, 2008
We're standing in the back of an impossibly long line stretching around the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec when I first hear it. It begins as murmurs, excited whispers, moving through the crowd like brushfire. The same three words on everybody's lips: G. S. P. I strain to peer beyond the crowd when I finally see it. Across the street, getting out of a black SUV with his entourage, is the man himself.
And of course, the crowd goes wild. And strangely (or not) I'm caught up in it as well, cheering for the Great Canadian Hope alongside all the other diehards who've lined up for hours just to see him stand on a scale. That's because today is the weigh-in for UFC 83, the first ever UFC event on Canadian soil. It takes a diehard MMA fan to line up for a simple weigh-in. Montreal apparently has thousands of them.
I realize now, looking back, that I was flanked in the moment by two of my heroes. The one across the street was larger than life, my hero only because every so often I watched him beat legitimate tough guys to a pulp on Pay-Per-View (this was back in 2008 when that still happened). Then there was the one standing next to me.

Day one of the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships.
Brock Lesnar, Phil Davis, Johny Hendricks -- these guys were all D-1 champs, and with the diverging paths of today's wrestling and MMA scenes, more and more blue-chip prospects are forgoing the mat for the more lucrative call of mixed martial arts.

The ten point must system and judging
"To me the ten point must is fine. I think definitions of the criteria need to be defined greater. I think that's where discrepancies come into play with it. The way you look at it, is you have striking, grappling, control, and then you have aggression. If you're saying striking is first, you're automatically giving an advantage to the striker, opposed to the grappler, who's category comes second.
To me, grappling and striking are one thing, as far as how they should be judged. They're different systems of combat, but they should be weighed equally. You have to judge each thing in the context of where it's being done. So if a guy is in his guard, and he's throwing elbows from the bottom, and he's damaging the guy, then that's effective striking. Be it that it's on the ground, and not on the feet, it's still effective striking. When you have a fight where a guy is completely smothering the other with grappling, he's taking the back, he's mounting, he's attacking the neck, he's attacking the arm, what's to say that that's not scoring greater than the striking? They all need to be looked at in the context of what they are.
Personally, I like the idea of who's trying to win the fight, like the Japanese style, which is focusing on finishing the fight, and scoring technique. By doing that, you kind of push the striking and the grappling context together, because you're now judging who's actually trying to finish the match, be it with striking or grappling. I believe damage should be a criteria, which it's not really at this point, but I believe it should be. Damage doesn't have to be acute damage of a cut or blood. You end up with fights where guys are getting a lot of body shots, or in positions where their head's not going to get banged around because it's buried in a guy's chest, or in his leg, and he's trying to take him down. You have to look at it positionally, what's happening as opposed to the traditional of ‘It's striking on the feet, and it's grappling on the ground.' You have to look at it as a whole. I think the ten point must is fine, I just think the definitions of the criteria need to be looked at a little bit, and adjusted."

Nick Diaz may be in the midst of the most bizarre five-month stretch in MMA history. Let's recap.
Diaz destroys B.J. Penn's face so hard, Penn retires. Diaz then enrages Georges St. Pierre so badly, Georges demands Diaz take Carlos Condit's title shot at UFC 143. Impressive stuff so far.
Diaz gets his fight, Carlos is sad, but one Canadian knee eruption later, he's back in the game. Both men hype the match as a "dogfight," but Condit works a counter-heavy gameplan into a divisive decision victory. An incredulous Diaz promptly retires.
After days of public fervor, Condit's camp asks to run it back. Only problem, Diaz sure does love his weed. Weeks go by and the story fades out until the Diaz camp unexpectedly lawyers-up, claiming Diaz didn't technically break any of the NSAC's rules. And now we're here, with the NSAC calling Diaz a liar, and the story very, very far from over.

FANPOST OF THE DAY
Today's Fanpost of the Day goes to BE's hobbie: Setting it Straight: "Rampage's" Case Against the UFC
So for your benefit folks, I've compiled a list of Quinton's grievances with the UFC. I know a lot of folks have expressed displeasure, disagreement or most commonly, confusion at some of Quinton's remarks. I'll admit, that was my first reaction as well.
Then I stayed up all night fasting and pounding Red Bulls, and the picture suddenly became a whole lot clearer. Also, I now like house music for some reason. So without further ado, here's Rampage's case against the UFC, as best as I can fathom it.
1) "Why are you giving me wrestlers that are gonna take me down and hump me?"
This is Quinton's latest complaint, and it makes perfect sense coming from him. He's a devout Christian, "God's Street Soldier" (yes, God has "Street Soldiers" - Zeus showed you can have all the fancy artillery and air support you want, but without boots on the ground, your religion's going the way of lawnmower worship) and thus has no inclination to get "humped" by another man.
But more then that, Jackson is angry with UFC matchmaker Joe Silva, for making "Rampage" fight all these lay and prayers! The fans want to see a fight, damnit! And besides, in a division featuring Jon Jones, Rashad Evans, Ryan Bader, Phil Davis, Dan Henderson, a Karate guy with solid wrestling of his own and "Shogun" freakin' Rua, it shouldn't be too hard to find a non-wrestler for ol' Quinton!
Oh, he's facing "Shogun" next? Splendid. That leads us right into grievance number two:

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight Sean McCorkle (16-2) has been booked to take on Brian Heden (17-10) as the featured bout for the debut event for the Worldwide Mixed Martial Arts (WMMA) promotion.
McCorkle, who is currently on a six-fight winning streak in which he stopped all of his opponents by submission, was cut from the UFC after going 1-2 and ending on back-to-back losses to Christian Morecraft and Stefan Struve. By contrast, Heden is just 2-3 in his past five bouts and has faced (and lost to) Brett Rogers, Dan Severn and Ron Humphrey during his career.
From today's release:
According to William McFarlane, President of WMMA, "The super heavyweight clash between McCorkle and Heden is sure to bring fireworks to El Paso as well as leave fans watching at home wanting more. By having two veterans of the sport at the top of this card benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project and the U.S. Army Wounded Warrior Program, it highlights our commitment to quality competition, respect for the sport, and promise to the local community and our real heroes."
"On March 31, 2012, my winning streak will be six," stated McCorkle. "There is no way I am losing this fight. I am walking out of the Don Haskins Center considered one of the top super heavyweights in the world, and if I have to dominate Brian to do it, so be it."
The pay-per-view (PPV) event goes down on March 31, 2012, LIVE from the Don Haskins Centre in El Paso, Texas.
The card also features a slew of former UFC, Strikeforce, Elite XC and King Of The Cage (KOTC) veterans to bolster the line-up, including Thomas Denny vs. Karo Parisyan, Lyle Beerbohm vs. Derrick Noble and Drew Fickett vs. Kevin Knabijan.
The undercard features an intriguing heavyweight tilt between Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10: Heavyweight contestant Darrill Schoonover vs. heavy-handed Paul Buentello. The cost of the show has not been disclosed but the PPV card will be available on the Armed Forces Network (AFN).
More details on this upcoming fight card as they become available.
Candor is a rare currency in professional sports. With the rise of the social media machine, honesty and personality are often considered taboo. In their place, athletes are taught to give little more than canned answers straight from the mouth of P.R. engines, and who can blame them when one slip-up has the potential to explode in an instant?
Rarely do you see an interviewee as heartbreakingly forthright as Chris Leben was on Monday. FANPOST OF THE DAY
Today's Fanpost of the Day goes to BE's Jack Slack: Igor Vovchanchyn's Striking
With no major UFC or Strikeforce event on the cards for a couple of weeks, those of us who are uninterested in The Ultimate Fighter will have to find other ways to entertain ourselves. One of my personal favorite activities at a time like this is to dust off the videos of legendary Ukrainian mixed martial artist, Igor Vovchanchyn. Igor's power was paralyzing, his style inspired tension until the match's conclusion, and his ability to leave bigger men in crumpled heaps gave birth to fear and admiration in equal measure.
One of the most fascinating features of Igor Vovchanchyn's life is that he was essentially a kickboxer when he entered mixed martial arts. Despite this being thought at the time to be a handicap, Igor went on an unparallaled winning streak against bigger, stronger, wrestlers and grapplers - becoming the single consistent exception to the "grappler beats striker" rule of early MMA.
Vovchanchyn is always given the credit he deserves as a terrifying power puncher, but he is rarely celebrated, as he should be, for his technical ability. Many observers simply see the wide swings and assume that Igor was a barn-burning brawler and no more. But brawlers had never had results knocking out grapplers - striking wide was an invitation for a clinch or takedown. Limited in the number of punches or combinations he threw, Igor had means of dragging grapplers into exchanges wherein he could knock them out nonethless. In this series we shall examine a few of Vovchanchyn's slickest tricks.

Time flies in MMA, and it's hard to believe that the biggest news story of March 12th, 2011 was that Zuffa, the parent company of the UFC, effectively bought off their largest competitor by purchasing Strikeforce. UFC president Dana White announced the deal to MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani, and the MMA blogosphere blew up with speculation about what it meant. Dana created a catchphrase that day, "business as usual", which people still dig out of mothballs to throw in Whte's face whenever Strikeforce doesn't live up to their expectations. So what has happened over the last year since the purchase? Let's take a trip down memory lane.
March 12th, 2011 - The announcement. While the exact numbers weren't confirmed, the purchase price was around 40 million dollars with some of that going to debt repayment. Scott Coker's partner, Silicon Valley Sports and Entertainment, was focused on bringing another pro sports team to San Jose and wanted out of the MMA business. Coker stayed on as GM of Strikeforce, but was now a Zuffa employee. I wrote an angry article about it over at HKL.
April 1st - The first SF card under Zuffa ownership went down in Stockton. It was a Challengers card.
April 8th - Strikeforce GM Scott Coker thought the organization would have it's first pay-per-view event by July.
April 9th - The first major Strikeforce card under Zuffa saw Nick Diaz defend his Strikeforce welterweight title against Paul Daley in one of the best fights of 2011. Coker talked about Strikeforce-UFC crossover fights "within a year".
May 18th - Zuffa completed their takeover and laid off most Strikeforce employees, putting former WEC employees in charge of the company.
June 1st - Nick Diaz blows "business as usual" out of the water and moves over to the UFC to challenge Georges St. Pierre for the UFC welterweight title. Obviously, this still hasn't happened yet.
June 9th - Diaz officially vacates his Strikeforce welterweight title. To date, it remains vacant.
June 18th - The semi-finals of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix began, with Alistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum competing in a dull bout that Overeem won.
July 30th - Fedor Emelianenko vs. Dan Henderson headlined a Strikeforce event in suburban Chicago. Henderson won. In addition, Alistair Overeem was released by the organization after apparently refusing to accept a booking due to injuries. Within days, he was snapped up by the UFC.
August 4th - Emelianenko was released by Strikeforce.
August 12th - Ronda Rousey made her Strikeforce debut.
September 10th - Luke Rockhold won the Strikeforce middleweight title from Ronaldo Souza. Josh Barnett and Daniel Cormier (Overeem's replacement) advanced to the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix finals.
September 19th - Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Dan Henderson signs with the UFC and vacates his belt. The belt is still vacant as of today.
October 13th - Ken Hershman leaves Showtime, the channel that Strikeforce is aired on. Showtime held an option to renew Strikeforce's TV contract in early 2012 at the time, and Hershman's departure was viewed by some as the final nail in the coffin for Strikeforce on the network.
November 18th - Strikeforce holds their last Challengers card to date.
December 15th - Strikeforce and Showtime officially come to an agreement to extend their contract until 2014. Dana White announces that the SF heavyweight division will move over the UFC, barring the GP Final and "one more fight" for the winner.
January 6th, 2012 - Women's 145 pound champion Cristiane Santos tests positive for anabolic steroids.
January 7th - Cyborg is stripped of her title, and her division is put on hold. This leaves three of the six Strikeforce championships vacant.
February 21st - Nate Marquardt signs with Strikeforce.
March 3rd - Ronda Rousey defeats Miesha Tate for the SF Women's 135 pound title.
March 12th - Business as usual? I think not.
Indulge me in a rant real quick. I understand Joe Warren isn't exactly the most popular fighter out there right now, but what exactly was going through Jeff Malott's head as he watched Pat Curran bomb on a 35-year-old man with roughly 436 unanswered shots on Friday night? A referee's primary role is to ensure the safety of both fighters. Malott failed. I know it's cliché to grumble about the refing and judging in MMA, but this issue is getting out-of-hand.
Guys like Nick Diaz and Gene LeBell have called for officials to carry a background in combat sports and undergo extensive, mandatory martial arts training in order to grasp the severity of given situations. That sounds great in theory, but a quick Google search reveals Malott to have an extensive background in sambo and even a few professional fights under his belt. So what then?
This is a murky issue and no one seems to have the right answer, but when it comes down to it, as a former fighter Malott failed Warren immensely by not understanding how unhealthy it is for a human skull to be bludgeoned unconscious three different times in a span of thirty seconds.

FANPOST OF THE DAY
Today's Fanpost of the Day goes to BE's Dangalvan: Fighters the UFC Should Re-hire (Not Tim Sylvia)
There are plenty of other former UFC employees that deserve another shot in the big dance over "The Maine-iac". These fighters have either put together an astounding resume after being cut or simply didn't deserve the axe in the first place. If Tim Sylvia really wants to fight in the UFC again then he should probably imitate what these six fighters are doing.
Patrick Cote (16-7) - Middleweight
After a knee injury at UFC 90 in a Middleweight Championship match against Anderson Silva set Patrick Cote back a year and the half, he returned to the octagon not looking like the same fighter that had strung together a five fight win streak in route to a championship shot. Two consecutive losses later, and the former TUF Season 4 Runner-up was left without a job in the UFC.
After his release, Cote has won three fights in decisive fashion with his most impressive victories being over Kalib Starnes and Todd Brown. His next fight is against MMA veteran Gustavo Machida at the end of the month, and a win there should impress Joe Silva enough to let "The Predator" back in the UFC.

'A soothsayer bids you beware the Ides of March'; or, in this case, a Russian player-agent is saying that come March 15, the NHL might have a new reason to beware the Nashville Predators.
Pavel Lysenkov of SovSport called Alex Radulov's Russian agent Yuri Nikolaev to speak about the end of his Salavat Yulaev Ufa season and possible return to the NHL with Nashville, with whom he has one more year on his contract.
"I don't want to comment about anything." Nikolaev told Lysenkov right after he picked up the phone.
Is Alexander going to Nashville?
"I won't say. I will only note that this issue must be resolved with Salavat Yulaev. Without a mutual agreement nothing is going to happen. This is because officially KHL contracts expire on April 30.
"Don't try to get anything out of me. Let's agree to this: I will have an understanding of the situation on March 15. We have to see what's going on with Radulov's knee... There are a lot of questions, including some about his health."
This week was kind of strange. And the next five weeks are probably going to be stranger. But we're spoiled as MMA fans now. A month-and-a-half between major events used to be nothing.
Besides, mixed martial arts has reached the point where even if the schedule looks empty, it isn't really. Case in point: between the newly revamped "The Ultimate Fighter" and a brand new season of the promotion that just brought us this and this and THIS (and this and this), Friday nights are about to become the new Saturday. So sit back and get ready for tonight's fights with the Morning Report.

FANPOST OF THE DAY
Today's Fanpost of the Day goes to BE's Dangalvan: 10 Flyweights That the UFC Should Sign
Mamoru Yamaguchi (26-6-3)
Yamaguchi doesn't just make this list based on his awesome Afro, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't help. He is dripping with charisma that could garner him a cult-like audience. Coming off a loss to Jussier da Silva in August, Yamaguchi should be hungry for a win as he has never lost back-to-back fights in his career. Yamaguchi is a dangerous flyweight that prefers to strike where he is able to showcase his powerful looping hooks.
Dustin Ortiz (8-1)
Continuing the trend of fighters with fantastic hair, Dustin Ortiz has potential to really be a top fighter in the flyweight division. Still in the early part of his career, Ortiz has been impressive recently with a win over Josh Rave (18-9). Ortiz is one of the most fun fighters to watch as he is hyper-aggressive and is relentless with the pressure he forces on his opponents.

Ten days. That's how long the UFC lightweight division was open for business before word came down for the third straight title rematch since April 10, 2010.
Now, we've all heard the arguments ad nauseum. It's only fair. Frankie Edgar had to do it twice. And let's be honest, we all kind of expected this. Never mind that just four men have fought for the 155-pound title in the last 23 months.
So for now, lets try to forget how groovy the storylines for Henderson-Pettis II would have been. Or how fascinating the bizarre personality clash of Henderson-Diaz would be. Unless someone randomly gets popped for weed, it is what it is. Henderson-Edgar II will be entertaining, and afterward we can be done with this endless circle of rematches -- unless, of course, Frankie takes a narrow split decision. Then you can bet we'll be well on our way to trilogy town. So check out all the details of Henderson-Edgar II, plus everything else MMA has to offer with the Morning Report.

FANPOST OF THE DAY
Today's Fanpost of the Day goes to BE's SSreporters: UFC Fight Statistics For 1st Quarter of 2012
Easy numbers to digest. 62.5% of this year's finishes have come in the opening round, 25% in the 2nd, and only 12.5% in the 3rd. Obviously of the 5 to come in the final round, two have come in the last couple of weeks, with Tim Boetsch's comeback KO vs. Yushin Okami and Martin Kampmann's dramatic guillotine choke over Thiago Alves. Only four fights have been five-rounders and three of them went the distance, and since the switch to five-round non-title main events, not a single one has seen a finish past the 3rd round.
This (next) table breaks down fight results for every weight class thus far, including the recently added flyweight division from last Friday's UFC on FX 2 card.

Combat sports fans are privy to six major televised mixed martial arts (MMA) events over the next month and a half, starting on Friday, March 9 and ending on Friday, April 13.
And not one of them belongs to Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
That may come as a bit of a surprise, considering the aggressive campaign the world's largest fight promotion has mapped out for 2012, between its pay-per-view (PPV) schedule and FOX network deals. In fact, the only original content between now and UFC on FUEL TV 2 on April 14 is the debut of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 15 this Friday night.
Opportunity, she is a' knocking.

Who could have guessed the debut of a new UFC division would be overshadowed by a women's title fight, in Strikeforce, no less.
But it was, and at least for now, the landscape of mixed martial arts appears to have evolved dramatically. Ronda Rousey's gruesome victory over Miesha Tate was a performance that captivated the MMA community unlike any women's match since 2009, and now "Rowdy" Ronda has become what Gina Carano was supposed to be.

FANPOST OF THE DAY
Today's Fanpost of the Day goes to BE's fightbot: 5 reasons Tate/Rousey was a perfect fight
1. It didn't kill the tension with Tate
After the fight you could see Mauro fishing for the 'It was all for marketing' line from Ronda. I'm glad she didn't oblige him. Before the fight I wrote that I didn't want Ronda to kill the tension between her and Miesha should she win, and why that was so important. She didn't disappoint. She has great storytelling instincts. The shortline is that by not saying it was all for show/hype/marketing, it doesn't kill the tension between them. Which is good because Tate is bound to get a rematch one day. And if Ronda had said it was all for show after the first fight, it'd be a tough sell to get us amped for the rematch.
But this way there's still unfinished business, there's still a lot of issues between them that can make for a great story in the inevitable rematch.
She's gonna catch a lot of flack for it from some people, but I feel those people are shortsighted. It's not like she rubbed Miesha's face in it (well within her right to do), she just refused to apologize for her actions. Own that s***.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) officials today announced "The Ultimate Fighter Live: The Preview," a 30-minute special airing TONIGHT (March 1, 2012) at 11:30 p.m. ET on FUEL TV, featuring a sneak peek at the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 15.
TUF 15, which premiers LIVE on March 9 via the FX Channel, will feature 32 lightweight contestants vying for the coveted "six-figure contract" under the tutelage of bantamweight coaches (and division rivals) Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber.
From UFC President Dana White:
"What we are doing this season with ‘The Ultimate Fighter Live' - it's never been done with television, with sports, with anything. Basically, the reality portions of the show that you're going to see will have been shot in the last two days, so everything is real time. The most incredible part of all this is that these fights are live, every Friday night. This is revolutionary television. The Ultimate Fighter' has become so popular because, in my opinion, it's the most relevant reality show on television. It's not some reality show where you see a bunch of weirdo's on a show for a few weeks and then it's over and you never see them again. These kids are coming in and competing to try and get into the UFC and hopefully become a world champion someday."
White will co-host tonight's preview show alongside UFC commentator Jon Anik. Also getting in on the action are Cruz and Faber, who will square off for "The Dominator's" title at UFC 148 on July 7, 2012, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
But the longtime rivals aren't doing anything in "Sin City" until they satisfy their coaching duties on TUF 15, beginning with the two-hour season premiere on March 9 and then one hour every Friday night (at 10 p.m. ET) for the following 13 weeks up until the June 1 live finale.

Former Strikeforce middleweight champion Ronaldo Souza has a new opponent for Strikeforce “Tate vs. Rousey,” as Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker announced Wednesday that International Fight League veteran Bristol Marunde has agreed to face “Jacare” at the March 3 event.
Strikeforce bantamweight champ Miesha Tate has no doubts that she is a fighter, though not simply because she draws a paycheck as a professional Mixed Martial Artist. Tate has weathered numerous storms inside the cage, coming out on top in twelve of her fourteen fights. However, she isn’t so sure about the heart of her upcoming opponent, unbeaten Olympic judoka Ronda Rousey.
Tate questioned Rousey’s fortitude in a recent blog entry where she made it clear she plans to test “Rowdy” Ronda’s will when they meet on March 3 in Columbus, Ohio.
“My March 3 challenger and opponent, Ronda Rousey, has never faced this type of make or break moment during her 4-0 mixed martial arts career,” Tate wrote on Rousey’s experience. “Yes, she was very accomplished as a judo player, winning a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics, but she has yet to taste her own blood in a grueling MMA bout. She’s yet to prove she can battle back from any adversity at all. Questions have never been asked of her.”
“All four of her MMA wins so far have arrived inside the first minute, and she has yet to face anybody that has so much as tested her, let alone come close to disfiguring her face and beating her,” Tate continued, her venom spilling over onto the page. “She’s been carefully matched, she’s been pampered and she’s been protected. The truth is, going into this world title fight with me, Ronda is still to discover whether she is even a real fighter.”
In closing, “Takedown” Tate pulled no punches in saying she expects to introduce Rousey to the type of adversity she’s already overcome inside the cage.
“On March 3rd, the night we meet for my Strikeforce world bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey will learn just how hard and horrible the sport of mixed martial arts can be. I will take great pleasure in dragging her into deep waters for the first time in her life and then drowning her there.”
Strikeforce Releases Preview for Rousey vs. Tate
Fans can catch Rousey-Tate on Showtime along with a number of other featured bouts including KJ Noons vs. Josh Thomson and Ronaldo Souza vs. Derek Brunson.

A total of fifteen fighters have received some kind of mandatory vacation including main event winner and new interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit.
Condit, who defeated Nick Diaz via Unanimous Decision, is suspended until early March with no contact for a few weeks due to a laceration on his right cheek.
Word of his condition was released on Monday by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
Both co-headliners Fabricio Werdum and Roy Nelson were hit with suspension, with Nelson’s taking him out until April.
Clifford Starks, Ed Herman, Edwin Figueroa, Matt Riddle, Henry Martinez, and Michael Kuiper are all on the shelf until August, but could be cleared earlier by a doctor.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) today issued its list of medical suspensions for UFC 143: "Diaz vs. Condit," which took place on Sat., Feb. 4, 2012, from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
With several violent bouts on the under card, as well as Fabricio Werdum and Roy Nelson kicking the crap out of each other for 15 minutes on the pay-per-view (PPV) portion of the mixed martial arts (MMA) event, there were quite a few fighters who were flagged for follow up visits to their doctors.
Cheif among them is Werdum, who must be cleared by a physician for a leg injury -- one that most likely occurred kneeing Nelson in the face repeatedly -- or he won't be allowed to return until Aug. 3, 2012.
And he's the guy who won.
Ed Herman, Clifford Starks, Matt Riddle, Henry Martinez, Michael Kuiper and even poor Edwin Figueroa -- who got his balls smashed by Alex Caceres in their bantamweight bout -- also got slapped with six-month suspensions. Nick Diaz, who chased Carlos Condit for essentially 25 minutes, unsurprisingly, did not make an appearance on the final post-fight trauma report.
Here is the complete list of UFC 143 injuries and their medical instructions:
Carlos Condit -- Suspended until March 6, 2012, and no contact until Feb. 26, 2012, because of a right cheek lacerationFabricio Werdum -- Suspended until Aug. 3, 2012, because of a right quadriceps contusion; Minimum suspension until March 6, 2012, and no contact until Feb. 26, 2012, if he is cleared to return sooner.Roy Nelson -- Suspended and no contact until April 5, 2012, because of a forehead lacerationMike Pierce -- Suspended until March 6, 2012, and no contact until Feb. 26, 2012, because of a right eye lacerationScott Jorgensen -- Suspended until March 6, 2012, and no contact until Feb. 26, 2012Ed Herman -- Suspended until Aug. 3, 2012, because of potential injuries to both hands; Minimum suspension until March 6, 2012, and no contact until Feb. 26, 2012, if he is cleared to return sooner.Clifford Starks -- Suspended until Aug. 3, 2012, because of potential left hand injury to his fourth digitMax Holloway -- Suspended until Feb. 26, 2012, and no contact until Feb. 19, 2012, because of a right eye contusionMatt Riddle -- Suspended until Aug. 3, 2012, because of a broken right index finger; Minimum suspension until March 21, 2012, and no contact until March 6, 2012, because of a left eye laceration.Henry Martinez -- Suspended until Aug. 3, 2012, because of a potential right foot injury; Minimum suspension until March 21, 2012, and no contact until March 6, 2012, because of a left nasal laceration.Alex Caceres -- Suspended until March 6, 2012, and no contact until Feb. 26, 2012Edwin Figueroa -- Suspended until Aug. 3, 2012, because of a groin injury; Minimum suspension until March 6, 2012, and no contact until Feb. 26, 2012, if he is cleared to return sooner.Chris Cope -- Suspended until April 5, 2012, and no contact until March 21, 2012Michael Kuiper -- Suspended until Aug. 3, 2012, because of potential left foot injury; Minimum suspension until March 6, 2012, and no contact until Feb. 26, 2012, if he is cleared to return sooner.Dan Stittgen -- Suspended until March 21, 2012, and no contact until March 6, 2012
Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases.

Seven fighters were suspended for six months unless their injuries are cleared sooner by doctors, including co-main event winner Fabricio Werdum and main card winner Ed Herman.

M-1 Global has changed the venue of its March 16 fight card, moving it from a yet-to-be determined location in the United States to St. Petersburg, Russia.
This March, former Strikeforce middleweight champ Ronaldo Souza will take the first step of his journey back towards the title he lost to Luke Rockhold when he sees action in Columbus, Ohio against unbeaten finisher Derek Brunson. Though not officially announced by the organization, Brunson took to Twitter on Thursday night to reveal he’d been booked to battle the widely respected submission specialist.
Brunson currently holds a 9-0 mark including seven opening round stoppages and a fairly even split between TKOs/tap-outs. The 28-year old, who spends much of his time training with Greg Jackson’s camp in New Mexico, last fought in November where he outpointed Nate James at Strikeforce Challengers 20.
In “Jacare” Brunson will face the stiffest test of his career, a 14-3 BJJ blackbelt with past victories over Matt Lindland, Jason Miller, Robbie Lawler, and Tim Kennedy. The March 3 fight will come nearly six months to the day Souza dropped his belt to Rockhold after a hotly contested five round affair.
Souza Retires from BJJ Competitions to Focus 100% on MMA
Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Tate is headlined by Miesha Tate’s defense of her bantamweight belt against Olympic judoka Ronda Rousey with other match-ups including Paul Daley vs. Kazuo Misaki, Gegard Mousasi vs. Mike Kyle, and KJ Noons vs. Josh Thomson.

NCAA wrestling champ Bubba Jenkins and heavyweight “Bad Man” Dave Huckaba will make their second appearances at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino come March.
The March 3 Strikeforce card continues to grow as the event draws closer. Already stacked top to bottom, the lineup has added a lightweight bout between Ryan Couture and Conor Heun sure to get fans that much more excited for the upcoming event. The fight will likely take place on the preliminary portion of the card, scheduled to air on ShowtimeExtreme prior to the main card on Showtime.
After suffering the first loss of his professional career in June 2011 to Matt Ricehouse, Couture rebounded to pick up a majority decision win over Maka Watson this past September. The son of MMA legend Randy Couture, Ryan is 3-1 as a pro with two of his three victories coming by way of submission.
Couture will have his toughest fight to date in March when he meets Heun, a 32-year-old veteran with thirteen bouts under his belt. Following back-to-back decision losses to Jorge Gurgel and K.J. Noons, Heun rebounded in June to defeat Magno Almeida by unanimous decision. Despite the victory, “Hurricane” suffered a dislocated arm in the bout which has kept him out of action since his win.
News of the bout was first reported by MMAFighting.com.
Scheduled for March 3 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, Strikeforce: Tate vs. Rousey will be headlined by a title-fight between 135- pound champ Miesha Tate, looking to make the first defense of her strap, against the undefeated top contender Ronda Rousey. Also on the card is a light heavyweight title eliminator bout bnetween Gegard Mousasi and Mike Kyle.

Gegard Mousasi and Mike Kyle will attempt to make Strikeforce's vacant light heavyweight title picture clearer when they meet March 3 in Columbus, Ohio.
Former Strikeforce light heavyweight titleholder Gegard Mousasi and UFC veteran Mike Kyle are set to square off as part of Strikeforce’s March 3 event in Columbus, Ohio.
Mike Kyle vs. Gegard Mousasi?
According to "MAK's" official Twitter account, he's been paired off with "The Dreamcatcher" for the Strikeforce: "Tate vs. Rousey" Showtime-televised event on March 3, 2012, from the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
it's on march 3 Ohio baby. Mak Kyle and mossasi beast mode gerrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!
Strikeforce has yet to confirm the potential match-up.
With Muhammed Lawal on the shelf following a positive test for steroids, every light heavyweight fight under the Strikeforce banner can now be considered a title eliminator.
That's because the promotion's 205-pound roster is as thin as it has ever been, especially now that Dan Henderson abandoned ship for the shores of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) late last year.
In addition, Lorenz Larkin's stock has dropped following his loss to "King Mo" (which may be reversed to a "no contest" pending Lawal's appeal) and Ovince St. Preux was recently defeated by Mousasi.
Could one of these two men become the next Strikeforce light heavyweight champion? Or will Raphael Cavalcante have something to say about that?
The Showtime-televised event will feature newly-minted women's champion Miesha Tate putting her 135-pound title on the line against undefeated Judo specialist Ronda Rousey.
Other match-ups booked for "The Discovery City" include K.J. Noons vs. Josh Thomson, former women's champion Sarah Kaufman vs. Alexis Davis and Paul Daley vs. Kazuo Misaki.

As with with past WEC and Strikeforce events, official fighter weigh-ins for March's "Strikeforce: Tate vs. Rousey" event will coincide with the Arnold Sports Festival in Ohio.
The weigh-ins take place March 2 at Hall C in the Greater Columbus Convention Center beginning at 5 p.m. ET (2 p.m. PT).
The following day's Showtime- and Showtime Extreme-televised event takes place at nearby Nationwide Arena.

"Even though he's coming off a loss, he's a very dangerous opponent," Curran said of Warren. "He is a very strong wrestler who's going to try to close the distance and work the clinch against me. I'm looking forward to a great fight."
After a one-fight stint at Bantamweight, Joe Warren is back defending his Bellator Featherweight championship. Winner of his last five Featherweight fights, the 35-year-old Denver product has the experience and the cage savvy to bust up Curran's homecoming party.
"The Midwest is known for great fighters and great fight fans," Bellator Chairman & CEO Bjorn Rebney said. "To be hosting an event of this magnitude in our backyard is like Christmas morning; plus you get to see Chicagoland's own, rising superstar Pat Curran vie for the World Title against one of the toughest fighters in all of MMA - Joe Warren. As a diehard MMA fan, I can't wait for March 9th to get here at Horseshoe."
Also on this big night in Hammond, the Season 6 Featherweight Tournament kicks off as Season 5 finalist Marlon Sandro takes on Roberto Vargas. A member of the renowned Team Nova Uniao, the 19-3 Sandro is widely regarded as one of the top featherweights in the world. With seven of his 19 wins coming via KO/TKO and three by submission, don't blink when the dangerous Brazilian enters the Bellator cage. A former wrestler at Cal-State Bakersfield, Vargas has used his wrestling pedigree and parlayed that success into a 12-1 mixed martial arts record with three knockouts and four submissions.
Born in Thailand and raised in England, the UK's best featherweight Ronnie Mann has the talent and drive to make a deep run in this season's tournament. A tenacious standup fighter with 10 submission victories on his record, the 20-4 fighter has possibly his toughest test to date when he takes on dangerous veteran Wagnney Fabiano. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and former WEC fighter holds an impressive 14-3 record and adds another true contender to this season's featherweight tournament.
Top featherweight prospect Alexandre "PoPo" Bezerra enters his first Bellator tournament and will face stiff competition in his quarterfinal matchup as the 12-1 submission ace battles fellow Brazilian Genair da Silva. "Junior PDQ" is coming off an impressive victory at Bellator 52, and will be looking to carry that momentum into the tournament on March 9
Daniel Straus returns to the Bellator cage after nearly a year. Straus made a dominant run through the Season 4 Featherweight Tournament, only being stopped by eventual tournament Champion Patricio Pitbull in the finals. When the Ohio native steps into the cage on March 9, it will be against the undefeated Jeremy Spoon, who brings a spotless 12-0 record to the cage, including eight submission victories.

Strikeforce returns March 3 to Columbus, Ohio, with a women's bantamweight title fight – and grudge match – between Miesha Tate and unbeaten Ronda Rousey.
Bellator Featherweight Champion Joe Warren will defend his title against No. 1 contender Pat Curran on Friday, March 9, in Hammond, IN, according to the Chicago Tribune's Matt Erickson. The fight will take place in Bellator's second event of their sixth season at The Venue at Horseshoe Casino.
Warren (7-2) has yet to defend the title he won in a comeback victory over Joe Soto in September 2010. Since then, he picked up a controversial split decision over Marcos Galvao in a catchweight fight and was knocked out in 64 seconds by Alexis Vila in his bantamweight tournament debut last September.
Curran (16-4) won Bellator's most recent 145-pound tournament, defeating Marlon Sandro by second round KO in August. It was his second tournament victory for the 24-year-old as he won their 2010 lightweight tournament, dropping a competitive unanimous decision to then-champion Eddie Alvarez. He is the cousin of UFC/WEC veteran Jeff Curran.
Bellator's next season of action kicks off on Friday, March 2, on MTV2.
UFC 145 won’t be taking place on March 24 in Montreal, Canada, as the UFC has postponed the event due to “complications in scheduling and a desire to deliver a ‘championship card’,” The Canadian Press reports.
Most of the fights already booked for March 24 will be shifted to an April 20 event in Atlanta, which was announced last week as UFC 146, but may be renamed UFC 145.
The scheduled matchups include Rory MacDonald vs. Che Mills, Travis Browne vs. Chad Griggs, Matt Wiman vs. Mark Bocek, Brendan Schaub vs. Ben Rothwell, Mark Hominick vs. Eddie Yagin, Mac Danzig vs. Efrain Escudero, and Anthony Njokuani vs. John Makdessi.

The Ultimate Fighting Championships's spring schedule is undergoing a
massive makeover, and a planned March 24 trip to Montreal has been wiped
from the calendar.
MMAjunkie.com today confirmed the change of plans with UFC president Dana White.
"We're still doing Montreal," White said. "We're just not going to do it when we were originally planning to."
Due to a schedule change, the UFC will not hold an event in Montreal this March as initially announced. "We're looking at other dates for Montreal and want to be back there as soon as we possibly can," said Tom Wright, the Director of Operations for Zuffa in Canada.UFC matchmakers are working to place the bouts that had been slated for the Montreal event on other fight cards. The 22-year-old Canadian MacDonald has wowed in his four UFC outings but was forced to withdraw from UFC 140 in Toronto due to injury. The UK's Mills made an impressive UFC debut in November at UFC 138, with a 40-second kickboxing TKO of opponent.
British brawler Paul Daley is set to make his way back to Strikeforce after a little less than a year away from the promotion when he fights in March as part of the organization’s show in Columbus, Ohio. Daley was last seen under the Strikeforce banner in July 2011 where he lost a decision to undefeated wrestler Tyron Woodley.
According to an official announcement the 29-11-2 welterweight will face PRIDE/SRC veteran Kazuo Misaki on a lineup already set to feature KJ Noons vs. Josh Thomson and Miesha Tate vs. Ronda Rousey.
Dana White Says Daley Could Eventually be Welcomed Back to the UFC
Misaki, who holds an overall record of 24-11-2 with fifteen finishes, is 1-0 in Strikeforce courtesy of a 2008 TKO over Joe Riggs but hasn’t been seen inside the company’s cage since. He is currently on a two-fight winning streak with both victories coming by way of a strike-based stoppage.
Similarly, Daley has also won back-to-back bouts with his most recent rumble resulting in an outpointing of Luigi Fioravanti. The bulk of his success has been the result of his notoriously powerful stand-up and is highlighted by past TKOs over Duane Ludwig and Martin Kampmann.
Strikeforce also revealed bantamweight contender Sarah Kaufman will face Alexis Davis in other main card action at the March 3 event.

Sarah Kaufman will be fighting on the same night as current Strikeforce bantamweight champ Miesha Tate, but she won’t be fighting for the belt that she previously held or many felt she was in line to compete for again. Instead the former title-holder will take on Alexis Davis in a fight likely to determine the next contender to the division’s strap. The bout takes place at the March 3 Strikeforce event and will be part of the night’s main card.
Strikeforce officials confirmed the bout last night during the Showtime airing of Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine.
After losing the first bout of her professional career and her Strikeforce title to Marloes Coenen, Kaufman has bounced back with two straight victories over Megumi Yabushita and Liz Carmouche. The Canada native won the first 12 fights of her career, including victories over current champion Tate, Shayna Baszler, and Roxanne Modafferi. She also holds a 2007 TKO win over Davis, who she rematches in March.
Davis will not only be looking to add to her three fight win streak, but she’ll also try to avenge that 2007 loss, which was her first bout as a pro, when she meets Kaufman in the Strikeforce cage. Davis has knocked off Tonya Evinger, Julie Kedzie, and Amanda Nunes during her winning streak.
The March 3 Strikeforce event takes place at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. Also on the card is a lightweight showdown between former champion Josh Thomson and K.J. Noons.
Strikeforce has made official its return to Columbus for March 3. Aside from the Miesha Tate-Ronda Rousey fight, Paul Daley, KJ Noons and Sarah Kaufan will fight.
It's official: Miesha Tate will defend her Strikeforce bantamweight title against Ronda Rousey in March. But Tate thinks Sarah Kaufman deserves the first shot.
It appears Paul Daley’s time under the Zuffa banner has not in fact ended as some felt may have been the case when “Semtex” took two fights outside of Strikeforce after back-to-back losses in the organization. Instead, according to Strikeforce officials, the 28-year old British brawler will face seasoned competitor Kazuo Misaki on March 3 as part of a lineup in Columbus, Ohio featuring Miesha Tate-Ronda Rousey and the conclusion of the company’s heavyweight Grand Prix.
The bout will mark Misaki’s first in Strikeforce in more than three years with his only bout in the promotion resulting in a September 2008 TKO over Joe Riggs. The 24-11-2 Misaki is currently on a two-fight winning streak and last fought in April where he stopped Akira Shoji with strikes in the second round of their bout.
Daley has also emerged with his hand raised the last two times he’s fought though both came via decision, uncharacteristic for the 29-11-2 striker who has 20 TKOs to his credit. Among his notable past wins are instances of success against Jorge Masvidal, Jordan Radev, Duane Ludwig, and Martin Kampmann.
The March 3 event is scheduled to take place as part of the annual Arnold Sports Festival. Tate vs. Rousey will be for Tate’s bantamweight championship.

A pivotal lightweight match is likely headed to a yet-unannounced Strikeforce event planned for March.
Sources close to the event today told MMAjunkie.com that K.J. Noons and Josh Thomson have verbally agreed to meet.
As MMAjunkie.com first reported, "Strikeforce Grand Prix Final: Barnett vs. Cormier" takes place March 3 at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The event airs live on Showtime with prelims on Showtime Extreme.
Former Ultimate Fighter winner Mac Danzig will apparently return to the cage in Montreal on March 24th, and it looks like he'll be facing off with a fellow TUF winner. Danzig tweeted about the proposed fight this afternoon:
@macdanzigmmaMac Danzig Just signed to fight in March... Opponent is tough as hell, but they all are...Jan 06 via webFavoriteRetweetReply
@macdanzigmmaMac Danzig Efrain Escuerdo March 24th MontrealJan 06 via webFavoriteRetweetReply
Danzig coming off a hard-fought loss to Matt Wiman in their rematch at UFC on Versus 6 in October. Escudero came up short last weekend against Jacob Volkmann at UFC 141, but had him in major danger at the end of the fight and earned another shot in his second stint with the organization. This makes just the sixth time that two Ultimate Fighter winners have faced off. Danzig was involved in the most recent TUF winner battle as well when he knocked out Joe Stevenson at UFC 124.
SBN coverage of UFC 145
The most discussed women's MMA match since Gina Carano vs. Cristiane Santos has been booked for Strikeforce's March event in Columbus, OH, as 135-pound champion Miesha Tate will defend against Ronda Rousey. MMA Weekly reported the news Wednesday night, but there have been no confirmations from either side as of this writing.
Rousey (4-0) has risen to prominence by finishing all of her opponents by armbar in less than three minutes combined. The 2008 Olympic bronze medalist in judo asked for the Tate fight following her 39 second victory over Julia Budd in November, setting off a slew of social medial discussion on whether Rousey was ready and the state of women's MMA.
Tate (12-2) has won six in a row, but hasn't fought since defeating Marloes Coenen by fourth round submission in July 2011. It was expected at one point that Tate would defend her title against former champion Sarah Kaufman, but that fight never materialized. Kaufman (14-1) hasn't competed since winning a decision over Liz Carmouche in July.
On Twitter Wednesday night, Rousey said, "I haven't signed anything nothing is official everybody calm down" Wednesday while Tate alluded to the fight in some conversations with fans without any confirmation. The March event is expected to be on Saturday, March 3rd -- the same night as the Strikeforce Grand Prix Finals. With Strikeforce set to return to action this Saturday, a formal announcement could come this week.

Two of the lightweight division’s finest will collide at UFC 145, as Clay Guida locks horns with former title challenger Gray Maynard at the March 24 event in Montreal.
Competitors became companions, the youngest UFC champion in history was created while Strikeforce got one of their oldest and a California Kid made his presence felt in the Octagon. Let's look back at March 2011, one of the busiest and most important months in recent MMA history.
March 2011 - The Most Important Business Month Ever?
Most MMA fans will remember where they were when they got the news that Zuffa had purchased Strikeforce, putting the UFC's top competitor under their control. News broke unusually on a random Saturday afternoon, done via a video with MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani. We all had more questions than answers. Would the UFC and Strikeforce immediately merge? What about the champions? Why did they buy them? Was this good for the industry? As the year would play out, we got our answers but still have a lot of questions as we cross into 2012.
But in many circles, that wasn't even the biggest story of the year. That would come later on in the year.
****
Just a short time after the UFC/Strikeforce news, the UFC saw one of its power players complete his journey as Jon Jones became the youngest champion in UFC history with a dominant TKO victory over Mauricio "Shogun" Rua at UFC 128. Weeks after he had earned the shot due to a win over Ryan Bader and an injury to top contender Rashad Evans, Jones found himself with a shiny belt and an aura of invincibility.
Following the win, Dana White decreed that Jones would face Evans next and after hearing his friend say he would fight him, Evans was more than willing to step in against him. The Jones/Evans feud would play out throughout the year with everyone associated getting involved, including coaches. It turned out to be a sad situation and because of injuries, fans are still waiting to see if they will ever get the fight they want to see.

After his crowd-pleasing KO win over Michael Bisping at UFC 100, Dan Henderson famously left the organization for Strikeforce. The move paid off as he knocked out Rafael Cavalcante in the third round, giving him the Strikeforce Light Heavyweight title and a renewed vigor as a champion in the sport. But without any real divisional depth, Kid Nate wanted Hendo to fight Fedor Emelianenko...and he'd eventually get it.
Other Stuff That Happened
At UFC 126, Urijah Faber made his UFC debut count over Eddie Wineland and earned a shot at Bantamweight Champion and rival Dominick Cruz in the process...Phil Davis remained undefeated and Anthony Johnson ensured that Dan Hardy's struggles continued...Chan Sung Jung submitted Leonard Garcia with an awesome looking twister, which Eddie Bravo broke down.

The UFC will be adding a new country to its 2012 passport as they'll be heading to Sweden for the first time in company history for a yet-to-be announced March event, according to a Swedish MMA site. The event is scheduled for Stockholm on Wednesday, March 28th, likely to be a Fight Night event on FX or Fuel TV. There are several options for arenas like the large AEG-run Stockholm Arena or the 16,000 seat Ericsson Globe. This will be the promotion's first trip to a Nordic country.
An interesting side note from Nordic MMA-centric site MMA Viking:
The newly rumored date of March 28 for a "Fight Night" may also help the fact that the Swedish MMA Federation (SMMAF) does not currently permit bouts over 15 minutes, so the main event may not be at the UFC’s newly established 5-round fights.
The UFC may be backtracking on their announcement earlier this year regarding all main events being five-round fights as the recently announced Jim Miller vs. Melvin Guillard main event for UFC on FX 1 will be three rounds.
The UFC already has trips to Brazil, Japan and Australia planned for the first quarter of the year.
The UFC team will be racking up a record number of frequent flyer miles with a January event in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a February show in Saitama, Japan, and, apparently, a March visit to Sydney, Australia for UFC 145. Though nothing has been confirmed yet, if things unfold as planned the festivities will mark the third year in a row the UFC has set up camp in the land of kangaroos and koalas during the first-quarter of the calendar.
News of the likely lineup, rumored for March 4, was first reported by MMAJunkie while citing sources close to the negotiations. Also mentioned was the possibility of Thiago Alves vs. Martin Kampmann taking place on the main card.
The UFC’s previous stints in Australia included UFC 110 and UFC 127 with the former featuring Cain Velasquez’s coming out party against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and the latter remembered for BJ Penn fighting to a draw with Jon Fitch.
A Look Back at UFC 127
With George Sotiropoulos and Mark Hunt already scheduled for action in late February neither regional talent is expected to compete at UFC 145 though Kyle Noke certainly seems to be a realistic possibility.

The UFC's international-use octagon could be taking a swift trip south following the promotion's trip to Japan.
Sources close to negotiations today told MMAjunkie.com that Sydney is under consideration for an early March pay-per-view event, possibly UFC 145 on March 4.
If confirmed, the event would be the third to touch down in Australia's biggest city following two sold-out events, UFC 110 and UFC 127.
Fresh off November wins, welterweights Martin Kampmann and Thiago Alves are expected to square off at a March 3 UFC event that could be the third UFC on Fox card, according to MMA Weekly.
Kampmann (18-5) scored a decision win over Rick Story this past Saturday at UFC 139 to rebound from losses to Diego Sanchez and Jake Shields, while Alves (19-8) bounced back from a loss to Story marking his third loss in four fights with a first-round submission of newcomer Papy Abedi earlier this month at UFC 138.
No further details are known about the March 3 event, as the second UFC on Fox event is expected to take place on January 28 but has also not been made official.
