In addition to a previously announced headliner between John Salter and Josh Samman, June's "Xtreme Fighting Championship 18:
Music City Mayhem" event features six additional fights on the evening's
HDNet-broadcast main card.
XFC officials recently announced the lineup also includes Scott Barrett
vs. Gabriel Salinas Jones, Sofia Bagherdai vs. Heather Jo Clark, Luke
Sanders vs. Chris Wright, Jason Blackford vs. Donny Wallace, Scott
Holtzman vs. Matt Metts and Joe Ray vs. Dustin West.
XFC 18 takes place June 22 at Nashville Municipal Auditorium in Tennessee.
With so many fights coming up spread across eight different weight classes, it's easy to lose track of what's happening in every division. Here, we take a look at where a particular division stands right now, and where it's headed.
At UFC On Fuel TV 3 this Tuesday, Featherweights take center stage with the Dustin Poirier vs. Korean Zombie main event. Last week, the Featherweights were also in the news with the announcement of Jose Aldo's next title defense against Erik Koch at UFC 149. But outside of those two fights, the division remains in a growing state with a lot of fights on the horizon, but not a lot of potential contenders breaking out. Let's take a look at everything coming up at 145 and see what the future might hold.
Next in Line: #1 Jose Aldo vs. #9 Erik Koch (UFC 149, July 21)
Other DIvision Schedules: Heavyweight | Middleweight
As the next title fight, this one is a bit of a head scratcher. Originally, Koch was slated to fight Dustin Poirier for an assumed #1 contender status, but Koch went down to injury. Now, Poirier is fighting the much higher profile Korean Zombie, while Koch is returning from a near year long absence and being thrust into the title picture. With his last win coming against Jonathan Brookins, it's hard to see Koch as worthy of the shot right now. A win for him would be a near Serra vs. GSP level of upset.
More in the full article.
Key Match Ups:
Here's where the relative shallow-ness of the division comes through. There are a lot of fights on deck, but where are the possible title challengers? This week's Poirier vs. Jung fight should determine the next challenger. And if Hatsu Hioki wins, everyone thinks he could be next up. Everyone that is except for Hatsu Hioki, who keeps wanting to wait until he's comfortable to fight Aldo. Let's hope he doesn't blow his chance.
#6 Dustin Poirier vs. #11 Chan Sung Jung (UFC on Fuel TV, May 15)
#2 Hatsu Hioki vs. #21 Ricardo Lamas (UFC on FX, June 22)
Other Notable Fights:
These five match-ups all feature fighters who, for one reason or another, are names in the division. Three are TUF winners, Hettes is coming in off a big win, and Garcia is Garcia. Depending how these fights go, all of these winners could move into a real high profile fight next time out.
Diego Brandao vs. #22 Darren Elkins (UFC 146, May 26)
Leonard Garcia vs. Matt Grice (UFC on FX, June 8)
Jonathan Brookins vs. Charles Oliveira (TUF Live Finale, June 1)
#24 Ross Pearson vs. Cub Swanson (UFC on FX, June 22)
Jimy Hettes vs. Steven Siler (UFC on FX, June 22)
Waiting in the Wings:
There's a lot of top 10 Featherweight talent currently awaiting their next fight. Of these men, only Siver seems like a possible future title challenger, and even that feels like a bit of a stretch. Not sure if Florian will return to Featherweight - if he does, he's got a long road back to the title, as does Mendes.
#3 Chad Mendes
#7 Kenny Florian
#8 Dennis Siver
#10 Diego Nunes
All the Rest:
And finally, every other upcoming Featherweight fight.
Mike Brown vs. Daniel Pineda (UFC 146, May 26)
Max Holloway vs. Pat Schilling (TUF Live Finale, June 1)
Milton Vieira vs. Felipe Arantes (UFC 147, June 23)
#16 Yuri Alacantra vs. Hacran Dias (UFC 147, June 23)
TUF Brazil Featherweight Final (UFC 147, June 23)
George Roop vs. Antonio Carvalho (UFC 149, July 21)
Rankings based on the USA Today / SB Nation consensus rankings, dated April 26, 2012.

Based on the premise that all MMA rankings are subjective but that it’s still useful and informative to know who the online MMA community as a whole ranks as the best fighters in MMA, we collect and average the rankings of the top MMA websites to produce our consensus rankings. We compile the top MMA rankings from each of our sources and award 25 points for a first place ranking, 16 for a 10th place ranking, 1 for a 25th place ranking. A formula is used to "normalize" the data so all fighters are awarded points from those lists that do not include a full 25 fighters. This formula ensures that each ranking site awards the same number of total points regardless of how many fighters they choose to rank. Each fighter’s total is divided by the number of possible points to determine their standing in the Consensus Rankings.
Sorry, Mr. Myers.
Fedor Emelianenko, who's been toiling away on the International circuit since saying goodbye Strikeforce in the summer of 2011, has been booked to face former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight hopeful Pedro Rizzo on June 21, 2012 at the Ice Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia, according to M-1 Global Director of Operations Evengi Kogan.
T-minus two months.
Emelianenko (33-4) snapped a three-fight losing skid with a unanimous decision win over Jeff Monson last November, before making it two in a row with a first round knockout finish of judo expert Satoshi Ishii in the DREAM: "Genki Desu Ka Omisoka" year-end MMA extravaganza in Japan.
Can he make it three straight against the heavy hands of "The Rock?"
Rizzo (19-9) is on a three-fight winning streak, but hasn't been inside the cage since a technical knockout win over the reanimated corpse of Ken Shamrock back in July 2010. The Brazilian was paired off with Tim Sylvia under the ProElite banner last October, but was forced to pull out of his "Maine-iac" bout due to injury.
He's been pining for another shot inside the Octagon, but will have to settle for the ex-PRIDE deity instead. Should be interesting, to say the least.
No other match-ups or broadcast plans for the June 21 fight card have been announced at this time; however, we here at MMAmania.com promise to bring them to you just as soon as they become available!
Stay tuned.

ONE Fighting Championship today announced the formation of the ONE Asia MMA Summit 2012, a historic invitation-only gathering of the most influential figures in Eastern mixed martial arts, scheduled for June 1, 2012 through June 3, 2012 at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.
Leaders from Asia's most prominent MMA promotions, gyms, international sponsors, government partners, and media outlets will be attendance to plot a blueprint for future expansion and discuss the dramatic growth of Asian MMA since the inception of the ONE FC Network.
"In the last six months we have completely changed the game for the sport of mixed martial arts in Asia," stated ONE FC Owner and CEO Victor Cui.
"My vision is to create the best MMA network in Asia by choosing strategic partnerships made up of only the best promotions, gyms, sponsors, and media companies in the region. The ONE Asia MMA Summit 2012 is an opportunity for us to come together to share ideas, harness the phenomenal growth of MMA in Asia and create opportunities for all."
In addition, officials confirmed a shift in date and venue for the promotion's upcoming summer show, ONE FC: Destiny of Warriors.
Due to surging ticket demands, the event has been relocated to Kuala Lumpur's 8.000-seat Stadium Negara and rescheduled for June 23, 2012. A fight card has yet to be revealed.
As One FC continues to grow and expand throughout Asia, the fledgling promotion has now scheduled a MMA summit to take place in Singapore in early June to benefit the growth and expansion of the sport.
Looking for his third straight win after an infamous three-fight losing streak, Fedor Emelianenko will next fight June 21 in Russia, M-1 on Friday said.
Fedor Emelianenko will return to action in June, but it won't be in the UFC. Following a week of speculation about where "The Last Emperor" will end up next, Evgeni Kogan, M-1 Gloval director of operations, announced Friday afternoon that Emelianenko will fight on June 21 at the Ice Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia. Emelianenko's opponent will be announced at a later date. Emelianenko (33-4, 1 NC) has gotten back on the winning track after losing three straight fights in Strikeforce in 2010-11. He snapped his losing streak by defeating Jeff Monson via unanimous decision in Nov. 2011 and then knocked out Satoshi Ishii on New Year's Eve in Japan. Late last month, UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta tweeted that he would be open to negotiating with Emelianenko if M-1 Global dropped its co-promotion stipulation, but UFC president quickly put an end to that talk when he said that he was not interested in signing the Russian fighter under any circumstances. The 35-year-old Emelianenko tweeted on Thursday that he was training in Holland.
"Spring weather, the mood of combat, begin the training process," he wrote.
Former heavyweight king Fedor Emelianenko will return to action this summer, but as most people should already know, it won’t be in the UFC. The one time Pride heavyweight champion will next fight on June 21 in his native Russia, according to M-1 Global Director of Operations Evgeni Kogan. Kogan released the news via Twitter on Friday. “Fedor Emelianenko fighting on June 21, Ice Palace, St. Petersburg, Russia. News on the opponent to come,” wrote Kogan.

UFC 147 is officially headed to Brazil with one of the biggest rematches in the promotion’s history leading the card. In a release on Monday, the UFC announced that it will be staging UFC 147 at Rio’s Engenhao stadium with Anderson Silva facing Chael Sonnen in the main event on June 23 . The fight and card have been rumored for months, but this officially seals the deal with the date and stadium being confirmed. The Engenhao stadium plays home to the Botafogo football club in Brazil, and should pack in nearly 60,000 fans for the June event.
The UFC will return to the FX network twice in June, on the 8th and the 22nd. UFC on FX 4 on June 22nd will take place in the new Revel hotel and casino in Atlantic City, NJ, and will feature a big lightweight main event. Former title challenger Gray Maynard will meet Clay Guida in a five-round fight. In addition to that, Rick Story will look to reclaim top-tier welterweight status in a bout with Rich Attonito, and Brian Ebersole will return to face T.J. Waldburger. Here's the current card:
June 22nd, live on FX from Atlantic City, NJ:
Gray Maynard (10-1-1, 1 NC) vs. Clay Guida (29-12)
Rich Attonito (10-5) vs. Rick Story (13-5)
Brian Ebersole (49-14-1, 1 NC) vs. T.J. Waldburger (15-6)

It had been initially report that the Ian McCall vs. Demetrious Johnson flyweight tournament rematch would take place at the TUF Live Finale on June 1st, but that will not be the case. Instead, the bout will take place on the newly-announced UFC on FX 3 card a week later on June 8th. As usual, UFC.com has the info you need to know:
"On June 8, Demetrious Johnson and Ian McCall will rematch and settle one of the year's most controversial fights," said UFC president Dana White today. Johnson and McCall put on a Fight of the Night-winning performance at UFC on FX earlier this month in Sydney in the UFC's first-ever flyweight bout.
The bout was one of two scheduled as a mini-tournament to determine the contenders for the UFC's first-ever flyweight championship. Although Johnson was announced as the winner, it was revealed that the judges' scores were mistabulated and the bout was in fact a draw.
The winner of the second Johnson vs. McCall bout will move on to eventually face Joseph Benavidez - who defeated Yasuhiro Urushitani on that same night in Sydney - and fight for the 125-pound title.
This event doesn't have a location set yet, but that will be determined by a contest the UFC is holding called the Harley Davidson Hometown Throwdown.
There was some confusion over how the UFC on FX cards would play out when Zuffa recently announced that Gray Maynard vs. Clay Guida would main event an FX event on June 22nd. So, just to get it straight - flyweight rematch means FX 3, Gray/Guida means FX 4. Got it? Good.
After a seven-year drought, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is finally returning to Atlantic City, NJ with UFC on FX 4, featuring Gray Maynard vs. Clay Guida in the network-televised headliner booked for the new Revel Hotel and Casino on June 22, 2012.
From Press of Atlantic City:
The country's most popular mixed martial arts organization announced Monday that it will end its seven-year hiatus from Atlantic City on Friday, June 22 when it stages a card at Revel's 5,500-seat entertainment arena.
"I've never been to Atlantic City," Maynard said in a phone interview from Las Vegas. "I'm looking forward to it."
The $2.4 billion casino resort is scheduled to open April 2.
Maynard, a former two-time number one division contender, spent the entire 2011 mixed martial arts (MMA) fight season attempting to wrest the belt from the resilient clutches of UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar.
Despite his best efforts, including two brutal first rounds at UFC 125 and UFC 136, during which he beat "The Answer" from pillar to post, Edgar stormed back to earn a draw and then a come-from-behind technical knockout.
"The Bully," who now trains at American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) in San Jose, Calif., will now have to fight his way back toward the top, starting with "The Carpenter."
Guida himself was in the 2011 lightweight number one contender "mix," submitting Takanori Gomi and decisioning the last man to hold the World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) lightweight belt, Anthony Pettis.
In fact, he was riding a four-fight win streak inside the Octagon before Ben Henderson derailed his hairy hopes, taking a unanimous decision in a great back-and-forth battle at UFC on Fox 1 just last month to earn the next shot at Edgar.
So close, yet so far away, for both veterans.
No other bouts or a potential venue for UFC on FX 4 are known at this time. UFC 53: "Heavy Hitters" in June 2005 was the last time the organization held an event in South Jersey.

Due to a scoring error, Ian McCall and Demetrious Johnson didn’t get to have a round four at their fight in Australia at UFC on FX 2, so they’ll do it all over again in June. Sources have confirmed to MMAWeekly.com that McCall and Johnson will meet for a second time at The Ultimate Fighter Live finale on June 1 in Las Vegas. The date for the bout was first reported by MMAInterviews.TV . McCall and Johnson had a Fight of the Night during their bout at UFC on FX 2 just a few weeks back, where Johnson was initially declared the winner.

Fabricio Werdum will make his return to the octagon in June, and it will be against a somewhat-surprising opponent at first glance. It's hard to argue with the logic of the booking though. MMA Fighting has the news:
A heavyweight fight between Fabricio Werdum and Mike Russow is close to being finalized, according to sources close to both camps. Both fighters have already verbally agreed to the bout, which is expected to take place on the UFC's return to Brazil later this year, which is slated for late June 2012.
No exact date or location has been finalized just yet.
Werdum (15-5-1) is coming off a dominant decision win in his UFC return over Roy Nelson at UFC 143, while Russow (15-1, 1 NC) ran his UFC record to 4-0 with a decision win over Jon-Olav Einemo at UFC on Fox 2 in January.
There are three UFC cards tentatively scheduled for June at the moment - The Ultimate Fighter 15 Finale on June 1st, UFC 147 on June 16th (which currently doesn't have a home), and UFC on FX 4 on the 22nd. Logic would dictate that the bout would be on the PPV, especially if it takes place in Brazil. But we'll have to wait and see.

Werdum (15-5-1) looked fantastic in his return to the UFC in February, defeating Roy Nelson via unanimous decision. The win marked Werdum's first in the UFC since he defeated Brandon Vera at UFC 85 in June 2008. Russow (15-1, 1 NC), who also works a full-time Chicago police officer, most recently defeated Jon Olav Einemo at UFC on FOX 2 in January. The win extended Russow's overall winning streak to 11 in a row and four straight inside the Octagon. Also expected to take place on the same card is Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen II and Vitor Belfort vs. Wanderlei Silva.
Jose Aldo is still the man to beat in the UFC‘s featherweight division given the talented Brazilian’s ability to withstand multiple challengers to his crown. One man who seemed poised to break into the role of contender recently had an injury ending his hopes, though now he seems ready to fight again in the next few months.
Erik Koch, who is on a four-fight winning streak, was set to face Dustin Poirier last month before being knocked out of the bout for health-related reasons. Now, according to manager Mike Roberts, Koch is targeting a return in June and will be seeking a bout with a 145er who can help advance him towards his goal of challenging for Aldo’s belt.
“A training injury required him to take a little bit of time off,” explained Roberts to MMAWeekly. “He took the time off, got his body back healthy. He should be back in there around June. I’ll be pretty excited for that.”
Koch, who trains with Duke Roufus, could become the top threat to Aldo by default with another big win. Poirier has set he doesn’t feel ready to compete for the title quite yet, while Hatsu Hioki could be next in line for “Scarface” already based on his big win over Bart Palaszewski at UFC 144.
“I’m looking for him to be back in June with a big fight, as well,” Roberts said of his 13-1 client. “Getting him right in there and getting a crack at Jose Aldo.”
“New Breed” has earned three early stoppages in his four consecutive victories, while his lone career loss has come at the hands of former #1 contender Chad Mendes in 2010.

Former Strikeforce heavyweight attraction and longtime PRIDE FC champion Fedor Emelianenko is ready to get back into action this summer, kicking off a 2012 fight campaign that could see him serve as the encore to the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Monaco.
That's according to Evgeni Kogan, director of operations for M-1 Global, who told MMA Fighting that Emelianenko is in "fine health" and ready to compete in June.
"We're working towards securing a Fedor fight in Monaco for the summer, sometime around the time when Formula One happens. Specifically, a little while afterwards ... closer to the second week of June. The search for the opponent is currently in process with a number of worthy candidates being considered."
One of those candidates, according to the latest fan outburst on Twitter rumors, is UFC washout Todd Duffee, who is coming off back-to-back knockout losses to Mike Russow and Alistair Overeem.
Emelianenko snapped a three-fight losing skid with a unanimous decision win over Jeff Monson last November, before making it two in a row with a first round knockout finish of judo expert Satoshi Ishii in the DREAM: "Genki Desu Ka Omisoka" year-end MMA extravaganza in Japan.
While his stateside appeal has dropped significantly, it's not unreasonable to think he can continue putting butts in the seats overseas -- as long as he keeps winning.
Anyone heavyweights out there not on the ZUFFA roster that might be a good match-up for the Sambo specialist in Monaco?
UFC on FX 4 is 'penciled in' for Atlantic City, N.J., on June 22, 2012, according to Lorenzo Fertitta in a recent ESPN.com report. No bouts or a potential venue are known at this time. That's only about six weeks after the promotion stages an event, UFC on FOX 3, hours up the road in East Rutherford on May 5. UFC 53: "Heavy Hitters" in June 2005 was the last time the organization held an event in South Jersey.
A rematch nearly two years in the making.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight number one contender Chael Sonnen, who was just a few short minutes away from defeating Anderson Silva at UFC 117 back in August 2010, will have a chance to exorcize his submission demons in a championship rematch against "The Spider" later this year.
That's according to UFC President Dana White on the UFC on Fox 2 post-fight show, who confirmed that Silva vs. Sonnen II was "set" for June 2012 in Brazil, most likely headlining a pay-per-view event in Sao Paulo.
Sonnen co-headlined the Jan. 28 event opposite Michael Bisping, narrowly squeaking past "The Count" via unanimous decision. That, coupled with his submission win over Brian Stann at UFC 136, was enough to put him back into a main event title fight across from his Brazilian nemesis.
And beating the brakes off Silva for four-and-a-half rounds in their first encounter may have helped expedite the process.
Silva is currently on the sidelines rehabbing multiple injuries and has yet to comment on his return to the fight game; however, White insists he's a lock for this June in the wake of Sonnen's victory over Bisping.
Sonnen claims otherwise.
Regardless, it looks as though this could be the final run for Silva as the top dog in combat sports. If he manages to get past Sonnen in June, few challenges remain inside the anemic 185-pound division.
Until then, expect a lengthy trash-talking campaign from you-know-who.
You ready?
More on the UFC on Fox 2 fallout here.
Kenny Florian is giving it until June to determine whether or not he can recover from a back injury. If that's the end of his career, Florian says he has no regrets.
[div class="notice" class2="icon"]The following is from an article on LiverKick.com, part of the MiddleEasy Network.[/div]
Peter Aerts confirmed today to Dutch site Round1Network that as rumored, he will be fighting Tyrone Spong on June 30 for It's Showtime. He also mentioned that the event will be at the Brabant Hallen in Den Bosch, Holland. The fight will be the last of his legendary, illustrious career.
Spong is one of the toughest possible match-ups for "The Dutch Lumberjack," and it's fitting, as Aerts has fought the best of the best for his whole career, from beginning to end. Before the fight happens, Spong will face off with Melvin Manhoef on January 28. The fight card of the event on June 30 will be announced during It's Showtime's show on January 28.

June was a return to action after a May relatively devoid of in-cage action and what a return it was. MMA fans were treated to a contender-rich UFC card, the semifinals of the Strikeforce Grand Prix, a UFC on Versus card, Bellator kicking off its Summer Series and there was plenty of controversy involving Nate Marquardt and Joe Rogan that had the industry and fans talking.
June 2011 - Earning Their Shots
Junior dos Santos originally had been tabbed to fight then-UFC Champion Cain Velasquez, but a shoulder injury forced the champion to turn the match down. JDS then accepted a match with Brock Lesnar and they signed on for The Ultimate Fighter's 13th season as coaches but medical issues forced Lesnar to pull out of the match. Shane Carwin was asked to faced Santos in a No. 1 contender's match where Dos Santos picked Carwin apart and emphatically earned his shot at UFC gold.
On that same card, Kenny Florian made his debut at 145 and won a narrow victory over Diego Nunes, earning him a title shot against Jose Aldo. Mark Munoz survived being rocked and a back crucifix attack against Demian Maia, earning a victory and entry into the upper tier of middleweights.
On the Strikeforce side, Alistar Overeem won what would his final promotional match in a less than thrilling scrap with Fabricio Werdum, while in Bellator, Pat Curran dropped down to featherweight and looked like a force of nature when he slapped a Peruvian Necktie on a Peruvian fighter.

UFC on Versus 4 was meant to highlight the UFC welterweight division, pairing the up-and-comer Rick Story against veteran Nate Marquardt who was making his welterweight debut. But the fight never happened as Marquardt failed his medical exams due to abnormal testosterone levels and was cut from the UFC. Local favorite Charlie Brenneman was called on to replace Marquardt on a few hours notice and then proceeded to upset Story.
Marquardt would later break his silence on Ariel Helwani's MMA Hour show, addressing why he was cut and sparking a debate on the role of TRT in MMA.

UFC color commentator Joe Rogan decided to weigh in on a twitter outburst of Rampage Jackson, posting on a popular online forum and using some choice language when referring to Yahoo reporter Maggie Hendricks. This situation caused enough outcry for Dana White to issue an official statement and Rogan issued an apology.

Strikeforce heavyweight Brett Rogers was arrested in late-June and was charged with domestic assault after police accused Rogers of striking his wife and then choking her. Rogers had just lost to Josh Barnett and was out of the Strikeforce Grand Prix. His new boss White reacted quickly, releasing Rogers immediately.

UFC president Dana White confirmed after UFC 139 that shoulder trouble will likely keep UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva out of action until June of 2012. His future opponent, Chael Sonnen, has expressed interest in taking another fight before the June rematch. MMAWeekly reports that Sonnen is a likely candidate to end up on UFC on Fox 2 in January.
Silva has been suffering from shoulder bursitis since before his UFC 134 victory over Yushin Okami. Silva has delayed treatment on the shoulder in order to help friends Wanderlei Silva and Lyoto Machida prepare for their respective bouts against Cung Le and UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida. The Silva vs. Sonnen rematch is expected to headline the UFC’s June 2012 return to Sao Paulo, Brazil after a nearly 14-year hiatus.
In the mean time, no possible opponents were named for Sonnen but it does appear likely he will fight between now and his probably June 2012 rematch with Silva.
Brett Rogers was arrested again early this morning. The Apple Valley Patch in Apple Valley, MN is reporting that Rogers was arrested on an outstanding warrant related to his June arrest. This past June, the former Strikeforce fighter was arrested and charged with felony third-degree assault against his wife. Rogers pled guilty to that charge, and was released pending sentencing. Today's arrest was for failing to comply with certain conditions of that pre-sentencing release.
Rogers was also arrested in late September for violating the order of protection issued after the June domestic assault.
Sentencing for the June incident will be on November 30. If convicted, Rogers could face a maximum of up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Rogers was released from his Strikeforce contract following the initial arrest. He has since competed in MMA once more, fighting on the card for Titan FC 20, where he lost to Eddie Sanchez.
