Two always-game veterans known for ending opponents’ evenings will collide this summer in the form of a bout at UFC on FX 3 between Mike Pyle and Josh Neer. The welterweights are both coming off opening round stoppages and have earned a combined 48 of 55 wins by way of submission/TKO.
Pyle confirmed the bout had been made via Twitter.
Neer, who celebrates his 29th birthday today, had his hand raised in January against Duane Ludwig after choking “Bang” out cold to pick up his sixth consecutive victory with all involving some form of finish. He holds a 33-10-1 record with past triumphs over T.J. Waldburger, Mac Danzig, Joe Stevenson, and Melvin Guillard.
The 22-8 Pyle may not have Neer’s current winning streak but has seen his share of success as of late, only losing one of his last five fights. The submission specialist was last seen beating Ricardo Funch at UFC 142, adding his name to a list of others who have fallen to “Quicksand” such as Dan Hornbuckle, Ricardo Almeida, and Jon Fitch.
The June 8 show will be headlined by a rematch between flyweights Demetrious Johnson-Ian McCall with other featured bouts including Scott Jorgensen-Eddie Wineland and Dustin Pague-Jared Papazian. No location has been revealed as a contest is being run to determine where the event will take place.

A new welterweight bout has been added to the upcoming UFC on FX 3 card with veterans Mike Pyle and Josh Neer set to square off. Pyle officially announced the match-up via Twitter on Friday. A true veteran of the sport, Mike Pyle has faced some of the stiffest competition of any welterweight in the UFC or anywhere else, for that matter. Currently holding a 5-3 record in the Octagon, Pyle most recently picked up a quick an impressive win over Ricardo Funch at UFC 142 in Brazil .
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) might be doing some matchmaking on the sneak -- either that or Mike Pyle is issuing some forward-looking statements regarding his participation at the UFC on FX 3 fight card, booked for June 8 at a location to be determined.
That's where "Quicksand" says he'll be fighting Josh Neer and looking to make it two in a row after stopping Ricardo Funch at the UFC 142: "Aldo vs. Mendes" pay-per-view (PPV) event back in January. Pyle (22-8) is 4-1 over his last five fights, his only blemish a technical knockout loss to division upstart Rory MacDonald back at UFC 133.
Neer (33-10) is also coming off a first round win after choking out Duane Ludwig a few months back at the UFC on FX event in Nashville, Tennessee. It was the sixth consecutive victory for "The Dentist" and second straight since returning to the Octagon last October.
Pyle announces his upcoming match-up (via Fight Church Las Vegas) after the jump.

There’s gonna be a whole lot of standing and banging going on at UFC 146.
Before Junior dos Santos and Alistair Overeem stand toe-to-toe in the main event, Dan Hardy and Duane Ludwig will bang it out in what is sure to be a thrilling stand-up war. The UFC confirmed the match-up earlier today.
It’s an important fight for Ludwig. He’s coming off a loss to Josh Neer and no fighter wants to be on a two-fight skid in the UFC.
Picking up a win may be important for Ludwig, but it’s nowhere near as critical for him as it is for Hardy. He’s on a four-fight skid and pretty much only has his job because UFC brass likes his style and warrior spirit. That will only take him so far though. He needs a win and needs it bad. Perhaps more so than anyone else in the UFC.

In what will more than likely be a standup fight, Duane "Bang" Ludwig is slated to meet Dan Hardy at UFC 146 on May 26 in Las Vegas, the UFC confirmed Wednesday. Two welterweights with weaknesses on the floor and a strong preference to keep the fight standing, Ludwig and Hardy are both looking to get back on the winning track after coming off submission losses to Josh Neer and Chris Lytle, respectively.
Ludwig was recently seen in a loss to Neer by guillotine choke at the UFC on FX event on Jan. 20, putting a stop to Ludwig's momentum after two straight wins and the recognition of holding the UFC's fastest knockout.
Hardy has not won a fight since November 2009 and is riding a four-fight losing streak. Despite the skid, he's kept his job due to his gameness as a fighter. UFC 146 will likely be headlined by a heavyweight title bout between champion Junior dos Santos and challenger Alistair Overeem.
Four men walked away from UFC on FX 1 with post-fight bonuses on Saturday night, as Josh Neer, Pat Barry, Christian Morecraft and Nick Denis each took home an extra $45,000 from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn.
Josh Neer managed to survive an early onslaught from Duane Ludwig before locking in a deep guillotine choke that put Ludwig to sleep.
After the fight hit the mat, Ludwig tried to scramble and left his neck exposed to an extremely gritty veteran. Besides being rocked on the feet during an initial striking match, Neer also realized he had to keep busy:
“When I was on top of him I could feel blood trickle down my neck,” Neer said post-fight. “I didn’t know how bad the cut was above my eye, so I knew I had to finish him and finish quick. I saw an opening and got him.”
Since returning to the UFC in late 2001, Neer has gone 2-0, including a TKO against Keith Wisniewski last October. Expect the former FMS product to receive another tough test in the lightweight division later this year, while he hopes to build his UFC resume (again).
The UFC made their FX network debut tonight, delivering an action packed line-up from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. Perennial Lightweight contender Jim Miller added another name to his impressive resume, submitting Melvin Guillard in the headlining bout, while Josh Neer improved his win streak to six, choking-out Duane Ludwig in the co-main event. Also featured was Bantamweight prospect Mike Easton, who took a closely-contested decision win over Jared Papazian, and Pat Barry got back in
Duane Ludwig won’t tell Josh Neer what to do, but he thinks Neer should probably try to get him to the ground when they meet Jan. 20 at UFC on FX “Guillard vs. Miller.”
Welterweight Duane Ludwig doesn't care where his fight with Josh Neer goes on Friday – he's ready for whatever "The Dentist" brings to the table in Nashville.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - In earlier octagon times, Josh Neer got caught up in the hype of thinking his opponents would welcome a slugfest. It was the UFC, after all, and everyone was tough. Who wouldn't want to test himself?
With calluses worn onto his back, he found out differently.
On Friday, Neer embarks on the second fight of his fourth stint in the UFC, and he's fighting one of the better pure strikers in the welterweight division.
The UFC's first-ever FX-broadcast card takes place on Friday, and fans
