UFC officials have yet to make an official announcement regarding Faber's status on the card or if an interim bantamweight title bout will be created. If so, up-and-coming prospects Renan Barao (28-1, 1 NC) and Michael McDonald (15-1) would be the most likely candidates.

UFC 146 can still claim an all-heavyweight main card, despite Alistair Overeem’s withdrawal from the main event and subsequent line-up shuffling.
Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Stipe Miocic (8-0) has stepped up to fill the final gap left by Overeem’s absence and will be taking on fellow undefeated big man Shane Del Rosario (11-0) on the night’s main card.
Ohio-born and of Czech descent, Miocic has gone 2-0 since making it into the UFC, picking up victories over Joey Beltran in his debut and Philip de Fries in his most recent outing. Miocic defeated de Fries by first-round knockout in February at UFC on Fuel TV: Sanchez vs. Ellenberger. Prior to meeting Beltran, Miocic had finished all of his fights within the distance.
Del Rosario, who hasn’t yet allowed a bout to go the distance, will be making his UFC debut against Miocic. The Californian was expected to face Gabriel Gonzaga on the card, but Gonzaga stepped up to face Roy Nelson for Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva, who who will take on Cain Velasquez instead of Frank Mir, who was called up to fight Junior dos Santos for the belt.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White brought "good news and bad news" to the mixed martial arts (MMA) fans in Brazil today (April 24, 2012). Okay, so it was mostly bad, as the Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen rematch is heading to Las Vegas and UFC 147 still doesn't have a venue to host it.
On the brighter side, UFC Featherweight Champion and hometown hero Jose Aldo may get the call to head back home for his next 145-pound title defense.

"The Spider" was expected to defend his 185-pound strap against his arch nemesis in the main event of UFC 147 on June 23 in Brazil; however, extenuating circumstances forced the world's largest fight promotion to shuffle the deck and send its two middleweight stars to "Sin City."
Any changes coming to the UFC 147 line-up, including the 185-pound grudge match between Wanderlei Silva vs. Vitor Belfort, have yet to be revealed, but UFC President Dana White and the usual cast of characters are sure to update the pending fight card during today's pre-fight presser.

The UFC has not given up on Alistair Overeem.
On Friday afternoon, UFC officials filed a license application on the heavyweight contender's behalf for a bout with Junior Dos Santos at UFC 146, Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer told MMAjunkie.com.

Silva (16-3) followed up the biggest win of his career, a technical knockout victory over Fedor Emelianenko, with his most crushing defeat, a knockout loss to Strikeforce 265-pound phenom Daniel Cormier.
Can he get back to his winning ways in his new home against another undersized heavyweight over the Memorial Day Weekend? The oddsmakers have indicated as much, pegging the bastion of Burger King a +175 underdog.
Nelson (16-7) is a mediocre 3-3 inside the Octagon. After retiring a debilitated Mirko Filipovic at last year's UFC 137, he was battered and bruised across three rounds by Fabricio Werdum at UFC 143 just over a month ago, prompting promotion president Dana White to once again ask him to lose some weight.
Not happening.

UFC 148 headliner and Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 15 coach Dominick Cruz takes fans inside his training camp for a quick look at his preparations for his July 7 rubber match against Urijah Faber at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The two first met up back in the World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) days when "The California Kid" was ruling the roost as featherweight champion. Faber submitted Cruz in that fateful first meeting, besting his foe in just 1:38 of the first round.
"The Dominator" got his revenge just over four years later at UFC 132 with a unanimous decision victory in the main event of the promotion's annual Fourth of July weekend fight card. It should come as no surprise then, to learn the bantamweight champ is currently the odds-on favorite to make it two in a row.

UFC 148 gets another fight with the addition of a bantamweight bout between the streaking Renan Barao and Doug Hougland. The two meet July 7 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight number one contender Alistair Overeem must appear in court on March 27, 2012, to answer for charges of misdemeanor battery, stemming from alleged contact with a woman at the Wynn casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Overeem was not arrested, rather issued a citation that his attorney David Chesnoff, of "Sin City's" Chesnoff & Schonfeld law firm, plans to "vigorously defend."
"The Reem" is (of course) innocent until proven guilty, but could face up to six months in prison and a $1,000 fine if convicted by Judge Diana Sullivan during his upcoming bench trial (non-jury).
While unlikely, the worst case scenario would yank him from his headlining bout at UFC 146 on May 26 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, where he's booked to challenge Junior dos Santos for the UFC heavyweight title.
Stay tuned.

Did someone order a trilogy?
Okay, maybe you didn't but you're getting one nonetheless when Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz hooks up with his arch nemesis, Urijah Faber, for one more tussle expected to take place at UFC 148 on July 7, 2012, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The two first met up back in the World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) days when "The California Kid" was ruling the roost as featherweight champion. Faber submitted Cruz in that fateful first meeting, besting his foe in just 1:38 of the first round.
Payback's a bitch, though, and "The Dominator" got his just over four years later at UFC 132 with a unanimous decision victory in the main event of the promotion's annual Fourth of July weekend fight card.
Perhaps that's why he's been inserted as the slight favorite at -215 for the trilogy bout, according to noted oddsmaker Nick Kalikas on his MMA Oddsbreaker show.
Faber comes in as the underdog at +165.
A lot can affect this line moving forward, the least of which being the issues that arise between the two during their stint coaching The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 15, which debuted this past Friday (March 9) on FX. For that we'll have to stay tuned.
In the meantime, let's hear your initial reactions to these preliminary odds. Too high? Too low? Let's talk turkey in the comments section below.
To be frank, there's never been a better time to lay down some cheddar on Mir.
That's because the former UFC Heavyweight Champion, who's been on a long and arduous journey in pursuit of the 265-pound crown, is a +325 underdog in his fight against Cain Velasquez, booked for UFC 146 on May 26, 2012, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Velasquez is the -500 favorite, according to our fiscal friends at Best Fight Odds.
Despite a three-fight winning streak, one that culminated in a bone-breaking win over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 140 last December, Mir (16-5) was lit up on his feet by the aging Brazilian prior to the submission finish. Velasquez, widely-recognized as the division's finest wrestler, also has knockout power and never-ending cardio.
But -500?
Once considered unstoppable, "Brown Pride" was brown-bagged and eaten for lunch by a hungry Brazilian bomb-dropper named Junior dos Santos, whose two shots to the dome ended their UFC on FOX headliner in just over a minute.
The poor performance by Velasquez (9-1), which may have been overly-criticized considering he only had 64 seconds to strut his stuff, was attributed to his long layoff for shoulder surgery, as well as a bum knee sustained in training camp.
But was the loss to "Cigano" a bump in the road? Or the beginning of the end?
We know what the oddsmakers think. How about you? Let's get some initial reactions to the opening lines. Cain getting too much respect? Or Frank not getting enough?
More on their titanic tilt right here.
Junior dos Santos is finally set to make his first title defense since winning the UFC heavyweight title, as his matchup with Alistair Overeem has been confirmed for UFC 146 on May 26th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta mentioned the date was likely for the event earlier this year.
Dos Santos (14-1) defeated then-undefeated champion Cain Velasquez at UFC on Fox 1 in November to win the UFC heavyweight title. He holds an undefeated 8-0 record in the UFC, which includes victories over Velasquez, Shane Carwin, and Fabricio Werdum. This will be just his second fight in Las Vegas. The other fight took place at UFC 108, also held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, where he knocked out Gilbert Yvel in the first round.
Overeem (36-11-1) returns to Las Vegas for the first time since making his long-awaited UFC debut at UFC 141 in December. Overeem defeated former champion Brock Lesnar in the first round via TKO. Prior to the transition to the UFC, Overeem had a distinguished career spanning from fighting in Japan for Pride and Dream to stateside fighting for Strikeforce. Overeem won the heavyweight championship in both Dream and Strikeforce, along with winning the 2010 K-1 World Grand Prix. He is the first fighter to ever win a world title in both MMA and K-1 kickboxing.
UFC 146 will be the first of two pay-per-view events to be held at MGM Grand Garden Arena this summer, with UFC 148 taking place there on July 7th, as well.
Along with the heavyweight championship main event, UFC 146 will also feature two surging lightweights in Edson Barboza and Evan Dunham, a welterweight matchup between Dan Hardy and Duane Ludwig, and a middleweight battle between Jason “Mayhem” Miller and C.B. Dollaway.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Bantamweight kingpin Dominick Cruz will put his 135-pound title on the line (again) against arch rival Urijah Faber at UFC 148, tentatively scheduled for July 7, 2012, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Says who? Yup, it's that guy again. UFC big boss Lorenzo Fertitta, who recently turned his official Twitter account into a billboard for posting fight announcements.
But Cruz and Faber aren't doing anything in "Sin City" until they satisfy their coaching duties on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 15, which debuts via its new home on FX next month (March 9, 2012) with a two-hour season premiere.
Subsequent episodes will run for one hour every Friday night for 13 weeks and, thanks to the new format, will feature LIVE fights.
Cruz and Faber have beef from their days competing under the World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) banner. Faber, the promotion's 145-pound champion, made quick work of "The Dominator" with a first round submission (guillotine choke) in March 2007.
Cruz dropped 10 pounds shortly after the loss, the first of his mixed martial arts (MMA) career, and went on to win the bantamweight belt. "The California Kid" eventually followed suit after two losses to Mike Brown and another to Jose Aldo, hoping a change of scenery would help get him back to the promised land.
However, in the most recent match up between Cruz and Faber at UFC 132 -- a fast-paced and furious, five-round fight -- Cruz would exact revenge in the form of a unanimous decision.
Ever since that fateful night on on July 2, 2011, in Las Vegas, Nevada, Faber has been calling for another crack at Cruz, who he believes he defeated when they last squared off.
He'll now get another (title) shot at the culmination of the coaching season.

"Demolition Man" gets the Burt Watson treatment, pees in a cup and predicts an early knockout of the former UFC champion. What he didn't predict is that Lesnar would call it quits following the loss and get the heck out of Dodge before anyone could ask him why.
Not that we don't already know the answer.
"The Reem" teases episode 10, which is likely to contain footage of the aftermath surrounding his big win inside the Octagon and all the festivities that followed it.

LAS VEGAS - Friday's year-end UFC 141 event drew an announced attendance of 12,158 and a live gate of $3.1 million.
UFC president Dana White announced the figures in the night's post-event
press conference, which MMAjunkie.com attended.
UFC 141 took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and
featured former Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem earning a first-round TKO finish of
former UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar in the pay-per-view
headliner.
LAS VEGAS - The featured wrestler vs. wrestler matchup ended in a swift 12-second knockout.
Continuing his rise up the division's ladder, Johny Hendricks uncorked a perfectly placed left hook that sent Jon Fitch, the world's No. 2-ranked welterweight, crashing to the mat and possibly out of the 170-pound division's title picture.
The fight was part of the pay-per-view main card of UFC 141 and followed
prelims on Facebook and Spike TV. It took place at MGM Grand Garden
Arena in Las Vegas.
LAS VEGAS - No one doubted Jim Hettes' skills, but many openly questioned whether he could show the same promise against proven big-show talent.
Those doubters likely will be silenced following the youngster's dominant unanimous-decision victory over veteran featherweight and "The Ultimate Fighter 12" semifinalist Nam Phan.
The fight kicked off the pay-per-view main card of UFC 141 and followed prelims on Facebook and Spike TV. It took place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

It followed prelims on Facebook and preceded the night's pay-per-view main card.
LAS VEGAS - In a classic striker vs. wrestler matchup, the wrestler Danny Castillo reigned supreme and survived some heavy strikes from lightweight striker Anthony Njokuani to pick up a split-decision victory.
The bout was part of the Spike TV-televised preliminary card of UFC 141 and took place at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena.
It followed prelims on Facebook and preceded the night's pay-per-view main card.
LAS VEGAS - Dong Hyun Kim successfully rebounded from his first career loss and scored a shutout unanimous-decision victory over Canadian welterweight Sean Pierson.
The bout was part of UFC 141, which took place at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena.
It was the final of three bouts that streamed on Facebook prior to the night's Spike TV and pay-per-view broadcasts.
You don't have to be from Stockton to be tough.
That's according to Donald Cerrone, who takes on the tough-talking Nate Diaz in the UFC 141 co main event tonight (Dec. 30, 2011) from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. "Cowboy" and Diaz have had their fair share of well-documented dust ups and confrontations in the build up to their lightweight match up this evening in "Sin City," all of which you can get up to speed with right here and here.
The good news is that the time for talk is about to be over -- their fists will do the talking in just a few short hours when the pay-per-view (PPV) broadcast begins at 10 p.m. ET.
Will Diaz talk the talk and walk the walk or will Cerrone put him in his place?

Jon Fitch vs. Johny Hendricks is a pivotal welterweight fight slated to take place on the UFC 141: "Lesnar vs. Overeem" pay-per-view (PPV) main card later this evening (Dec. 30, 2011) from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Fitch, a former number one division contender, is coming off a 10-month layoff, recovering from shoulder surgery, while Hendricks is looking to use the established American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) star as a stepping stone to crack into the 170-pound elite discussion.
As our very own Jesse Holland "predicted" in his UFC 141 preview yesterday (read it here), one wrestler is on the way down and the other -- who happens to be a two-time NCAA Division I champion -- is on the way up in "Sin City" tonight.
Agree or disagree?

Sherdog.com will report from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas with play-by-play and live results of UFC 141, headlined by a heavyweight clash between former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and former Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem.
The UFC 141 weigh-ins took place this afternoon at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The big men are definitely fighting tomorrow. Overeem put on even more muscle since he fought Fabricio Werdum coming in at a lean 263 lbs. Meanwhile, Brock Lesnar pushed the limits of the heavyweight cutoff point coming in at a monstrous 266 lbs. Both fighters played to the crowd with their comic book physiques although Brock Lesnar clearly knows how to work a crowd better from his WWE experience.
Nate Diaz was the only fighter on the card to miss weight coming in a pound over the 156 limit. He was given an hour to cut the weight, but Donald Cerrone yelled the equivalent of I don’t give a f***, let him fight! There wasn’t any shoving during the staredown like yesterday, mainly because Dana White positioned himself almost between the two of them, but it was intense. Those two are definitely going to throw down tomorrow.
The weigh-in results:
Brock Lesnar (266) vs. Alistair Overeem (263)
Nate Diaz (157) vs. Donald Cerrone (156)
Jon Fitch (171) vs. Johny Hendricks (170)
Alexander Gustafsson (203) vs. Vladimir Matyushenko (205)
Jim Hettes (145) vs. Nam Phan (146)
Junior Assuncao (145) vs. Ross Pearson (145)
Danny Castillo (156) vs. Anthony Njokuani (154)
Dong Hyun Kim (171) vs. Sean Pierson (171)
Efrain Escudero (155) vs. Jacob Volkmann (155)
Luis Ramos (171) vs. Matt Riddle (170)
Manny Gamburyan (146) vs. Diego Nunes (145)
Fighters in non-title fights are allowed to weigh in one pound over the weight class limit.
UFC 141 “Lesnar vs. Overeem” will take place tomorrow, Dec. 30, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and will air live on pay-per-view at 10pm ET/7pm PT.

After opening his UFC career with back-to-back losses to Paulo Thiago and Martin Kampmann, "Christmas" has quietly strung together four consecutive wins, including a UFC on Versus 5 unanimous decision nod over former WEC star Danny Castillo.
Grant is also coming off a win following his armbar submission of Shane Roller at UFC on Versus 6 earlier this month. The Fit Plus jiu-jitsu wizard is consistently inconsistent, having racked up an Octagon record of 4-3 and never winning (or losing) two in a row since his 2009 debut.
UFC 141 will take place on a Friday, on Dec. 30, 2011, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event will be headlined by a mega-fight pitting former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar taking on former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem.
Jon Fitch is also scheduled to return from shoulder surgery against budding welterweight contender Johny Hendricks.

Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair "The Reem" Overeem spoke about his upcoming bout with Brock Lesnar, which will also mark the Dutchman's debut inside the Octagon. According to Overeem, former UFC Heavyweight Champion will not be able to get out of Round 1, despite being "a strong guy". The Demolition Man is currently in the middle of his training camp for UFC 141, which will take place on December 30, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"I'm very confident. It's going to be a knockout victory in the first round. He's not going to get out of the first round. It will not come to the second round. He's a strong guy, a very dangerous guy. But, I think I've got what it takes to stop him. And I got what it takes to stop him in the first round."
-- Former Strikeforce heavyweight champion, Alistair Overeem, will make his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) debut at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Dec. 30, 2011. "Demolition Man" is being thrown to the wolves right out the gate, getting paired opposite former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar in the UFC 141 main event. It's a classic match up of contrasting styles, with Overeem -- a K-1 kickboxing champion -- holding the significant stand up advantage, while Lesnar -- a decorated amateur wrestling champion -- boasting the dominant edge on the ground. The dangerous Dutch striker doesn't seem very worried, confident that his strengths and experience will lead him to imminent, and sudden, victory on New Year's Eve weekend. Agree or disagree?
There's a welterweight scrap on tap for the upcoming UFC 141 pay-per-view that pits Korean smasher Dong Hyun Kim against ex-cop Sean Pierson, currently scheduled for Dec. 30 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Straight from UFC President Dana White:
"Two talented welterweights on the comeback trail will face off at UFC 141 when Sean Pierson takes on the ‘Stun Gun,' Dong Hyun Kim."
Kim was last seen resting his eyelids at UFC 132 back in July. The first round pasting at the knee of Carlos Condit was the first official loss of his career, and he'll unquestionably be looking to make a statement against Pierson in his December return.
UFC 129 spelled doom for the Canadian, as he tried to trade blows with Jake Ellenberger and got knocked on his keister in the process.
The loss to "The Juggernaut" snapped a six-fight win streak.
