The Ultimate Fighter (TUF): 'Brazil' set for June 10 debut on FUEL TV

Stateside mixed martial arts (MMA) fans can now join the party. The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), the promotion's popular reality television show designed to produce new and up-and-coming stars from a pool of undiscovered talent, is currently wrapping up its "Brazil" season on Globo, featuring Wanderlei Silva and Vitor Belfort as head coaches. While TUF fans were able to catch a weekly live stream on UFC.tv, the series will now be shown in its entirety on FUEL TV beginning June 10, 2012 at 10 p.m. ET, with English subtitles. The delay in Brazil's broadcast debut was to avoid counter-programming TUF 15: "Live" which is currently airing every Friday night on the FX Channel. At the conclusion of the season, which premiered back on March 25, Silva and Belfort will face off for Brazilian bragging rights, as will the finalists in both the featherweight and middleweight divisions. Even though the UFC will tie a ribbon around the "Brazil" series before it concludes on FUEL TV, it should still provide its share of thrills. Who's tuning in?

Zombie Finishes Poirier, Calls for Aldo - UFC on FUEL TV Main Event Results

FAIRFAX, VA, May 15 – If Korea needs an MMA superstar, they have found their man. “The Korean Zombie,” as 25-year-old Chan Sung Jung is affectionately known in the sport, choked out Dustin Poirier in the fourth round Tuesday night to cap a thrilling UFC on FUEL TV main event at the Patriot Center that was certainly Fight of The Night and which stands a strong chance of being one of the most entertaining scraps of 2012. “I want to thank all the Korean fans and the Korean community that came here to support me today,” the exhausted featherweight said after winning his third straight. “He had me in trouble at the beginning of the third round. The thought of giving up was in my head but I just kept going …” While Poirier began to take control in round three, repeatedly cracking a barely-able-to-stand Jung with hard left hands, it was Jung (13-3) who delivered in most other moments of the fight. He jumped on Poirier early, catching a kick for a takedown and immediately cutting Poirier’s forehead with an elbow strike. Typically relentless in his attacks, Jung suffocated Poirier (12-2) with pressure and punches and takedowns in the second, even dropping the highly-regarded Louisianan with a punch. The crowd chanted “Zombie! Zombie!” as he ravaged the “Fightville” documentary star with flying knees and threatened with deep armbars and triangle chokes. After Poirier’s resurgence in the third round, it was proper to wonder if Jung had enough in his tank to survive and keep from squandering his lead. But he put any such thoughts to rest in round four by rocking Poirier with punches and then finishing him on the mat with a D’Arce choke, ending the bout at the 1:07 mark and leaving the wondering to center on what’s next for the charismatic Korean warrior, who fights in the mold of an in-his-prime Wanderlei Silva but also has a fearsome ground game to go with it. Jung’s plans?“I want Jose Aldo.”

Dustin Poirier: “I feel like I am the best I have ever been technically”

Tomorrow night Dustin Poirier will take on “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung live on Fuel TV in Fairfax, VA. The UFC on Fuel TV 3 main event will be a five-round bout that is sure to produce fireworks in the octagon. Poirier recently spoke to Fightline’s Bryan Levick about tomorrow night’s expected title-eliminator. On training for a five-round fight: “Right now I feel like I am the best I have ever been technically, I know I am still growing as a fighter, but this is the best I have ever felt mentally and physically. I’m ready to do battle, my nutrition, my workouts are at their peak right now. I’m ready for a main event fight and to go five rounds. I feel like I am a faster, more technically sound striker than Jung and I’m sure he believes the same things. I feel like I can out-wrestle him, my BJJ is just as good as his if not better, I feel as though I match up really well against him.” On the possibility of a title shot with a win: “I haven’t heard anything from the UFC in fact the only chatter I have heard has been on Twitter and MMA websites,” offered Poirier. “I haven’t directly talked to anyone about it so I guess it’s still up in the air as to who will get the next shot. It’ll be a fun fight to watch and I think Erik is a great fighter, but I think Aldo will definitely keep his belt.” On what to expect tomorrow when he faces Chan Sung Jung: “Fans can expect everything from me on Tuesday night, even the kitchen sink,” Poirier said while laughing. “It’s going to be a war; it’s going to be an incredible 25 minutes. I’m excited to test myself and I know this will make me a better fighter. We’re going to go in there and rise to the occasion. I’ve been watching video of him every morning, he’s an animal. I love his aggression when he gets hit he wants to hit you back twice. He keeps moving forward, we are the main event for a reason and I plan on showing the UFC they made the right decision placing me in this position.” Be sure to check out the full article at the link above for more from Poirier and be sure to tune in Fuel TV or be sure to check with MMAFrenzy for full fight-night coverage. UFC on FUEL TV 4 fight card gets Dillashaw-Lee, Assuncao-Tamura and Cariaso-Ferguson

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently announced a trio of mixed martial arts (MMA) matches that have been added to the UFC on FUEL TV 4 event that will take place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif., on July 11, 2012. Two Bantamweight bouts -- T.J. Dillashaw vs. Vaughan Lee and Raphael Assuncao vs. Issei Tamura -- and a Flyweight showdown between Chris Cariaso vs. Josh Ferguson will be featured on the promotion's fourth effort on FUEL TV this summer. Dillashaw, The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 14 runner up, scored his first win inside the Octagon over Walel Watson earlier this year, while Lee -- who stunned Japanese legend Norifumi Yamamoto with a submission victory in his most recent outing -- will also look to keep his win streak alive. Assuncao is fresh off a decision win over Johnny Eduardo, which pales in comparison to Tamura's recent devastating first round knockout finish of Tiequan Zhang at UFC 144. Cariaso, meanwhile, will make his 125-pound debut against Ferguson, who has yet to register an official UFC win thanks to his submission loss to Roland Delorme at TUF 14 Finale late last year. UFC on FUEL TV 4 will feature a Middleweight main event of Mark Munoz vs. Chris Weidman with the number one division contender position in the 185-pound division on the line. A Light Heavyweight bout that pits Brandon Vera vs. James Te Huna is also expected to take place in the "Shark Tank" on fight night, as well as a potential Lightweight war between Anthony Njokuani vs. Paul Taylor. The UFC on Fuel 2 event drew 197,000 viewers on Fuel TV. This is a bit lower than UFC on Fuel 1 which drew 217,000 viewers, but higher than the two FX card preliminary shows that have been aired on Fuel. Considering the show was on early, that's not too bad. It's still tiny compared to FX or Spike broadcasts, but that was to be expected.

UFC on Fuel TV 2 Ratings See Slight Dip to 197,000 Viewers

The second event in Fuel TV history took place this past weekend in Stockholm, Sweden, an event which saw native Alexander Gustafsson defeat Thiago Silva in the main event. The first event in Omaha, Nebraska took place in February, and drew 217,000 viewers. Saturday’s event saw its numbers fall, with the average number of viewers dropping a tad to 197,000. The main reason for the drop is likely due to the time difference, with the event kicking off around 1230 PM on Saturday afternoon on the east coast. The main card began at 3 PM on Fuel TV, with most live events taking place around 9 or 10 PM. Regardless, Fuel TV has remained satisfied with the numbers the channel has registered since the UFC’s deal with Fox began late last year. The channel, which actually launched in 2003, has seen its ratings increase significantly since it began to air UFC programming. The channel has also begun broadcasting in over 6 million more homes since the beginning of the year. The next UFC on Fuel TV event, aptly named UFC on Fuel TV 3, takes place on May 15th in Fairfax, Virginia. The headlining bout is a featherweight matchup between Dustin Poirier and Chan Sung Jung aka “The Korean Zombie”.

Video: Jake Shields still contemplating move to middleweight, will know within the next week or two

"I'm just trying to lift a lot of weights, eating a lot, gaining a little weight. I'm putting a few pounds on, just gotta make sure it's the right kind of weight. I imagine within the next week or two I'll have a for sure answer (on a possible move to middleweight)." Just last month it was announced on UFC Tonight on FUEL TV that former welterweight title contender Jake Shields would be moving back up to the middleweight division, where he once ruled the roost over in Strikeforce. But apparently that announcement was a bit rushed, as Shields reveals just last night that he's not quite sure on whether or not he will compete at 170 or 185-pounds his next time out. He did say he expects to know for sure within the next week or two. Which division would you rather see him in, Maniacs? Welterweight or middleweight?

Video: Jon Jones Defeats Lyoto Machida at UFC 140

With the UFC’s deal with Fox, the organization has been able to broadcast all sorts of programming, including airing full pay-per-view events on Fuel TV. Recent events that took place in 2011, such as UFC 135 and UFC 136, have been broadcast on the channel in the past month. Also airing on the channel is UFC Unleashed, which has long been a programming staple for fans looking to relive recent fights. One such fight that recently aired was the light heavyweight title fight between champion Jon Jones and challenger Lyoto Machida. The battle took place at UFC 140 in December 2011 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. Jones, who was coming off of a win over “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 135 in September, was looking to defend his belt for the second time. Machida, the former champion, earned the title shot after defeating Randy Couture at UFC 129 in April. Machida gave Jones perhaps the toughest test he has faced since becoming a top contender in the UFC, as he enjoyed some success in the first round. That success soon ended, as Jones was able to turn the fight around, eventually defeating the Brazilian via guillotine choke late in the second round. Watch the video posted by Fuel TV, as they show the highlights of the second round, which eventually ended with Jones maintaining his title with the victory.

UFC 147's Chael Sonnen exposes MMA liars, says he doesn't fib to media (Video)

For better or worse, another edition of "Chael's Corner" aired this evening (April 3, 2012) on the latest episode of "UFC Tonight" on FUEL TV. And the misleading former -- and current -- number one Middleweight contender, Chael Sonnen, dished on a familiar subject, which is the art of verbal misdirection. Examples? When mixed martial artist (MMA) fighters say, "I don't want to leave it in the hands of the judges," what they really mean is, "I didn't train to go three rounds." Or, when they say, "I need to go to training camp to be in seclusion," what they really mean is, "My wife and kids are driving me nuts." He's got a good point. Two, actually. But, one has to wonder what an intelligent fighter is really thinking when he declares that the most prolific champion ever in the history of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Anderson Silva, should be "fired" and who he can "drag out of a hotel" at anytime and beat him up (even though he already lost a real fight inside the Octagon). What's the true message behind a so-called "plain-talking" straight-shooter who has dished so many outlandish statements over the years, dragging his Brazilian rival -- and his proud nation -- through the mud for the sake of promotion, that he felt compelled to offer a real fake apology on television. What does it all mean? WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN? Perhaps we'll know for sure at the conclusion of the UFC 147 main event this summer, but don't hold your breath.

With MMA running full-speed, 'UFC Tonight' crew quickly finding its stride

In the control room where "UFC Tonight" is assembled in real time and later committed to digital record for FUEL TV, there hangs a sign tucked in the corner behind banks of editing equipment. Were that sign updated for 2012 and MMA, a fourth rule might be added: Be faster.

UFC On Fuel 2: Lil Nog Out With A Knee, Thiago Silva In To Face Alexander Gustaffson

The scheduled main event of UFC on Fuel 2 card to be held in Stockholm, Sweden on April 14th had a switcheroo, as the UFC officially announced today: Following a knee injury suffered in training for his April 14th bout against Alexander Gustafsson, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira has been forced to withdraw from the UFC on FUEL TV main event in Stockholm, Sweden. Stepping in for Lil' Nog will be another hard-hitting Brazilian, Thiago Silva, who is returning to the Octagon for the first time since January of 2011. Thiago Silva will return to the cage for the first time since being suspended for using a banned substance that was detected by a urine test after his fight against Brandon Vera at UFC 125. The victory-at-the-time was converted to a No Contest and Silva was suspended for a full year. The replacement fighter here is actually fairly decent, despite the long lay off. The main event should remain competitive, as well as being a litmus test for the standing of either light heavyweight in the shuffle caused by the losses of Phil Davis and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.

UFC 144: 'Rampage' Jackson misses weight for Ryan Bader fight, forfeits 20-percent of purse

Quinton Jackson just couldn't resist that two dollar fried chicken at the local 7-Eleven. The UFC 144: "Edgar vs. Henderson" weigh-in event took place tonight (Fri., Feb. 24, 2012) in Japan, and "Rampage" broke the scale when he came in at 211-pounds for his light heavyweight bout against Ryan Bader, who was on point at 205-pounds. Jackson was interviewed by UFC color commentator Joe Rogan after weighing in but, curiously enough, his weight didn't come up during the course of the brief conversation. Maybe Rogan was playing it safe after they beefed in the media recently. Later, though, Jackson spoke on FUEL TV and revealed he suffered through injuries during his training camp that didn't allow him to run and do the cardiovascular conditioning his used to. And while he wouldn't reveal the details of what exactly his injury was, he did say he cut as much as he possibly could. Thankfully, the fight will go on, as Jackson will forfeit 20-percent of his purse to Bader, who accepted the bout at a catchweight. What's a few extra pounds amongst enemies, right? Dana White goes after Mayweather

UFC head Dana White went after boxer Floyd Mayweather, Jr. during his “Presidential Address” on Tuesday night’s edition of “UFC Tonight” on Fuel TV. White called Mayweather ‘racist’ for his twitter comments related to Jeremy Lin. Here’s the video which was sent out in a release last night: Mayweather’s manager, Leonard Ellerbe, responded to White’s comments (via Yahoo! Sports): “He needs to shut the [expletive] up and mind his own business, stay in his own lane and keep on taking advantage of the UFC fighters, while underpaying them,” Ellerbe told Yahoo! Sports after learning of White’s rant. “If he keeps on running his mouth, we may decide to give a free seminar to all of the UFC fighters on how the pay-per-view revenue should be distributed. This is typical Dana, who is always prone to ignorant outbursts. He should be the last person to try to judge someone else.” White responded to these comments by telling Ellerbe to mind his own business and that, “We’re (Zuffa) building a sport while you guys are destroying one. ” Payout Perspective: Before we get into the substance of the comments, I think its notable to point out that the comments were made as part of UFC Tonight on Fuel TV. The “Presidential Address” was sent out to media to promote the show. Its an interesting way to take advantage of White’s vlog/twitter rants. Certainly, he’s opinionated and his Mayweather comments have received attention. As for the comments, White is a longtime boxing fan and was speaking his mind on the situation. Whether or not you agree with the comments, so was Mayweather. In fact, Mayweather’s twitter comments about Lin have propelled him back into the spotlight during a quiet time before his fight with Miguel Cotto May 5th. So, perhaps both White and Mayweather are one in the same. Both are receiving notoriety for being themselves.

UFC on FUEL TV medical suspensions and injuries for 'Sanchez vs Ellenberger' in Omaha

The Nebraska State Athletic Commission today issued its list of medical suspensions for the UFC on Fuel TV: "Sanchez vs. Ellenberger" event, which took place on Weds., Feb. 15, 2012, from the Omaha Civic Auditorium in Omaha, Nebraska. Not much here to report. Of the 18 fighters booked to throw down at the network-televised event, only four were given mandatory vacations when all was said and done (via MMA Weekly), including Ronny Markes, who busted up his hand in a split decision win over Aaron Simpson. Markes will be riding the bench until his physician gives him the green light to continue. Also earning some time off were Vagner Rocha, Phil De Fries, and Dave Herman, who were all finished by way of (T)KO in their respective bouts. UFC on Fuel TV featured a thrilling three round main event between Diego Sanchez and Jake Ellenberger. While "The Dream" was able to keep himself awake against the power-punching "Juggernaut," the hometown hero proved to be too much for the former Ultimate Fighter and took home the unanimous decision win. Spike TV Does Well With UFC On Fuel TV Counter-Programming

The UFC had their first live Fight Night on Fuel TV this past Wednesday. The ratings for the event were great -- for Fuel TV. The Jake Ellenberger vs. Diego Sanchez headliner drew 315,000 viewers and the whole show averaged 217,000 viewers. Both those stats are records for Fuel TV whose previous biggest shows were live UFC preliminary bout coverage for UFC on FX 1 on Jan. 20 and UFC on Fox 2 on Jan. 28, averaging 148,000 and 144,000 total viewers, peaking at 237,000 and 212,000. But the reality is that many UFC fans either don't get Fuel TV or don't know the UFC has left Spike TV. Spike aggressively counter-programmed UFC on Fuel TV with a marathon of old UFC fights featuring Diego Sanchez. According to the OC Register they did very well, averaging 678,000 viewers. Spike TV has the rights to their UFC library through the end of 2012. They are expected to begin broadcasting Bellator Fighting Championships in 2013. Bellator is currently on MTV 2. UFC on Fuel TV 1 Makes Fuel TV Ratings History

Following the UFC’s event debut on Wednesday with UFC on Fuel TV 1, Fuel TV officials have announced that Fuel TV enjoyed the highest ratings of the channel’s history. The event averaged 217,000 viewers throughout the three hour program. The event peaked near the end of the event, with the third round of the main event between Jake Ellenberger and Diego Sanchez, which brought in 315,000 viewers. Wednesday’s event comes just three months after the UFC’s debut on FOX, and less than one month than the debut on FX. Fuel TV has hosted preliminary card fights for both UFC on FX 1, which averaged 148,000 viewers, and UFC on Fox 2, which averaged 144,000 viewers. Since the debut on Fox in November, Fuel TV has increased from 30 million subscribers to 36 million. “We fully expected the UFC was going to deliver Fuel TV extraordinary ratings, and now we’re seeing it,” said George Greenberg, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Fuel TV. “We are beyond ecstatic about the audience and the impact the UFC is having on our network’s growth thus far. The sky’s the limit on where this network can go from here.” Wednesday’s event in Omaha, Nebraska was the first of six events to be featured on Fuel TV in 2012. The next scheduled event on Fuel TV will take place on April 12th in Stockholm, Sweden. The card is headlined with a light heavyweight matchup featuring Sweden’s own Alexander Gustafsson taking on Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.

UFC on Fuel 1: 217,000 viewers

TV Sports Ratings tweeted the ratings for UFC on Fuel 1 Wednesday night scored 217,000 viewers. It was the UFC’s first live event on Fuel TV. The ratings come during Fuel TV’s free preview week which should have helped with the number. In comparison, UFC’s first two prelims shows on Fuel grabbed 148K and 144K viewers. (h/t MMA Supremacy). Payout Perspective: Good ratings for a live, mid-week fight card. Certainly, the free preview helped out but the numbers can be seen as promising for the UFC on Fuel. UFC on Fuel: Ellenberger vs. Sanchez Real Time Results

The day and network may have changed but the excellent action inside the Octagon should remain the same, as the UFC is poised to deliver a live event on Fuel TV for the first time in the organization’s history (not to mention a Wednesday). UFC on Fuel: Ellenberger vs. Sanchez is headlined by streaking welterweight Jake Ellenberger looking to build off his memorable knockout of Jake Shields by taking out original Ultimate Fighter champion Diego Sanchez. The winner is expected to move within snatching distance of divisional contendership, though picking a potential victor is a coin-flip at best based on the hard-nosed, well-rounded style of each. The show also features heavyweights Stefan Struve and Dave Herman duking it out in a co-headlining collision. As always, Five Ounces of Pain will be tuned in and delivering live results back as they unfold from Omaha. Things start on Facebook at approximately 6:15 PM EST with the main card hitting Fuel TV at 8:00 PM EST. Read below for a full list of UFC on Fuel 1 outcomes: Tim Means vs. Bernardo Magalhaes Buddy Roberts vs. Sean Loeffler Anton Kuivanen vs. Justin Salas Jonathan Brookins vs. Vagner Rocha Ivan Menjivar vs. John Albert T.J. How many fights a year are planned for Fuel TV?

Like many people, my cable carrier offers Fuel as part of a Sports Package add on for about $10 a month. To be honest, Fuel would be the only new sports channel i would watch and i would only watch it for the UFC. I would like to know how much content they will offer so i can determine whether or not it's worth the upgrade. Also, does anyone know of any legal streaming options for fans who do not have Fuel TV? submitted by Rory_B_Bellows [link] [2 comments]

UFC On Fuel Is A Smart Strategic Trade-Off

Yesterday our own Fraser Coffeen made the case against the UFC broadcasting live fight events on Fuel TV. His argument essentially boiled down to saying that because relatively few fans have Fuel TV (compared to Spike TV or FX), that it devalues the UFC brand by training fans to not mind missing some cards. I disagree strongly. While its not ideal to air a UFC card on a cable station with ~36million subscribers rather than the ~100 million or so subscribing to Spike TV or FX, it's a smart strategic trade off that will only strengthen the UFC brand over the long term. First off, Fuel TV is virtually the UFC channel already. The station is airing UFC weigh-ins, some preliminary fights, multiple UFC post-fight an analysis shows and is expected to air the Brazilian season of The Ultimate Fighter. This is programming that would only be available to a handful of UFC fans without the Fuel deal. The fact that this inexpensive and easily produced programming is getting great ratings for the network is just a bonus. Fuel TV executive vice president and general manager George Greenberg spoke to MMA Fighting last week about the ratings the UFC is getting on the network: "To say I'm jacked would be putting it mildly," he said. When it comes to more specific numbers, Greenberg said that recent UFC on FUEL pre- and post-fight shows have fluctuated between 35,000 and 75,000 viewers. And during live fights on FUEL, as many as 250,000 have tuned in to witness the action. ... "If you want to compare it to a platform like Spike three times our size, I can't help that," he said. "But I can tell you, If you look at the FOX ratings and last FX ratings for the fight, and you look at what it's done to this place percentage-wise, we are absolutely killing it." And if you don't think Fuel TV is a big step up from Facebook, check these numbers from Dave Meltzer's Wrestling Observer (subsription required): The prelims on Fuel did a 0.35 rating and 144,000 viewers. That's roughly the same as the Fuel prelims did on 1/20 before the show that aired on FX. When UFC has had fights on Facebook, they averaged about 30,000 viewers so it's a big step up. With the exception of Ben Henderson vs. Clay Guida, which peaked at more than 120,000, no prelim fight in history on Facebook had ever topped 65,000. Secondly, the UFC's strong performance on Fuel gives the promotion a very strong card in their relationship with Fox. Fox wants Fuel TV picked up by more cable providers. Having the UFC content not only boosts Fuel's ratings, it gives the channel a built-in activist base that is contacting their cable providers and asking for the station. That's big and is a big plus for the UFC in their relationship with Fox, especially when they're struggling to provide big headliners for Fox. All-in-all, it's not perfect, but nothing is. UFC on Fuel is a win for fans, the network and the promotion. SBN coverage of UFC on Fuel TV More Bloody Elbow coverage of UFC on Fuel TV after the jump. How To Watch UFC On Fuel TV Live Tonight

There have been a lot of inquiries to our writers as to what methods are available to watch UFC on Fuel TV tonight. The show is main evented by a very solid bout between Diego Sanchez and Jake Ellenberger, but Fuel's limited availability has many fans worried that they'll miss the action. To start, the evening's undercard will stream on Facebook with the UFC currently listing the start time for the action as 6:20 p.m. ET. That stream is as easy as going to the UFC's Facebook page and giving it a like. For the evening's main card, the action will be available on Fuel TV only, with no online stream. While normally that would mean massively decreased numbers over regular live UFC events, Fuel is having a free preview week. For information on the free preview weekend there is a page set up by Fuel. In addition to current providers which offer Fuel such as DirecTV, Dish Network and Verizon FiOs offering the station without having to pay for an upgraded package, they also list participating providers such as Comcast, AT&T UVerse, Charter and Time Warner Cable. It does seem that there are actually only a small segment of those carriers airing the free preview, however. Chicago, Denver, Atlanta and Boston area Comcast customers have all informed me that they are not getting the free preview. But the markets that already carry Fuel (a limited number of Comcast markets..etc) are airing the free preview. It appears that even with the free preview only roughly 43 million households will have access to Fuel. If you fall into a situation where Fuel is not available, you can always check the official UFC list of bars that show their events and get out of the house and do something with yourself. Feel free to share your provider, area and if you have access to the Fuel show tonight in the comments. Fuel TV to offer over 100 hours of UFC coverage during free preview this week

We are a little over two months into the UFC’s seven year deal with the FOX television families and one of the biggest complaints about the deal is the fact that Fuel TV is not readily available to many fans of mixed martial arts. UFC on Fuel TV: ‘Sanchez vs. Ellenberger’ Preview – The Undercard

Here’s a conundrum for you: This Wednesday night is UFC on Fuel TV: “Sanchez vs. Ellenberger”, which, of course will air on Fuel TV – a channel about eleven people in the world have access to.  And, unlike the past bouts that have been broadcast on Fuel TV and on FOX Deportes concurrently, that doesn’t seem to be the case this time around.  The main card is only being shown on Fuel TV.  However, the prelims for this event will be shown on Facebook.  So it seems as if, in some perverse twist of reality, there’s going to be a UFC event were the preliminary bouts attract more eyeballs than the main card itself.  (Remember: I don’t have Fuel TV; therefore, my eyeballs will be on my computer monitor, then on the punching bag at the gym later that night.)  What then to do about a preview?  Dare I prognosticate on a roster where I’ll only be able to post a live play-by-play on the bottom half of a card?  Ah, what the heck, why not.  Some of you out there will be checking out the prelims on Facebook, and maybe even a few of you out there in the Land of Oz, Middle Earth and Neverland have access to Fuel TV and can watch the main card.  If that’s the case, consider this a very special gift just for you. -Ivan Menjivar vs. John Albert – Albert crapped out of TUF 14 when he went up against eventual winner John Dodson, but that doesn’t mean he sucks at fighting.  It just means that he sucks when it comes to fighting on reality television.  (Actually, Albert TKO’d Dustin Pague at the TUF 14 Finale, so he really does have some skill and ability.)  Menjivar, meanwhile, has been fighting so long, he’s one of the few fighters out there eligible to compete and collect Social Security checks (which is weird because he lives in Canada) at the same time.  Therefore, the crux of this matchup can be summed up in one sentence: Young buck ex-TUFer takes on veteran old schooler for no marbles whatsoever.  By virtue of being younger and hungrier, I give the edge to Albert and could see him pulling off the decision.  Or I could see Menjivar squeaking by like he did against Nick Pace.  -Vagner Rocha vs. Jonathan Brookins – Brookins won TUF 12 handily with the help of his tight, albeit somewhat shallow, jiu-jitsu game, then dropped one to Erik Koch.  Jiu-jitsu black belt Rocha caught a beatdown from Don Cerrone in his UFC debut, but rebounded with a no-nonsense submission over one-dimensional TUF never-was Cody McKenzie.  What we have here, then, is a pairing between two strong grapplers who aren’t too comfortable slugging it out – which probably means we’ll be subjected to three rounds of uncomfortable slugging it out that inspires no one to take up jiu-jitsu for its “completeness as a style”.  I don’t envision Brookins taking Rocha’s back and choking him out, even though that’s his modus operandi, and I don’t envision Rocha winning any positional games.  No, this is going to play out on the feet, one tentative jab at the air at a time. -Buddy Roberts vs. Sean Loeffler – A King of the Cage champ and product of the West Coast scene, the middleweight Loeffler is making his debut sporting the ability to nail submissions and score knockouts.  Roberts is making his first venture into the Octagon as well, and as a product of Team Greg Jackson, he should be well-prepared.  As Roberts leans more towards the striking end of the spectrum, this one has the potential to be a good standup conflict… or it could be a lesson in nervous man-huggery against the cage.  Either way, it could be entertaining for what it is, and I see Loeffler having the advantage based on experience alone.  Watch for him to take the decision. -Anton Kuivanen vs. Justin Salas – Hey, another pair of newcomers, only these two are lightweights.  Kuivanen is supposedly some hot potato grappling specialist from Finland (as if that means something – Finland isn’t exactly tearing up the MMA world).  Salas, on the flipside, is a former Division 1 wrestler who’s grinded out wins against UFC vet Rob Emerson and a bunch of guys you’ve never heard of.  Do the Finnish even know what wrestling is?  I have no clue, but regardless, Kuivanen better be prepared to work from his back, ‘cause that’s where Salas is putting him. -Tim Means vs. Bernardo Magalhaes – Magalhaes is a Brazilian who’s spent his career fighting in Australia, which is kind of weird when you think of it, and akin to, say, an American spending his entire career fighting in the Finland scene.  Anyhoo, Means is a King of the Cage champ, too, and favors busting dudes in the face.  I can’t really say how this one will turn out, as being a top fighter in Australia means diddly-squat when it comes to fighting here in the States, but if I had to pick a winner, I’d say Means takes the decision.  Being a KOTC champ does have quantitative value.

UFC on Fuel conference call highlights with Fuel TV Vice President George Greenberg

Since signing a major network deal with FOX, Fuel TV has been making the transition into the UFC channel, featuring weigh-ins, UFC Primetime, Best of Pride, preliminary fights and much, much more. Starting next week, Fuel TV will become a "must-have" channel for all UFC fans. Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will be making it's official event debut on Fuel TV this upcoming Wednesday night (February 15, 2012) with UFC on Fuel TV: "Sanchez vs. Ellenberger," from Omaha, Nebraska. In advance of the big event, George Greenberg, the Vice President of Fuel TV, participated in a special media conference call earlier today to field questions about ratings, the channel and plans for the future between UFC and Fuel TV. We've got some select quotes from Mr. Greenberg, including his thoughts and expectations after the jump. On changes for Fuel TV "We've changed the demographic base from 12-34 and moved on to 18-49. We're gonna broadcast over 2,000 hours in 2012 and the following year could see as much as 2,500 hours of UFC-themed broadcasts." On ratings and expectations "We've had an 80 percent increase in the target demographic of men ages 18-49, and a near 230 percent increase in overall primetime ratings from past ratings periods. To say I'm jacked would be putting it mildly." On why they're holding the event mid-week "This worked best for the UFC as far as scheduling fights. For us, the night of the week really doesn't matter. We've got a preview with an additional 8 million cable homes plugged in. This is our coming-out party." On gaining new subscribers "When contracts come up, that's when deals are renegotiated. With an additional 8 million homes next week, we're going to be able to reach 43 million people." On how UFC fans can help "If UFC fans unite...you can make a huge impression on your satellite or cable provider. It's gonna get easier as time goes on. I realize it's frustrating because of all the quality events that are out there right now...In all the sports I've been around, I haven't seen a more loyal, more passionate fan base than UFC fans." On comparisons to Spike TV "If you want to compare it to a platform like Spike three times our size, I can't help that. But I can tell you, If you look at the FOX ratings and last FX ratings for the fight, and you look at what it's done to this place percentage-wise, we are absolutely killing it." So, Maniacs. Are you one of the lucky eight million people who will be receiving the free preview week of Fuel TV? What do you think of the UFC's foray into Fuel thus far? Sound off!

FUEL TV exec: Preview weekend adds 8 million homes, UFC spiking numbers

A free preview week set to coincide with the UFC's first fight card broadcast on FUEL TV will bring to 43 million the number of homes in which the channel is available, a FUEL TV executive today told MMAjunkie.com. But even with the current subscriber base, which stands at 36 million, FUEL TV is "jacked" about ratings drawn by UFC programming. "Percentage-wise in primetime, we're actually killing it," said George Greenberg, FUEL TV's executive vice president and general manager. "Our target audience of men 18-49 since January, it's up over 80 percent. Our primetime viewers are up almost 230 percent."

Dana White Talks Next Fights for UFC Champs St-Pierre, Silva, and Jones

UFC President Dana White discussed the next fights for UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, middleweight champ Anderson Silva and light heavyweight champion Jon Jones with Fuel TV following Friday’s UFC on FX 1 event. Jones is expected to headline April’s UFC 145 event in Atlanta with his challenger decided by next Saturday’s UFC on Fox 2 main event between Rashad Evans and Phil Davis. If Evans beats Davis and isn’t injured he’ll earn a long awaited matchup with his former teammate Jones, while Dan Henderson would likely challenge Jones for the belt if Davis wins. The next shot at Anderson Silva will be on the line when Chael Sonnen and Michael Bisping square off at UFC on Fox 2, but Sonnen has expressed doubts that Silva will rematch him after nearly dethroning him in their first meeting in 2010. However, White “guaranteed” that Silva would fight Sonnen again this summer should he beat Bisping next Saturday and that the matchup would likely take place at a soccer stadium in Silva’s home country of Brazil. Finally, Georges St-Pierre’s recovery from knee surgery is well ahead of schedule and the welterweight champion could return as early as this summer, especially if Nick Diaz claims the interim title over Carlos Condit at UFC 143 early next month. Dana White clears the air following UFC on FX: Guillard vs. Miller

As only he can, UFC President Dana White made things crystal-clear on a number of subjects following UFC on FX: Guillard vs. Miller Friday night. Speaking with Ariel Hellwani for the UFC post-fight show on FUEL TV, White made it known that he is happy with how Melvin Guillard acts, that Chael Sonnen will face Anderson Silva if he defeats Michael Bisping despite Sonnen talking Jon Jones/Georges St. Pierre, and the UFC heading to Atlanta is not a done deal – yet. On the Sonnen-Silva II front, Sonnen claimed in an interview Friday that if he defeated Bisping at next Saturday’s UFC on FOX 2 card, “The Spider” would not agree to fight him. Instead, Sonnen said he would go after the UFC light heavyweight or welterweight championship. “I, 100 % right here, now, guarantee that if Chael Sonnen wins that fight, Anderson Silva will fight Chael Sonnen this summer,” said White, who added that it is possible the bout would go down in Brazil. Tonight Is The Last Time You’ll See Jorge Rivera Fight

If you’re a Jorge Rivera fan, you might want to find a way to watch the UFC on FX 1 prelims on FUEL TV tonight because it’s going to be the last time you see him fight. Reason being Rivera announced on MMA Junkie radio today that he is retiring tonight whether he wins or loses to Eric Schaefer on the UFC on FX 1 preliminary card. “I’ve thought about this for a long time,” Rivera said. “If I would have won my last fight, I would have walked away. But that’s not how it worked out, and I just told myself I would leave no matter what happens. “It’s time to go. I’m starting to feel like that old man in the club trying to pick up chicks. It gets a little creepy after a while.” “I’ve had a great time,” he said. “I absolutely love the fans. I love everything about this job. It’s going to be hard to be away from it. And I hope to be back cornering somebody else, but this will be the last time I fight.” Sadly, Rivera says he does have a lot of regrets about his UFC career. He wishes he would have took his training more seriously and never realized the opportunity he had in front of him until it was too late. Nevertheless, Rivera has the chance to go out with a win tonight, a rare occurrence in professional sports, and taste the sweet thrill of victory one last time. Image via Dave Mandel for Sherdog

Report: Back injury could force Kenny Florian into early MMA retirement

Uh-oh. Boston Herald today printed some bad news, reporting that Kenny Florian may possibly be forced into early mixed martial arts (MMA) retirement because of a lumbar herniated disk in his lower back. The former three-time number one championship contender's orthopedist and a neurologist apparently agreed of the recommendation. Florian, who was last seen in action on Oct. 8, 2011, at UFC 136 in Houston, Texas, contending for Jose Aldo's Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight title, has suffered from back problems in the past, but Florian reportedly re-injured it in November while lifting weights. As a result, Florian has been dealing with tingling and numbness in his right leg. Hear what "Ken Flo" had to say about the possibility of retiring from the sport he loves the jump: "It's possible, unfortunately. I've kind of been going back-and-forth with some of the doctors, so it's possible. I'm going to see. As of right now, obviously I can't compete and train like I was at all. I'm just kind of doing what I can and hoping that things heal up and get better. I'm just kind of in a holding pattern. That's why I decided to do this commentary for the time being and take this next six months to really heal up and try to make some money on the side. It sucks. The last couple of months I've just been figuring out what's going on and what I'm going to do." When not competing inside the Octagon, Florian has moonlighted as co-host for ESPN's "MMA Live" and currently for "UFC Tonight" alongside Todd Harris on Fuel TV. A career that may become his full-time job sooner rather than later: "It's not good. That's why I'm trying to stay hopeful. We'll see. I've been out here in (Los Angeles) doing this show every week for ‘UFC Tonight' for Fuel TV and doing some other things. I'm just hoping that it can heal up and get better and then see if I can go back to doing what I was doing. So far, I still need to rest. If I go to do something physical, I'm just not able to do it. That pain is coming back." Florian, 35, made his way into the UFC via The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 1, losing to Diego Sanchez in the middleweight Finale. He has since competed 17 times, amassing a 12-5 record in the world-famous eight-walled cage. Should Florian be forced to leave the sport, he will do so not having held UFC gold, a goal he has strived for since debuting with the promotion in 2005. Florian has contended for the UFC lightweight championship twice and the promotion's featherweight title once, coming up short on all three occasions against Sean Sherk, B.J. Penn and Jose Aldo. Here's hoping to a speedy recovery and a successful return. Stay tuned to MMAmania.com as further details of Florian's career- threatening back injury become available.

Kenny Florian Has Career-Threatening Back Injury

The Boston Herald broke some rather somber news today. Kenny Florian has a herniated disc in his lower back that could very well end his career. According to the report, Florian sustained the injury during a weight lifting session in November, expecting it would get better, but it hasn’t. The “tingling and numbness down his right leg” has prevented him from training and the two doctors he has met with recommended that he retire. The news is obviously discouraging, but Florian is trying to maintain a positive outlook. “It’s possible, unfortunately,” Florian said of his career ending. “I’ve kind of been going back-and-forth with some of the doctors, so it’s possible. I’m going to see. As of right now, obviously I can’t compete and train like I was at all. I’m just kind of doing what I can and hoping that things heal up and get better. I’m just kind of in a holding pattern. That’s why I decided to do this commentary for the time being and take this next six months to really heal up and try to make some money on the side. It sucks. The last couple of months I’ve just been figuring out what’s going on and what I’m going to do.” “It’s not good,” Florian said. “That’s why I’m trying to stay hopeful. We’ll see. I’ve been out here in (Los Angeles) doing this show every week for ‘UFC Tonight’ for Fuel TV and doing some other things. I’m just hoping that it can heal up and get better and then see if I can go back to doing what I was doing. So far, I still need to rest. If I go to do something physical, I’m just not able to do it. That pain is coming back.” Florian had planned to return to the lightweight division after making a run at the featherweight title, but that’s all up in the air now. Other fighters such as Tito Ortiz and Shane Carwin have been able to extend their careers with back surgery, but it’s unclear if that could be a potential solution for Florian. If not and this is really it, Florian at least has a career in broadcasting to fall back on. He was a regular analyst on ESPN MMA Live, dabbled in color commentary for the UFC and WEC and currently co-hosts the UFC Tonight show on FUEL TV. It’s not fighting, but certainly not a bad way to make a living for a former fighter. Image via Esther Lin for MMA Fighting

Dana White: The Ultimate Fighter Brazil Will Air on Fuel TV

Dana White was on ESPN 1100 in Las Vegas and dropped some very interesting news about programming. The Ultimate Fighter Brazil is set to air on Fuel TV according to the UFC president. Via MMA Fighting: "The UFC has so much content that even Spike, if you look at what a huge percentage of their content we used to be, we still needed more," White said. "The Ultimate Fighter Brazil will air on Fuel TV. All this unique content that we're doing in other parts of the world, Fuel TV is going to take. I've been saying for the last six months, if you're a UFC fan and you really love the UFC, it's impossible not to have Fuel." It will be interesting to watch the show and see how much they stick to the formula of the American broadcast for the international seasons or if each will have its own distinct flavor. The season is set to be coached by Brazilian MMA stars Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva.

Ultimate Fighter Brazil Expected to Air on Fuel TV

Filed under: MMA Media Watch, UFC, NewsThe first international season of The Ultimate Fighter will be available on American television. UFC President Dana White said on ESPN 1100 in Las Vegas that although the UFC isn't ready to make an official announcement yet, the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil is slated to air on Fuel TV, which White hailed as one example of why the UFC's new television deal with fights on Fox, FX and Fuel is a major plus for UFC fans. "The UFC has so much content that even Spike, if you look at what a huge percentage of their content we used to be, we still needed more," White said. "The Ultimate Fighter Brazil will air on Fuel TV. All this unique content that we're doing in other parts of the world, Fuel TV is going to take. I've been saying for the last six months, if you're a UFC fan and you really love the UFC, it's impossible not to have Fuel." It's not yet known whether the Brazilian season of the UFC's reality show will be taped in advance, as past seasons have been, or whether fights will be shown live, as the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter on FX will be. The UFC has announced that Wanderlei Silva and Vitor Belfort will coach against each other on the Brazilian reality show and then fight against each other at the end of the season, and the Brazilian season will conclude with a live Ultimate Fighter Finale, just as the American show always has. And American fans will be able to watch it all, if they're in the minority of households that have Fuel TV. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

Fuel TV Boasts Ratings for New Year’s Day UFC Marathon & “UFC Tonight” Debut

Fuel TV officially kicked off the new year by airing a 24-hour UFC marathon on New Years Day, followed by airing the debut of “UFC Tonight” on January 3rd.  The UFC programming greatly improved Fuel TV’s usual poor ratings for comparable time-slots. From Multichannel: Fuel TV’s New Year’s Day 24-hour marathon of UFC programming helped the network generate its highest watched primetime block ever, said network officials. The UFC programming — part of a seven-year deal between the mixed martial arts outfit and Fuel TV owner Fox Sports– also generated the second most watched day in network history, with the network’s total day average up +378% vs. the January 2011 Sunday average, according to Fuel Tv officials. Fuel TV had its highest-watched Primetime night ever, up +493% vs. the 2011 Sunday average. The top show of the day was UFC Bad Blood at 7:00 p.m. ET. It was the fourth most-watched show on Fuel TV among Households since the network became nationally rated. MMAJunkie has the ratings for the “UFC Tonight” debut on Fuel TV: This week’s series debut of “UFC Tonight” earned 39,000 viewers on FUEL TV, MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed with industry sources. That’s nearly three times FUEL TV’s usual audience size, which averaged approximately 15,000 viewers in 2011. … Still, FUEL TV remains a premium-subscription option on many cable platforms, and officials face an uphill battle in expanding the channel’s reach. A well-produced “Countdown to UFC 141″ special, for example, garnered just 15,000 viewers for its debut and 1,000 viewers for a subsequent replay – despite the Dec. 30 event being one of the UFC’s biggest shows of 2011.   Payout Perspective: It’s a step in the right direction for both the UFC and Fuel TV, but it’s apparent that this partnership will need to blossom within the next few years in order to benefit the UFC. The end game for Fuel TV is to get the UFC and MMA fanbase to pressure cable/satellite providers to carry Fuel TV in order to continue increasing the reach of the lowest rated cable network in 2011. The next key date for Fuel TV will be February 15, when UFC on Fuel TV makes it’s debut from the 10,000-seat capacity Omaha Civic Auditorium in Nebraska. Diego Sanchez and Jake Ellenberger are set as the main event while Dave Herman and Stefan Struve will meet in the night’s co-main event . … Notes from the press releases: - NYE UFC Marathon: Generated the second most watched day in network history, with the network’s total day average up +378% vs. the January 2011 Sunday average. - NYE UFC Marathon: Fuel TV had its highest-watched Primetime night ever, up +493% vs. the 2011 Sunday average. - NYE UFC Marathon: The top show of the day was UFC Bad Blood at 7:00 p.m. ET. FUEL TV's New Year's Day UFC marathon 'scores a ratings KO'

You never get a second chance to make a first impression. Luckily, for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the first impression of its new television partnership with FUEL TV (via FOX) was a good one. And then some. In August 2011, the UFC signed a seven-year deal with FOX, making it the flagship network of the mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion, which went into full effect on Jan. 1, 2012. The very first "unofficial" sampling of what this marriage would look like came on Nov. 12, 2011, when Junior dos Santos defeated then-heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez at UFC on FOX 1 in Anaheim, California. Though FUEL TV played a minor role in the UFC on FOX 1 build-up, the network featured 24 hours of action-packed UFC programming to kick off the New Year. So, just how well did the UFC on FUEL TV marathon do from a numbers perspective? Check out the ratings after the jump: Here are some key points (from an official press release distributed earlier today): Sunday, January, 2012 was the second most-watched day in network history with Total Day average up +378% vs. the January 2011 Sunday average. FUEL TV had its highest-watched Primetime night ever, up +493% vs. the 2011 Sunday average. The top show of the day was "UFC Bad Blood" at 7:00 PM ET. It was the fourth most-watched show on FUEL TV among Households since the network became nationally rated. George Greenberg, FUEL TV's Executive Vice President and General Manager, felt that the New Year's marathon was the first step of many exciting steps to come for the partnership: "FUEL TV's New Year's Day Marathon of UFC programming was essentially Day 1 of FOX's seven-year relationship with the UFC. We are confident that this exceptional and powerful programming, our cross-network promotional strategy, along with a great working relationship with UFC management, will continue to drive growth for UFC and FUEL TV over the long term." FUEL TV is certain to play a pivotal role in the future, regarding how MMA fans see the UFC on television. On Feb. 15, the first-ever UFC on FUEL TV fight card will showcase a "dream" headline fight between Diego Sanchez and Jake Ellenberger, LIVE from CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Nebraska. In 2012, FUEL TV will telecast more than 2,000 hours of UFC programming, with more than 100 hours of live fights, weigh-ins, preliminary bouts, and pre and post-fight shows. In fact, in 2012, FUEL TV will offer more UFC programming than any network has ever offered. No hard feelings, Spike TV.

Brian Stann vs. Alessio Sakara Slated for UFC on FUEL TV in Sweden

Brian Stann will look to get his career back on track when he meets heavy-handed Alessio Sakara at UFC on FUEL TV on April 14 in Stockholm, Sweden. News of the bout was first reported by MMANytt late Wednesday night, and later confirmed by Stann on Twitter. Stann (11-4) had his three-fight winning streak snapped when he lost via second-round submission to Chael Sonnen at UFC 136. The loss marked Stann's first as a middleweight since dropping down from light heavyweight in 2010. By the time Sakara (15-8, 1 NC) returns to action, it will be more than 13 months since he last fought inside the Octagon. The Italian-born Sakara lost a unanimous decision to Chris Weidman at UFC Live on Versus 3 last March and hasn't fought since. That loss also snapped a three-fight winning streak for the veteran "Legionarius." Also expected for the event, which will take place at the Ericsson Globe Arena in Sweden, is Papy Abedi vs. James Head, DaMarques Johnson vs. John Maguire, and according to MMAnytt, Magnus Cedenblad vs. Francis Carmont, Cyrille Diabate vs. Jorgen Kruth and Besam Yousef vs. Simeon Thoresen. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

Chael Sonnen has his own show airing tomorrow on Fuel TV and you didn't even know...

How much would we truly know about the physics of smack-talk if Chael Sonnen didn't exist? He's the truest purveyor in the art of slinging adjectives while simultaneously crushing egos. Sonnen has bullied an entire country by bending everyone's reality to favor his own career progression -- and it's remarkable. Chael Sonnen is also a firm believer that Brock Lesnar was robbed in his UFC 141 fight with Alistair Overeem. By Chael's logic, your universe doesn't exist. Everything you can experience in your life is a product of Chael's inspiration -- so we should all be thankful. Fortunately for us, Fuel TV has granted Chael Sonnen his own television show called 'Chael's Corner' airing tomorrow (January 3rd 2012) and here's the preview for it.

Kenda Perez Maxim photos featuring the UFC on Fuel TV host

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Octagon girl Brittney Palmer may be whipping them out for an upcoming issue of Playboy, but that doesn't mean you have to wait until 2012 to see some of the promotion's hottest girls strutting their stuff (sans underwear). UFC on Fuel TV and "Best of PRIDE" host Kenda Perez was featured in the December 2011 issue of Maxim UK and as you can see from the above pic, PRIDE is hardly the best thing she's been hosting since bursting onto the fight scene a few years back. From Maxim: "The funnest part about being me right now is definitely all the traveling I'm getting to do because of my job with the UFC, and of course all the fights i attend! So far I've visited so many States throughout the country and even travelled across seas to London, Germany, Ireland just to name a few. I also have the future UFC overseas events to look forward to like Brazil and Japan! As far as what I would enhance in my life, that's tough because I have already done so much that I would never have imagined! All I hope for is continued success in my career and a blessed journey while I'm doing it." More after the jump. Thanks to MMA Maniac R.T. for the tip. Jay Glazer to host new UFC show on Fuel TV

MMA Junkie reports Fox Sport’s Jay Glazer will host a new television show featuring UFC fighters on Fuel TV as part of the new UFC-Fox partnership. “UFC Champions Roundtable” is set to debut on Fuel TV on November 9th. Fuel TV will also have pre and post fight shows for the big UFC on Fox event on November 12th. There is some concern that Direct TV subscribers may not see the show’s debut as Direct TV and Fox are involved in contentious negotiations related to the renewal of Fox’s contract with the second biggest distributor in the US. Direct TV has approximately 19 million subscribers. Despite the tough rhetoric on both sides, SBJ’s John Ourand does not think the blackout of Fox channels to last long. Ourand spoke to SB Nation’s Luke Thomas on October 21st regarding the dispute. When they go public, everybody goes crazy like I’m doing right now with this story but for your listeners who really are worried about seeing MMA on FX and MMA on FOX broadcasts, it almost certainly, if you get FX and FOX broadcasts and you’re a DirecTV subscriber now, it might go dark for a week, maybe two weeks but these types of disputes always get resolved especially with companies as big as FOX because they don’t want to lose all of FOX programming. Payout Perspective: If Ourand is correct, Glazer’s debut on Direct TV is in jeopardy and so is the hype on the Fox channels for UFC on Fox November 12th. The Fox-Direct TV dispute may not hurt the UFC in the long run because its likely that the blackout will not be prolonged. However, it could hurt the UFC short term, and likely during the most important time in the company’s history. Certainly, this weekend’s UFC Primetime on Fox helps with the promotion but the Fox blackout will definitely hurt UFC’s promotion as well as its transition over to the Fox networks.

Rampage Jackson, Jon Jones and a hot chick appeared on Fuel TV, no motorboating was involved

When I meet General Tso, I'm going to tell him thank you for all the years of his wonderful chicken. A huge LOL if you think those military guys actually saw any war. That battalion didn't do anything but stay in the kitchen and invent a perfect blend of sweet and spicy seasonings to drench chicken in. I'm assuming everyone in that squad was honorably discharged since they essentially gave birth to the modern Chinese buffet restaurant. Those guys were visionaries. They knew that all of the world's problems could be solved through glazed chicken and a quart of MSG. Rampage Jackson and Jon Jones could build a shrine to General Tso with empty dinner plates, but in the meantime both fighters are cutting weight for their upcoming UFC 135 bout. That is, cutting weight and making appearances on FOX affiliates. Check out this video of Page and Bones humoring it up on Fuel TV today. [Source]
