Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will hold a media conference call today (March 27, 2012) in advance of UFC 146 which will take place on May 26, 2012, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The conference call will begin at 1:00 p.m. ET. Scheduled to attend will be the headlining fighters for the evening: Junior dos Santos, Frank Mir, Cain Velasquez and Antonio Silva.
Dos Santos is the current UFC heavyweight champion, having gone an impressive 8-0 inside the Octagon. He captured the title from Cain Velasquez at the inaugural UFC on FOX event last November and is looking to defend his belt for the first time. His opponent, Frank Mir is the former UFC heavyweight champion. He stepped up in place of Alistair Overeem, who tested for elevated levels of testosterone and was denied his license after removing himself from the title bout.
Velasquez is the former UFC heavyweight champion. He suffered a shoulder injury after initially winning the title in October of 2010 and was handed his lone loss by dos Santos during his first title defense. Now healthy, he's hoping to earn his title back with a victory in the co-main event.
Antonio Silva is a former EliteXC heavyweight champion. His stock rose to absurd levels after his second round TKO victory against Fedor Emelianenko in the quarterfinals of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix, although he was brought back to Earth by Daniel Cormier via knockout in the semifinals. If he can beat the former champion, he'll be right back on top, if not higher.

The conference call will begin at 4:30 p.m. ET. Scheduled to attend will be the second half of the quarterfinalist fighters: Vinc Pichel, Chris Saunders, Al Iaquinta and Andy Ogle.
Al Iaquinta was the first pick of Team Faber and lived up to his billing by winning a pair of decisions, most notably defeating Myles Jury after having a third round forced. Chris Saunders pulled off a huge upset, sneaking past Sam Sicilia via split decision to advance to the quarterfinals.
Vince Pichel of Team Cruz had perhaps the best fight of the season thus far, earning a late submission victory over John Cofer while his opponent, Andy Ogle, also pulled off a huge upset, defeating the heavily favored Mike Rio via submission in their sweet 16 bout a few weeks ago..

The conference call will begin at 2:00 p.m. ET. Scheduled to attend will be the main and co-main event fighters of the evening: Josh Barnett, Daniel Cormier, Gilbert Melendez and Josh Thomson.
Barnett is a former UFC heavyweight champion and after years of exile, returned to America and has dominated the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix. He used his catchwrestling to submit both of his first two opponents, Brett Rogers and Sergei Kharitonov to advance to the finals. Daniel Cormier is a former Olympic wrestler out of Oklahoma State. He was a hotshot undefeated prospect who exploded onto the scene when he stepped in as an alternate for Alistair Overeem and knocked Antonio Silva out cold in the first round of the semifinals.
Melendez is the current Strikeforce lightweight champion and one of the top ranked 155-ers on the planet. He last defended his title against Jorge Masvidal and has battled Josh Thomson twice before, splitting a pair of very entertaining decisions. Josh Thomson is the former Strikeforce lightweight champion but injuries have plagued his recent career. He returned from a long layoff to decision K.J. The conference call will begin at 1:30 p.m. ET. Scheduled to attend will be the main and co-main event fighters of the evening: Jim Miller, Nate Diaz, Johny Hendricks and Josh Koscheck.
Miller is one of the top contenders for the lightweight title. He won seven fights in a row before dropping a bout to the current champion, Ben Henderson, last year. He came back strong to submit Melvin Guillard in the main event of the first UFC on FX event. His opponent, Diaz, dropped back down to 155 pounds last year and has looked amazing, destroying both Takanori Gomi and Donald Cerrone to instantly enter title contention.
Hendricks is a multiple-time national champion wrestler who, despite just one career loss, has had trouble breaking through. That was, until a 12 second knockout over perennial number two 170-pound fighter in the world, Jon Fitch, this past December, which instantly thrust him into the top contenders. His opponent, Josh Koscheck, came up short in a his 2010 title bid, but after healing from an orbital injury, has won his last two fights to get back into the mix.

Tuesday’s press conference from Rio de Janeiro to announce the move of the rematch between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen has been posted in its entirety. Also discussed were the move of Jose Aldo to UFC 147, Jon Jones vs. Dan Henderson possibly headlining UFC 149, along with insight on the next destinations for “Shogun” Rua and Lyoto Machida.
Watch the press conference in its entirety here:
As anticipated, the UFC has scrapped plans to hold Anderson Silva's championship rematch against Chael Sonnen in a soccer stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The blockbuster grudge match, which was originally booked for UFC 147 on June 23, has now been rescheduled to headline UFC 148 on July 7, 2012 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV. UFC President Dana White announced the switch at a press conference in Rio on Tuesday morning.
Previously, White cited difficulties obtaining a proper venue in Brazil due to a United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development booked for the same week. The conference runs from June 20-22 and lists 194 member nations among its attendees.
With Silva-Sonnen II shifted off the card, UFC 147 now features a middleweight match-up between The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil coaches Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva, the TUF: Brazil featherweight and middleweight finals, and a heavyweight bout between Fabricio Werdum and Mike Russow.
UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo may also be moved onto the card. Aldo is currently scheduled to fight a yet to be announced opponent at UFC 149.
A venue for UFC 147 has yet to be finalized. UFC officials originally targeted the Estádio Olímpico João Havelange, a colossal soccer stadium that could potentially seat upwards of 50,000 Brazilian fight fans.
While the press conference was pushed back from the original start time, that didn’t stop many from confirming that the rematch everyone has been waiting for has been shifted. A poster highlighting Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen 2 for the UFC middleweight title displayed UFC 148 on it in front of the stand. That means [...]
Leave it to the United Nations to go and muck up what could have been the biggest and most amazing fight crowd in the history of our sport. These guys can't even get something as simple as world peace correct so of course they would go and mess up something that could have been absolute magic for our sanctioned violence loving hearts. According to Dana White at the UFC 148 special press conference held in Brazil today, the Silva vs Sonnen rematch will not take place in a massive soccer stadium in Brazil and will now be hosted in Las Vegas on July 7th, 2012.
The United Nations has scheduled a huge conference in Brazil for the week of this fight and there is simply not enough hotel rooms or security available to host an event of this size at the time the UFC planned to bring this event to the country. According to Dana, Anderson was really upset that the fight was not going to happen in Brazil anymore and it took alot of talking, but Anderson finally agreed to take the fight in Las Vegas. During the press conference, Chael responded to the venue and location move with, "my plan was to come into your country, take your money and bring the belt back to America."
Las Vegas is considered "the fight capital of the world" so it is the next best location for a fight of this magnitude, but I can't help feeling a little bit bummed that we won't have another mega-dose of that same electric energy we experienced with UFC 142: Rio. Damn.
The past few days, there has been quite a bit of speculation that the rematch between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen will no longer be taking place at UFC 147 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. UFC President Dana White, Silva, and Sonnen will be taking part in a live press conference in Brazil to clarify what will be happening with that match and the entire event, which was planned for June 23rd at Estádio Olímpico João Havelange.
The press conference begins at 11 AM EST/8 AM PST.
Watch the entire conference below:
At the UFC 147 press conference, UFC president Dana White, UFC champion Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen will finally clear up if Silva vs. Sonnen 2 will be held in Rio or somewhere else.
The press conference is scheduled to be held at 10 a.m. ET. Check out the video below.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will today (April 24, 2012) hold a special public press conference in advance of UFC 147: Silva vs. Sonnen 2, which is tentatively scheduled to take place in Rio de Janeiro on June 23, 2012, although there have been reports to the contrary.
The press conference will begin at 10 a.m. ET from Brazil.
Scheduled to attend will be the planned main event fighters of the evening, Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen, as well as UFC President Dana White.
Silva is the current middleweight champion. He fought Sonnen back in 2010 in one of the year's most dramatic fights, withstanding over four rounds of wrestling to score a clutch fifth round submission victory to retain his title. He's since defended his belt twice, knocking out both Vitor Belfort and Yushin Okami.
Chael Sonnen has been one of the most controversial and magnetic fighters in the past few years. After losing his title shot and being suspended for high testosterone levels, he returned to defeat both Brian Stann and Michael Bisping to earn his rematch.

The fate of the other announced bouts for that card hang in the balance as well.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will today (April 18, 2012) hold a public press conference to promote this Saturday's (April 21, 2012) UFC 145: "Jones vs. Evans" event, which will air live on pay-per-view (PPV) from the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
The press conference will begin at 1 p.m. ET from downtown "Hotlanta."
Scheduled to attend will be the main event fighters of the evening, Jon Jones and Rashad Evans, as well as main card fighters Brendan Schaub, Ben Rothwell, Rory MacDonald and Che Mills. Hosting the press conference will be UFC commentator John Anik.
Jones is the current UFC Light Heavyweight champion, defeating former champs Mauricio Rua, Quinton Jackson and Lyoto Machida to both claim and defend the title in 2011. With Evans, he'll be looking to defeat his fourth straight former UFC light heavyweight titleholder. Oh, and there's some serious bad blood brewing between the two men.
His challenger, Rashad Evans, is the former UFC light heavyweight champion. Evans lost his title to Machida in 2009 and has been on the verge of getting it back ever since. "Suga" has been one of the unluckiest title challengers out there, routinely being in the wrong time at the wrong place which has delayed his quest to get his belt back. Now, the opportunity finally awaits.
And he'll have to battle a former friend and teammate to do it.

The UFC is having a banner year in Brazil. The debut Brazilian season of The Ultimate Fighter is doing great ratings on Brazil's biggest TV network. They've held two sell-out shows in Rio de Janeiro in the last 12 months and are booked to hold UFC 147 in a soccer stadium.
Unfortunately they are once again in danger of having to reschedule the event. Initially they wanted to hold UFC 147 featuring a middleweight title fight between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen in Sao Paulo but difficulties with noise ordinances scotched that plan. So they moved it to a soccer stadium in Rio despite having already worked that market twice and announced the event for June 23.
Now, according to UFC president Dana White, it appears that a United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development might force a rescheduling of the event.
"The problem is, they don't like the idea of us coming the same time this United Nations convention is going on," White said at a press conference following UFC on Fuel TV 2 in Sweden. "The other problem is hotel rooms. Most of the hotel rooms are being taken up. And we don't think, we know that the Anderson Silva-Chael Sonnen fight is one of the biggest sporting events this year, in the world."
"I think it's a huge sporting event," he said. "I think people will come to Rio from all over the world. I think we're going to need hotel rooms. Hopefully we'll get this thing done the next few days, one way or the other."
UFC 147 will not only feature the Middleweight title fight it will also see the coaches of TUF Brazil, Wanderlei Silva and Vitor Belfort, facing off in a rematch of their 1998 bout.
MMA Fighting has more:
The UFC is expecting to run their event at Estádio Olímpico João Havelange, a soccer stadium which will likely hold around 55,000 people when reconfigured for MMA.
The UN conference is a three-day affair which takes place from June 20-22. The event's website does not estimate an attendance for the conference, saying it will draw "thousands," but does list 194 member nations. That conflicts greatly with the UFC's hope of taking over the city that week for Silva-Sonnen.
Just another illustration of the immortal maxim, "mo' money, mo' problems."
If there is a silver lining it's this: the June 23 date was the day after the June 22nd UFC on FX 4 event in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Hopefully the rescheduled UFC 147 will fit more easily into the schedule although they don't have too much leeway as UFC 148 featuring a bantamweight title fight between Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber is expected to be booked in Las Vegas for July 7.
More SBN coverage of UFC 147
UFC President Dana White revealed that UFC 147 may have to be delayed during the UFC on Fuel TV 2 post-fight press conference. The June 23 event is currently scheduled to be in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The fight card is unfortunately only a day after the United Nations is scheduled to end their massive “United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development” in Rio De Janeiro or Rio+20. While the fight is expected to be huge in the MMA world, it is insignificant in comparison to the Rio+20 conference.
While Sao Paulo is roughly five hours from Rio, the huge UN conference is already huge burden on hotels, air travel, and security throughout the region. So the addition of one of the biggest MMA cards of the year would be a logistical nightmare for all involved.
Dana White had this to say regarding the matter:
“We’re waiting to hear back [from city officials], we’re trying to figure this whole thing out. The problem is that first of all they don’t like the idea of us coming at the same time as this United Nations convention’s going on, the other problem is hotel rooms. Most of the hotel rooms are being taken up,”
“We don’t think, we know, that the Chael Sonnen/Anderson Silva fight it’s one of the biggest sporting events this year in the world, so we need to make sure (there’s room) especially when you’re doing an 80,000-seat soccer stadium. There better be some hotel rooms… Hopefully, we’ll get this thing done within the next few days, one way or the other.”
The conference is expected to draw thousands of world leaders, private business executives, NGO leaders and other key world figures. Add in the additional people for the fairs, exhibitions, and side conferences, and you have a massive amount of people that will require most of the region’s resources.

As per usual, following the UFC on Fuel TV 2 post-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White held court with the media for a few follow-up issues.
Maybe the United Nations could bring peace between Chael Sonnen, Anderson Silva and the rest of the people of Brazil. The United Nations has scheduled a conference for June 20-22 in Brazil, which happens a day before the planned UFC 147 card featuring Sonnen-Silva II in the main event for the UFC middleweight title. In March, the UFC officially announced the date and location of the Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen rematch, but now the timing of the fight appears to be up in the air.
At a press conference following Saturday's UFC on FUEL event, UFC president Dana White confirmed that the date is no sure thing. In trying to finalize the show -- originally scheduled for June 23 -- the UFC has come up against some resistance because Rio happens to be hosting a United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development during the same week.
"The problem is, they don't like the idea of us coming the same time this United Nations convention is going on," he said. "The other problem is hotel rooms. Most of the hotel rooms are being taken up. And we don't think, we know that the Anderson Silva-Chael Sonnen fight is one of the biggest sporting events this year, in the world."

Ultimate Fighting Championships will today (April 13, 2012) hold a media conference call to promote next Saturday's (April 21, 2012) UFC 145: "Jones vs. Evans" event which will air live on pay-per-view.
The conference call will begin at 2 p.m. ET. Scheduled to attend will be the main event fighters of the evening: Jon Jones and Rashad Evans.
Jones is the current UFC light heavyweight champion, having defeated former champs Mauricio Rua, Quinton Jackson and Lyoto Machida to both claim and defend the title in 2011. With Evans, he'll be looking to defeat his fourth straight former UFC light heavyweight titleholder. Oh, and there's some serious bad blood brewing between the two men.
His challenger, Rashad Evans is the former UFC light heavyweight champion. Evans lost his title to Lyoto Machida in 2009 and has been on the verge of getting it back ever since. "Suga" has been one of the unluckiest title challengers out there, routinely being in the wrong time at the wrong place which has delayed his quest to get his belt back. Now, the opportunity finally awaits.
And he'll have to battle a former friend and teammate to do it.

Highlights from Tuesday’s UFC 146 pre-fight press conference featuring headliners UFC Heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos, #1 contender Alistair Overeem, as well as Frank Mir, Cain Velasquez, Roy Nelson, and Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva.

The Heavyweight fighters who participated at today's (March 27, 2012) UFC 146 press conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, got a little bit more than they bargained for at the conclusion of the promotional festivities.
According to MMA Fighting, Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) director, Keith Kizer, administered a random drug test on all fighters in attendance, which included Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos, Alistair Overeem, Cain Velasquez, Frank Mir, Roy Nelson and Antonio Silva.
"We brought the drug test to them instead of making them go to the drug test. If they were not in Las Vegas, I would need to find them a lab, which is of course, much more of a hassle."
Random indeed.
The report also states that the results may not be made available until well after UFC 146, which is set to go down at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 26, 2012. However, in the unfortunate case that results come back positive for any competitor, it could change the landscape of the first-ever UFC heavyweight pay-per-view (PPV) main card.
Oddly enough, one of the headliners, Overeem, was the centerpiece of a drug test fiasco prior to UFC 141 in which he was given a conditional license to fight, but had to follow strict guidelines handed down by the NSAC. Ultimately, "The Reem" passed all testing and went on to defeat Brock Lesnar at UFC 141 late last year via technical knockout and send him into mixed martial arts (MMA) retirement.
"Bigfoot," meanwhile, was popped for using steroids back in 2008, a finding that he vehemently denied.
No excuses this time, which is perhaps the true reason for the sneak attack.

Dos Santos is the current UFC heavyweight champion, having gone an impressive 8-0 inside the Octagon. He captured the title from Cain Velasquez at the inaugural UFC on FOX event last November and is looking to defend his belt for the first time. His opponent, Alistair Overeem is the former Strikeforce, Dream and K-1 World Grand Prix champion. He has not lost in four and a half years and handily defeated Brock Lesnar last December to earn his title shot.
Velasquez is the former UFC heavyweight champion. He suffered a shoulder injury after initially winning the title in October of 2010 and was handed his lone loss by dos Santos during his first title defense. Now healthy, he's hoping to earn his title back with a victory in the co-main event.
Frank Mir is also the former two-time heavyweight champion. He's currently riding a strong three fight winning streak over top competition which includes a dramatic comeback victory in which he submitted Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira last December and is also hoping to get his crack at the belt.

LAS VEGAS — After about the game's first five minutes, it became pretty clear that New Mexico was playing for something bigger than a Mountain West Conference tournament title.
On the game's first possession, sophomore sniper Tony Snell curled off of a screen on the right wing and cashed a contested, fading jumper. Then he hit a 3-pointer. Then Drew Gordon completed an old-fashioned 3-point play. The Lobos were up 8-1 early, dominating on the glass and winning just about every hustle point available.
They were fresher, deeper and, above all, hungrier. Thus, the 68-59 triumph over San Diego State on Saturday afternoon at the Thomas & Mack Center.
For years, Lobos coach Steve Alford has been one of the league's more vocal coaches when it came to the supposed advantage MWC power UNLV has of holding the conference tournament in its home gym.
But Alford left Las Vegas this weekend with a 27-6 record, a share of the MWC regular season title, his first conference tournament title and his second NCAA tournament berth in three years. In other words, he had nothing to be upset about.
"To come here and play the way we did for three days is a remarkable feat for our young men," he said afterwards. "I couldn't be prouder of a group of guys. I've said it all year long, I think they've gone under appreciated."
There was a reason for that.
After being picked as the preseason favorite in a stronger than expected Mountain West, unspectacular early season losses to New Mexico State and Santa Clara, then a 1-2 start in conference play, kept them from getting much love in the national polls. Then, after they won seven straight, capped by back-to-back victories over San Diego State and UNLV in late February, they finally cracked the Top 25 rankings.
Then, they lost back-to-back road games at Colorado State and TCU, thus squandering a two-game lead in the conference standings.
And now they're officially back on the radar just in time for the big stage.
They started their weekend by smashing an overwhelmed Air Force squad, then outlasted UNLV on Friday night in an epic, hard-fought semifinal. To end it, they had enough left in the tank to dominate San Diego State.
New Mexico led the Aztecs from start to finish, and everyone contributed, as Alford flexed every piece of his 10-man rotation.

Nate Diaz is the winner of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season five. After mixed results at lightweight, he had a 2-2 run at welterweight but seems to have finally advanced to an elite level after returning back to roots at 155 pounds. He's coming off a tremendous showing over Donald Cerrone and is poised to contend. His opponent, Jim Miller was the man at lightweight after seven straight wins in the division but was knocked off his pedestal by the current champion Ben Henderson last year. He bounced back in the main event of the first UFC on FX show and is hoping a victory over the younger Diaz brother can earn him a crack at the title and a shot at redemption.
John Hendricks had quietly gone 8-1 while competing under the Zuffa banner, but that all changed last December when he knocked out perennial number two welterweight on the planet Jon Fitch in just 12 seconds. Now, after toiling away on the undercard, he's got everyone's attention. His opponent, Josh Koscheck, failed in his attempt to win the UFC welterweight title but has won consecutive bouts since. If he can't earn another crack at the championship, he'll at least be looking to avenge his friend and former teammate John Fitch.
Al Belcher was on the verge of contention before a freak eye injury sidelined him for over a year. He returned last fall to crush Jason MacDonald and is hoping to regain his status against Rousimar Palhares.
Pat Barry is one of the UFC's most popular and lovable heavyweights. He's slowly progressed his overall skill-set and showcased some submission defense in his last fight, a first round knockout victory this past January. His opponent, Lavar Johnson, has some of the heaviest hands on the planet and he made an immediate impact in his UFC debut by doing something no one else had ever done, putting Joey Beltran to sleep with his fists. He'd love to do it again on the national stage this time. We'll have all the updates from the UFC on FOX 3 prefight press conference after the jump, as well as the LIVE video feed:

In the main event at Friday night's UFC on FX card, Thiago Alves will take on Martin Kampmann. The card also features the first two flyweight fights in UFC history, with Joseph Benavidez taking on Yasuhiro Urushitani and Demetrious Johnson taking on Ian McCall.
The press conference begins at 7 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday and the video is below.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will hold a public press conference TONIGHT (Feb. 29, 2012) in advance of UFC on FX 2: "Alves vs. Kampmann," which will take place this Friday (March 2, 2012) at the Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia.
The press conference will begin at 7 p.m. ET and will take place at The Star Sydney Hotels & Casino in Sydney, Australia. Scheduled to attend will be the headlining fighters of the evening, Martin Kampmann, Thiago Alves, Joseph Benavidez, Demetrious Johnson, Ian McCall and Yasuhiro Urushitani.
Kampmann is one of the top welterweights in the UFC. The Xtreme Couture fighter originally hailing from Denmark is always within reach of a title shot but he hasn't quite been able to get over the hump. He's hoping to get close once more if he can string together a few more really big wins and you don't get much bigger than Thiago Alves.
Thiago Alves is a former welterweight title contender. He fell on hard times both with making weight and in putting on good performances but has seemingly turned it all around after teaming up with Mike Dolce to help him get healthier and cut weight properly. After getting back on track in his last fight, he too is hoping to get back into the mix with a big main event victory.
Joseph Benavidez was in no-man's land at bantamweight after dropping two decisions to champion Dominick Cruz. He beat everyone else he was thrown against in the division, but the Team Alpha Male fighter could only play spoiler. He's extremely grateful for an opportunity to drop down to flyweight now and compete in a tournament for the title. His opponent, Yasuhiro Urishitani, is one of the best flyweights in the world. Hailing from Japan, he was the Shooto 123 pound champion before the UFC signed him.
Demetrious Johnson, despite being undersized, rose through the ranks defeating big name after big name and earned a title shot at bantamweight. He lost last October to Dominick Cruz via decision, but he put on a terrific showing and earned the respect of fans everywhere. He too, was grateful for an opportunity to drop down to 125 pounds. His opponent, Ian McCall, dropped down to flyweight in 2011 and took the division by storm. He defeated the then-number one ranked Jussier da Silva and then proceeded to win the Tachi Palace flyweight title. He's out to prove he belongs with the elite in the world.

Naturally, the two men who will compete for the lightweight title in the main event of the evening, Frankie Edgar vs. Ben Henderson, were also on the scene to promote their 155-pound clash, as well as face off for one last time prior to fight night (Sat., Feb. 25, 2012) in the "Land of the Rising Sun."

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will hold a public press conference TONIGHT (Feb. 22, 2012) in advance of UFC 144: "Edgar vs. Henderson," which will take place this Saturday (Feb. 25, 2012) at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.
The press conference will begin at 11 p.m. ET and will take place at Ritz Carlton Grand Ballroom in Tokyo, Japan. Scheduled to attend will be the headlining fighters of the evening, Frankie Edgar, Ben Henderson, Quinton Jacson, Ryan Bader, Jake Shields and Yoshihiro Akiyama.

Edgar is the current UFC Lightweight champion, having twice defeated B.J. Penn in 2010 to win and defend the belt. He showcased his pure heart in coming back twice in consecutive fights against Gray Maynard last year earning a draw and closing out the trilogy with a fourth round knockout to make a statement.
His challenger, Henderson, is the former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) lightweight champion. He's been on a torrid run in the UFC thus far, defeating the likes of Mark Bocek and then knocking off top contenders Jim Miller and Clay Guida to earn his shot at UFC gold.
"Rampage" Jackson is the former UFC light heavyweight champion. He's been up and down since losing the title to Forrest Griffin and is most recently coming off a defeat via the hands of Jon Jones in a failed attempt to reclaim the 205 pound belt.
Bader was once considered one of the best 205-pound prospects in the UFC. After a very promising undefeated start to his career, he was derailed by Jon Jones and then completely stunned by Tito Ortiz. "Darth" Bader got back on track with a quick first round knockout in his last fight and will be right back in the thick of things if he can knock off the aging former Light Heavyweight champion.
Shields and Akiyama are two very experienced grapplers, as Shields' American jiu-jitsu and Akiyama's judo prowess have helped them have tremendous success. Both men are currently on multi-fight losing streaks, however, and are hoping to turn things around in this welterweight scrap.

Strikeforce will today (Feb. 21, 2012) hold a media conference call to promote next Saturday's (March 3, 2012) Strikeforce: "Tate vs. Rousey" event which will air live on Showtime.
The conference call will begin at 1 p.m. ET. Scheduled to attend will be the main event fighters of the evening: Miesha Tate and Ronda Rousey as well as Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker.
Tate is the current Strikeforce women's bantamweight champion, having defeated veteran Marloes Coenen to capture the title late last summer. "Takedown" is one of the strongest female wrestlers in MMA and will be looking to legitimize herself as champ with her first title defense.
Her challenger, Ronda Rousey, is a reigning Judo Olympic bronze medalist. She transitioned to mixed martial arts after Beijing and hasn't looked back, winning all four of her professional fights (and all three amateur bouts) inside the first minute via armbar. She talked her way to the title and has become an MMA media darling in the process.
Rousey talking her way to the title doesn't sit well with Tate, who was hoping to defend her belt against former champion Sarah Kaufman, the last woman to defeat her. This should make things interesting on today's call.
We'll have complete updates of the Strikeforce: "Tate vs. Rousey" conference call after the jump:

Yesterday saw the official press conference for UFC 145, an event which sees the long awaited light heavyweight championship bout between Jon Jones and Rashad Evans. The trash talk between the men was clicking as most expected it to be with the way the rivalry between the two men has built over the last year.
Here is the video of the presser:
MMA Fighting has some notes from the conference:
"I'm going to be cliche and say I'm going to go out there with great intentions and train really hard and just have fun," he said. "I realize when I have fun great things happen. Magical things happen."
But as he finished his thought, Evans interjected, saying "What do you really think, though?"
"You remember what I told you," Jones said.
"I remember what you told me, but I remember you didn't mean it," Evans said.
Some rowdy fans in the crowd yelled out, asking Evans what Jones said, and Evans mimicked Jones nervously saying, "Rashad, I'm going to be the first one to finish you in the first round...," stuttering his way throughout the less-than-flattering imitation.

With a name like that, it should come as no surprise that former Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz is taking on ex WEC 170-pound titleholder Carlos Condit in the night's main event. As with every press conference, they face off at the end and try to psyche each other out.
Not sure anyone can out-mug Diaz, but "The Natural Born Killer" sure gives it his best shot.
Also squaring off were main card fighters Josh Koscheck and Mike Pierce as well as Roy Nelson and Fabricio Werdum. Their staredown pics can be found after the jump.

Ultimate Fighting Championship will hold a public press conference today (Feb. 2, 2012) in advance of UFC 143: "Diaz vs. Condit," which will take place this Saturday (Feb. 4, 2012).
The press conference will begin at 4 p.m. ET and will take place at the Mizuya Lounge inside Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, the home city of the event. Scheduled to attend will be the headlining fighters of the evening, Nick Diaz, Carlos Condit, Roy Nelson and Fabricio Werdum.
Nick Diaz is the former Strikeforce welterweight champion who crossed over to the UFC after two title defenses in 2011. After losing a title shot due to failure to make media appearances, he instead battled UFC legend B.J. Penn in the main event of UFC 137, destroying him in the final two rounds to win a unanimous decision. He again was scheduled to fight Georges St. Pierre but an injury got in the way and now he'll battle Carlos Condit for the interim belt.
Carlos Condit has long been one of the most exciting fighters in mixed martial arts today. Think about it, has he had one fight in the UFC thus far that wasn't amazing? From his debut against Martin Kampmann to his tremendous display of heart against both Jake Ellenberger and Rory MacDonald to his violent knockouts of both Dan Hardy and Dong Hyun Kim, he is the literal interpretation of "The Natural Born Killer." He's been delayed repeatedly before getting a shot and we'll see how he handles the big time with this bout.
Roy Nelson was on the verge of a title shot before back to back losses to Junior dos Santos and Frank Mir set him so far off course people were talking about cutting him. The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season 10 winner got back on track with a stoppage of Mirko Filipovic in his last fight, displaying a trimmer physique and a bitching beard. We'll see how he handles the lanky Muay Thai and jiu-jitsu stylings of Fabricio Werdum on Saturday.
Fabricio Werdum was a top talent in Pride and after losing his UFC debut, was on the verge of title contention after stoppage victories against Brandon Vera and Gabriel Gonzaga before showing up overweight and getting pasted by Junior dos Santos in "Cigano's" UFC debut. Outside the UFC, Werdum scored tremendous victorious over Fedor Emelianenko and Antonio Silva before dropping a decision to Alistair Overeem in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix. He's getting a second chance to make a good first impression this time around. We'll have complete updates of the UFC 143 press conference after the jump:

Saturday night’s UFC on FOX 2 post-fight press conference had a different feel to it, as those in attendance seemed to have nothing but respect for each other.
Main event fighters Rashad Evans and Phil Davis were joined by Chael Sonnen, Michael Bisping and others, minus UFC President Dana White who was attending to other duties.
The attendance was announced at 17,425 with a gate of $1.2 million.
As expected, Sonnen dominated the majority of the questions during the early-portion of the press conference, which actually starts in the video below at the 33-minute mark. Sonnen, who defeated Bisping, was complimentary of the Brit, saying, “I was surprised about everything. Michael Bisping hit me so hard in the first round, I didn’t even remember what day it was.”

You should definitely block away a little time to watch today’s UFC on FOX 2 pre-fight press conference if you missed it earlier. It was entertaining to say the least. Rashad Evans and Phil Davis repeatedly got into it, especially after Rashad told Davis his wrestling technique was “trash.” Not an easy task, but Chael Sonnen managed to do a better job at promoting the event than Dana White did. Michael Bisping even slipped in a shot at Sonnen’s fake belt, telling him he can “shove it up his ass… He ain’t fighting Anderson Silva.” And those were just the highlights of the highlights. Check out the full press conference above.

The UFC on FOX 2 pre-fight press conference will stream live in the video player above at 2pm ET. Rashad Evans, Phil Davis, Chael Sonnen, Michael Bisping, Demian Maia and Chris Weidman are expected to attend.
Ultimate Fighting Championship will be holding a public press conference today (January 26, 2012) in advance of the promotion's second major network event, UFC on Fox 2: "Evans vs. Davis" which is scheduled to take place this Saturday, January 28, 2012.
The conference will begin at 2 p.m. ET live from W Chicago in Chicago, Illinois, the home city of the event. Scheduled to attend will be the headlining fighters of the evening: Rashad Evans, Phil Davis, Chael Sonnen, Michael Bisping, Demian Maia and Chris Wiedman.
Rashad Evans is the former UFC light heavyweight champion and recently came back from significant time away to defeat Tito Ortiz in the main event of UFC 133. He's been the de facto number one contender for over a year now but injuries have kept him from challenging for the belt.
He'll be challenged by Phil Davis, an undefeated UFC prospect who was a four time NCAA Division I All-American wrestler and 2008 national champion. He currently holds a spotless MMA record and is looking to take it to the next level by battling Evans, the man he was originally slated to fight at UFC 133 before injuries got in the way.
Chael Sonnen has made as much of a name for himself with his gift for gab as he has with his talent in fighting. The mouthy ex-realtor gave Anderson Silva his toughest test in the UFC to date and has been clamoring for another shot. His opponent, Michael Bisping rose to the occasion when Mark Munoz went down with an injury. The Brit is riding a four fight winning streak and the winner will be earning a crack at the 185 pound title.
Demian Maia is one of the strongest and most dangerous Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioners in the UFC. While the submissions haven't been coming lately, he has won three of his last four including a dominant top control victory against Jorge Santiago his last time out. His opponent, Chris Weidman, is one of the most promising middleweights in the UFC. He stepped up on extremely short notice and will be putting his undefeated record on the line in what is a huge leap forward in competition for the former All-American wrestler out of Hofstra.

Watch the Friday, Jan. 20, UFC on FX 1: Guillard vs. Miller post-fight press conference live on MMAWeekly.com, shortly after the main event's conclusion.
Ultimate Fighting Championship will be holding a media conference call today (Dec. 7, 2011) in advance of the promotion's second major network event, UFC on FOX 2: "Evans vs. Davis" which will take place next weekend on Saturday, January 28, 2012.
The conference call will begin at 2 p.m. ET.
We'll have complete updates of the UFC on FOX 2 conference call after the jump.

Aldo is the current UFC featherweight champion. The rising Brazilian star defended his title twice in 2011 with unanimous decision victories over Kenny Florian and Mark Hominick. He's hoping to ring in the New Year with his first UFC finish.
His opponent, Chad Mendes, is undefeated and finally feels he's ready for his moment to shine. "Money" Mendes has had his way with everyone put in his path, from Michihiro Omigawa, RanI Yahya to fellow top contender Erik Koch. The Team Alpha Male fighter is hoping his wrestling will help him win the title.
Vitor Belfort is coming off an emphatic first round knockout of the hardheaded Yoshihiro Akiyama. He came up short in 2011 in his UFC middleweight title bid, and he's hoping a victory here, plus one over fellow Ultimate Fighter Brazil coach Wanderlei Silva will give him one more shot.
Belfort's opponent, Anthony Johnson, is making the move to middleweight at least for now. Long heralded as the largest welterweight on the UFC roster who cut the most weight, "Rumble" will actually be two inches taller than Belfort with a four inch reach advantage. He's riding a two fight winning streak and could become a contender in either division with a victory.

His opponent, Alistair Overeem, is one of the scariest heavyweights on the planet. The Dutch kickboxer has not lost an MMA fight since 2007 and left Strikeforce as the promotion's heavyweight champion. In his spare time, he also won the single night K-1 Heavyweight Grand Prix to become a kickboxing champion last year.
Cerrone has been on fire in 2011, winning four straight bouts in the UFC lightweight division to become a contender in the promotion. His opponent, Nate Diaz, was the winner of The Ultimate Fighter season five and looked terrific in his last fight, destroying Takanori Gomi in his return to 155 pounds.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship will be holding a public press conference today (Nov. 17, 2011) in advance of Saturday night's UFC 139: "Shogun vs. Henderson" event.
The conference will begin at 4 p.m. ET live from the Fort Mason Center's Golden Gate Room in San Francisco, California, the although the event will be held in San Jose..
Scheduled to attend will be UFC president Dana White and headlining fighters of the evening: Mauricio Rua, Dan Henderson, Wanderlei Silva and Cung Le.
"Shogun" Rua is the former UFC light heavyweight champion and recently avenged his first UFC loss with a destruction of Ultimate Fighter season one winner and fellow former champion Forrest Griffin at UFC 134 in Brazil.
He'll be challenged by Dan Henderson, the former simultaneous multi-divisional champion of Pride who was crowned the Strikeforce light heavyweight champion earlier this year. Henderson is coming off a monumental knockout victory over Fedor Emelianenko this past July and signed with the UFC afterwards.
Wanderlei Silva has fallen on hard times after a legendary run in Pride although he's still a fan favorite in the UFC. He was recently stopped short by the heavy-handed Chris Leben this summer and stepped up in place of the injured Vitor Belfort to take a fight against Cung Le.
Cung Le was the Strikeforce middleweight champion and possesses a very exciting arsenal of diverse strikes which helped turn him into a superstar in California. He's been distracted by a career in movies but a bout in his hometown and in the UFC was enough to call him back to MMA.

The UFC made its first appearance Saturday night on FOX Network since signing a multi-year, multi-million dollar deal with the television giant, as Junior dos Santos defeated Cain Velasquez for the UFC heavyweight title in the main event.
At the post-fight press conference, UFC Dana White gave his take on the fight, as well as his nerves in the days leading up to the actual event. Bonuses were also handed out to Dos Santos, Ricardo Lamas, Clay Guida, and top lightweight contender Benson Henderson for their efforts.
“Post-show I said I didn’t know why Cain wouldn’t have shot. Gone in for the shot, tried to work, pressure him, try and put him up against the fence. And not stay in his range and try and bang with Junior in the early rounds,” White explained of his criticism of Velasquez’s approach to the bout. “But what they hell am I? I’m not anybody’s coach or trainer. It was just my question about the fight.”

The ‘UFC on FOX 1’ live event was attended by 14,019 fans, according to numbers UFC president Dana White gave out at the post-event press conference....
"I'm back!", Brock Lesnar beckoned as he made his first public appearance since his surgery at the UFC 141 press conference. There were widespread rumors that he lost a bunch of weight, but as much as we can judge from seeing him here, the former heavyweight champion looked very much like his normal self.
Lesnar addressed these concerns during the conference, "What am I weighing now? I'm about 278 lbs," said the former heavyweight king, "Sorry for the disappointment."

"I avoided the surgery for as long as I could. It was just a major decision. When you've got to go under the knife and have someone take out our intestines, it's a big deal... I'm just trying to build confidence in my standup and be a well-rounded fighter. To come back and win this fight, and to win the UFC heavyweight championship back."

Ultimate Fighting Championship will hold a public press conference today (Nov. 11, 2011) to officially announce UFC 141: "Lesnar vs Overeem," which will take place at the end of the year (Dec. 30, 2011).
The conference will begin at 5 p.m. ET live from the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in Santa Monica, California, although the fight event will be taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Scheduled to attend will be UFC president Dana White, as well as the headlining fighters of the evening, Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem, who will be battling for the right to challenge for the UFC heavyweight title.
Lesnar is the former UFC heavyweight champion. The ex-WWE superstar and national champion Minnesota wrestler lost his title last year to current champ Cain Velasquez. He's had a much publicized battle with diverticulitis which was (hopefully) finally cured with surgery earlier this year.

"The thing with Nick Diaz is that he has a different mentality and believe me, I have known a lot of Nick Diaz's in my life and they come from a different place than me and you do, man. Nick Diaz is one of those guys that will get up and walk over there and slap you. He is one of those guys. So trying to contain Nick Diaz and trying to get him to hang out here in a press conference situation when you got somebody over there saying stupid sh*t to him... He's here today, he's here to fight, ask him questions about the fight. If you want him at the next press conference, don't start saying stupid sh*t to him."
-- Don't get slapped, homie. That's what UFC President Dana White told MMA Heat's Karyn Bryant yesterday after the UFC 137 press conference. The bossman has always been adamant about never wanting to change a fighter's personality, and Nick Diaz is no different. White was referring to a question asked by a reporter during yesterday pre-fight press conference in which he jokingly asked Diaz if he had to be locked in his room to keep from skipping town. Diaz jokingly played it off by saying he wasn't locked in, but rather brought down from his room an hour early. According to the UFC President, questions like that could result in a slap from the bad boy from Stockton. You've been warned! But will Diaz do some slapping tomorrow night (Oct. 29) when he squares off against B.J. Penn in the main event of UFC 137 in Las Vegas? Stay tuned!

Ultimate Fighting Championship will hold a public press conference today (Oct. 27, 2011) to promote this weekend's UFC 137: Penn vs. Diaz event, which is scheduled for Oct. 29, 2011.
The conference will begin at 4 p.m. ET live from The Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, the home city of the event.
Scheduled to attend will be UFC president Dana White, as well as the headlining fighters of the evening, B.J. Penn and Nick Diaz.
B.J Penn is one of only two multi-divisional champions in UFC history, having captured both the welterweight and lightweight titles in his time with the promotion. He's currently embarking on a career renaissance at welterweight, having won his trilogy with Matt Hughes and drew with number two ranked Jon Fitch earlier this year.
On the opposite side of the podium will be Nick Diaz, the former Strikeforce welterweight champion who vacated his belt to sign with the UFC and challenge Georges St. Pierre. The GSP fight was scrapped but Diaz is currently riding a 10-fight win streak, which includes three successful title defenses in Strikeforce. He wants to impress the UFC brass and earn a shot at UFC gold..
New co-main eventers Cheick Kongo and Matt Mitrione will also be in attendance . Kongo is coming off one of the craziest comebacks of 2011 against Pat Barry at UFC on Versus 4 earlier this summer while Mitrione has continued his undefeated streak, moving to 5-0 in the UFC with a recent second round knockout of Christian Morecraft at the same event.

Former Strikeforce welterweight champ Nick Diaz better get used to all these press conferences, conference calls, and other media appearances if he is going to be a successful fighter in the UFC.
After having a title shot with Georges St-Pierre taken away from him for missing several of those media events, Diaz showed up late to Wednesday’s conference call for UFC 137, an event he is now headlining alongside opponent B.J. Penn.
“Hey, how’s it going,” Diaz casually asked nearly 45 minutes after the call had started.
The Californian plead he case, stating he didn’t know that he was still needed for the promotional obligation due to St-Pierre being forced out of his fight with Carlos Condit just a day earlier due to a knee injury, mentioning he hadn’t been given any information from the UFC to suggest otherwise.
“”All I know is that somebody’s getting paid over a hundred grand just to tell me what I’m supposed to do and what I’m not supposed to do. And I’m like, for that much money, I think I could have had somebody standing around telling me, ‘Hey, you can’t miss this press conference. That kind of voids the whole contract, and then you’re out, and you get (screwed)…You make no money. So you have to be at this thing.’,” Diaz explained.
“I’m just gonna do what I always do and train, and when it’s time to fight, I go fight,” he continued. “And it’s really about me, it’s not about whatever’s going on in the world or who I’m fighting or who I’m not fighting. I’m not gonna really have a choice on that. My job is to fight, so I have to fight when I’m told to fight, and that’s what I do well.”
In Penn, Diaz will be facing a former training partner and someone he really didn’t want to meet inside the Octagon. “The Prodigy,” who has dealt with the wrath of UFC President Dana White himself, said he embraces the good and bad of Diaz.
“Nick is Nick, he’s gonna do what he does,” Penn said. “I enjoy watching the stuff that Diaz does. He doesn’t change, he’s always himself and that has nothing to do with me.”
Whether or not Penn will enjoy what he sees from Diaz on October 29 will be a completely different story and one appearance the outspoken Graciefighter will absolutely be showing up for.

The Nick Diaz Drama train continued to choo-choo along as Nick nearly missed yet another media event yesterday. You may recall Nick being in the main event against Georges St Pierre until getting demoted to co-main against BJ Penn after skipping out on two press conferences already. But yesterday was supposed to feature the new, responsible Nick. One that had 'an understanding' with Dana White:
“I don't see that happening again. He knows, we've talked. Seriously, I would be shocked if he didn't show up at another press conference and if he does, I don't even know what to say. I guess that would be the end of it,” White says.
Fortunately, we won't have to find out how final 'the end of it' would have been because Nick finally showed up 45 minutes later and gave us some of that pothead blabbity blah we love so much:
What? I didn't even know - what? I didn't even know about a call. That happened? Anybody know there was a call? Nobody called me in the past week or couple of days or anything or said there was a call. I trained last night, went home, got something to eat, went to sleep. Woke up, my phone was dead and then my brother's telling me I'm supposed to be on a call. I don't know anything about it....I've been doing the same, living the same since I started, since I was 17. You know, I live down the street from my parents who I used to live in the same house with. Now I live with my brother. And uh, I've got all these people, business people and big money people around me trying to make deals. I don't know anything about that. All I know is that somebody is getting paid over 100 grand just to, just to tell me what I'm supposed to do and what I'm not supposed to do. And I'm thinking for that much money, I could have had somebody standing around telling me, "Hey, uh, you can't miss this, uh, press conference. That kinda, you know ... that voids the whole contract and then you're out, you ain't gettin' shit. You ain't fighting' shit. You ain't makin' no money, so you have to be at this thing." It's simple. If I had read that shit over myself, I'd have been a little more cautious, and not been like, "Oh, I've got people, y'know, getting paid to tell me alright, you need to be here or there." If I didn't feel like I had that, I would have probably read that shit myself, and dealt with things myself, and been a little more cautious, and I probably would have showed up at that press conference, you know? But that's not the case you know ... um, you know?I'm in the gym training hard; I think that's what's important. I think we signed and made a deal, I think a deals a deal, you know what I mean? I don't know anything about, uh ... you know ... going back on that. That doesn't even, that never even came to mind. As far as I'm concerned, the people working for me that should have been there to tell me ... you know ... what's what. And I didn't have that like everybody else has.
Strange, I could have sworn he had that in the form of Cesar Gracie, the guy who seems to be doing 80% of the babysitting when it comes to Nick. I gotta give a shout out to Nate for picking up the extra 20% and getting Nick on this call. By sticking his head into Nick's room and going "Uuuuh press conference, bro", he probably saved his brother from dashing all chances of a GSP fight happening yet again.
Listen to the full audio from the UFC 137: Penn vs. Diaz media conference call, which included BJ Penn, Matt Mitrione, Cheick Kongo, and yes, even Nick Diaz.
Here’s the full audio from yesterday’s UFC 137 conference call via BJPenn.com. Nick Diaz comes on around the 37:45 mark if that’s what you’re looking for.
It was another wild and wacky day in the world of Nick Diaz. After famously being removed from the UFC 137 main event last month for no-showing two press conferences, many people were making jokes about Diaz not being on the line for today's conference call. And guess what? When it started, it was announced that Nick Diaz wasn't on the conference call and everyone was looking for him. It was a ludicrous beginning but it got very interesting later on because...he actually called in. And said no one had told him about the call until right then. Seriously.
Before Nick actually called in, it was just B.J. Penn and Matt Mitrione answering questions. Penn said he didn't mind Nick's antics and what matters is that he always shows up to fight. Mitrione said he's played football in front of 110,000 fans so co-main-eventing wasn't a big deal. No one even asked Cheick Kongo a question (poor Cheick). Then, the moment of glory - Nick Diaz called in. And his explanation for his tardiness was awesome (transcribed by MMA Nation):
"I didn't even know about a call," he said. "I woke up, my phone was dead and my brother told me that I was supposed to be on the call. I didn't get any notice. I didn't hear anything about it until about fifteen minutes ago.
"When should I have known about this press conference? Somebody should have gave me a call. I don't know who's talking to who. I didn't hear about it. Just like anything, I don't hear about this (expletive) until way late. I'm not sitting here on my thumbs waiting for a call, I'm waiting for training. I'm training hard, harder than these guys and that's why. That's what takes up all my time, training, becoming the best in the world."
Cesar Gracie, who knew about the call yesterday, said that he hadn't spoken to Nick since he found out. Apparently Nick's phone was dead and his brother Nate Diaz had to inform him that he was supposed to be on the phone. It seemed that the UFC might not have informed Nick directly, and Dana White at least corroborated some of that by tweeting "'I'm hearing UFC dropped the ball on the Nick Diaz no show today!! SUCKS" shortly before he called in. But Dave Sholler, UFC Director of Communications, says he had talked to Cesar Gracie about it. As usual when it comes to Nick Diaz, it was a weird and convoluted situation.
Once he was finally on the call he quickly went on a classic Diaz rant, and he also discussed his regrets for missing the September press conferences that cost him a title shot, while B.J Penn continued to say it was all amusing. You can catch that and more after the jump.

Here's Nick talking about regrets... or something:
"Of course I have regret," he shot back. "I regret I have people who are supposed to take care of stuff. I have a lawyer or whatever, people get paid something like 100 grand -- I don't know -- a ridiculous amount of money."
"I've got all these business people and big money people around me trying to make deals, and I don't know anything about that. All I know is that somebody is getting paid over 100 grand just to tell me what I'm supposed to do and not supposed to do, and I'm thinking for that much money, I could have had somebody standing around telling me, 'Hey, you can't miss this press conference. That voids the whole contract, and then you're out. You ain't gettin' (expletive). You ain't fighting' (expletive). You ain't makin' no money, so you have to be at this thing. It's simple."
On facing B.J. Penn:
No, I'm not happy about it at all. I'm fighting this guy who was my friend. I was supposed to fighting this other guy. That's kind of just how I feel.
On the highly-prized Strikeforce belt he currently owns:
I don't care about the Strikeforce belt. I never even put it on. B.J. can have it.
And on the push for a five-round fight that his manager was touting yesterday:
It's whatever. It's really not up to me. Either way is fine.
Even when he wasn't on the line, Diaz was the center of attention. Here's what the controversial welterweight had to say once he made it onto the phone.
With the MMA world still clinching their collective gut after having the wind knocked out of their sales with yesterday’s unfortunate news regarding Georges St. Pierre‘s injury and subsequent removal from UFC 137, the show must still roll on and so it will with BJ Penn and Nick Diaz serving as the October 29 event’s headliners.
Both welterweights, former training partners who originally preferred not to face off in the first place, will speak publicly for the first time since being bumped up to the top slot during a conference call scheduled for this afternoon at 2:00 PM EST. As always, Five Ounces of Pain will be tuned in and reporting results back live to readers.
Main card competitors Matt Mitrione and Cheick Kongo will also be on hand to discuss their heavyweight bout, as will Dana White to update fans on the status of GSP and field questions in general about the situation.

The UFC has a scheduled conference call at 2 p.m. ET today to promote UFC 137: Penn vs. Diaz. Headliners B.J. Penn and Nick Diaz are listed as particpiants in the UFC's press release, and new co-main eventers Cheick Kongo and Matt Mitrione have been confirmed for the call too. UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre and challenger Carlos Condit were supposed to participate as well, but an injury to St. Pierre's knee has forced him out of the bout and, probably, out of the conference call. The news may force UFC President Dana White, who tweeted that he was in New York City yesterday, to call in as well.
Follow Mike Fagan on Twitter for live updates. Check back to this post at 3 p.m. ET for a full recap of the proceedings.
UFC 137 has already gone through its share of turbulence. Diaz was St. Pierre's originally scheduled opponent, only to find himself removed from the main event after no-showing back-to-back press conferences in Toronto and Las Vegas. Condit was pulled from his co-featured bout with Penn to step into the main event. That left Penn without an opponent. The UFC decided not to release Diaz for his transgressions, and instead slotted him in against Penn in an attempt to ease him into the UFC's PR machine.
Just 10 days out from a pay-per-view event, The Ultimate Fighting Championship will be holding a media conference call to build up next Saturday's (October 29, 2011) UFC 137: "Penn vs. Diaz" event today, (October 19, 2011).
Scheduled to attend will be the headlining fighters of the evening: B.J. Penn and Nick Diaz.
B.J. Penn is the former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion. Since dropping his lightweight title in back-to-back bouts to current champ Frankie Edgar, he's gone 1-0-1 in a return to the welterweight division, destroying former champion Matt Hughes and drawing with conventional number two welterweight Jon Fitch earlier this year.
His opponent will be none other than Nick Diaz, who left Strikeforce as the promotion's welterweight champion and is currently riding a 10 fight winning streak. Diaz was originally offered a title shot but had it taken away after failure to show up at back to back press conferences. That original disappointment turned out to be a benefit when champion Georges St. Pierre suffered a training injury yesterday and pulled out of the UFC 137 main event. Diaz is now back into the spotlight.
We'll see how he handles the pressure.
We'll have complete updates of the UFC 137 media conference call after the jump.

The grand finale of the UFC‘s recent run of events is on the verge of unfolding live in the Lone Star State! Set for October 8 in Houston, UFC 136 will cap off a block of live shows including UFN 25, UFC 135, and UFC Live 6 and features a pair of title-fights rather than the standard single championship affair.
However, before lightweights Frank Edgar and Gray Maynard meet in the Octagon for a third time or Kenny Florian attempts to latch on to the gold eluding him at 155-pounds by beating Jose Aldo, the quartet will participate in a conference call this afternoon starting at 2:00 PM EST. The UFC on Versus 6 ‘Cruz vs. Johnson’ pre-fight press conference will stream live in the video player above at 1pm ET/10am PT. UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz, Demetrious Johnson, Stefan Struve and Pat Barry will be in attendance.
Though plenty of exciting events are set to take place before the end of the year, one of the cards clearly on the minds of most fans is the UFC‘s scheduled stop in San Jose on November 19 with a lineup boasting a bevy of former title-holders. Headlined by Dan Henderson‘s return to the Octagon against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, and also featuring human highlight reel Cung Le taking on Wanderlei Silva, UFC 139 is shaping up to easily one of the most anticipated shows of 2011 (and that’s without even mentioning Urijah Faber vs. Brian Bowles or Martin Kampmann vs. Rick Story).
One of the first legs of the two-month journey towards the HP Pavilion takes place this afternoon at 4:00 PM EST when Henderson, Rua, Le, and Silva take to the stage to promote the upcoming event. UFC President Dana White will also be on hand. As always, Five Ounces of Pain will be tuned in and ready to report back to readers with relevant information featuring highlights from the proceedings and soundbytes when possible.
Read below to see what the quartet of highly-skilled competitors had to say:
Dan Henderson:
*”I guess it’s ironic that every time I win a title somewhere, Dana has to buy the company to get me back.”
*Wasn’t excited about fighting anyone else in Strikeforce. Felt all the best fights for him were in the UFC.
*Prefers to fight at 205 because he hates cutting weight. Only fight he wants at 185 is Anderson Silva.
Mauricio Rua:
Cung Le:
*Has been training since February and is ready to fight.
Wanderlei Silva:
Dana White:
*”Dan and I get along fine…. I can’t hate him for knocking Fedor out, either. I’m happy to have him back.”

A special UFC 139 press conference takes place today, and you can watch a
live stream of the proceedings here on MMAjunkie.com at 4 p.m. ET (1
p.m. PT).
The press conference takes place San Pedro Square Market (175 West Saint
John St.) in San Jose, Calif., the host city of November's UFC 139 event.
Featured at today's presser are UFC president Dana White, UFC 139
headliners Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and Dan Henderson, and co-headliners
Cung Le and Wanderlei Silva.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship will be holding a public press conference today (Sep. 27, 2011) to officially announce the upcoming event UFC 139: "Shogun vs. Henderson" which is scheduled to take place later this year (Nov. 19, 2011).
The conference will begin at 4 p.m. ET live from the San Pedro Square Market in San Jose, California, the home city of the event.
Scheduled to attend will be UFC president Dana White and headlining fighters of the evening: Mauricio Rua, Dan Henderson, Wanderlei Silva and Cung Le.
"Shogun" Rua is the former UFC light heavyweight champion and is coming off a quick first round destruction of Ultimate Fighter season one winner and fellow former champion Forrest Griffin at UFC 134 in Brazil.
He'll be challenged by Dan Henderson, the former simultaneous multi-divisional champion of Pride who came up short with two title shots in the UFC before becoming the Strikeforce light heavyweight champion. Henderson is coming off a monumental knockout victory over Fedor Emelianenko this past July and returned to the UFC afterwards.
Wanderlei Silva was a legend in Pride and is still a fan favorite in the UFC. He recently had his run in the middleweight division stopped short by the heavy-handed Chris Leben and accepted a bout against Cung Le in place of the injured Vitor Belfort, staving off retirement for at least one more fight.
Cung Le was the Strikeforce middleweight champion and possesses a very exciting arsenal of diverse strikes which helped turn him into a superstar in California. He's been distracted by a career in movies but a bout in the UFC was enough to call him back to MMA.
We'll have complete updates of the UFC 139 press conference after the jump.

The UFC will hold a press conference hyping up UFC 139 this afternoon at 4 p.m. ET. In attendance will be main event fighters Dan Henderson and Mauricio Rua along with Cung Le and Wanderlei Silva. Silva and Le serve as the co-headliners with Silva stepping in to replace an injured Vitor Belfort.
UFC 139 takes place from San Jose, California on November 19th live on pay-per-view. The card is shaping up quite well so far with additional bouts including Brian Bowles vs. Urijah Faber in what should serve as a number one contender fight for the bantamweight division.
It will also be held one weekend after the UFC's debut on Fox which will provide some context for how much of a boost the visibility on network TV gives to the number of people willing to pay money to watch UFC events.

Fans are invited to Thursday's pre-event press conference for this weekend's UFC on Versus 6 event.
The presser takes place at The Newseum, an interactive museum of news and journalism located in Washington, D.C.
The press conference begins at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. PT), and doors open at noon ET. Scheduled to attend are UFC president Dana White, event headliners Dominick Cruz and Demetrious Johnson, co-headliners Pat Barry and Stefan Struve, and main-card fighters Anthony Johnson and Charlie Brenneman.
Here we go again. In the aftermath of a crazy weekend of fights, Ultimate Fighting Championship is right back in action promoting its next event, UFC on Versus 6, which is taking place at the end of the week (October 1, 2011) in Washington D.C.
Headlining the free show will be the return of UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz as he looks to defend his title for the fourth time against challenger Demetrious Johnson.
Cruz has risen to the top with a unique fighting style that has baffled every opponent in his way. He recently defended his belt against the only man to ever previously defeat him, Urijah Faber, at UFC 132. His opponent, Demetrious Johnson, is coming off the most impressive victory of his career against former WEC champion Miguel Torres at UFC 130. He's hoping his speed can make up for Cruz's unorthodox style.
The co-main event features a a very unique heavyweight battle as 6'11 Dutch fighter Stefan Struve takes on 5'11 American kickboxer Pat Barry. Both men are coming off of thrilling knockout losses in fights they had been previously winning and this has the potential to have the most awkward pre-fight staredown in UFC history.
Cruz, Johnson, Struve and Barry will participate in a special UFC on Versus 6 media conference call today (September 26, 2011) at 1 p.m. ET.
MMAmania.com will deliver up-to-the-second live updates of the conference call after the jump:

Matt Hughes wants UFC to put him on the shelf for a bit while he thinks things over. Dana White wants to put Hughes on the shelf for good. Following a KO loss to Josh Koscheck at UFC 135, Hughes didn’t want to officially say that he was retired, but White believes that is the case.
“I think he’s going to retire,” White said at the post-fight press conference. “I just don’t think Hughes wants to say the word ‘retire.’”
The loss to Koscheck, which came at 4:59 in the first round, was Hughes’ second straight KO loss. It was also the last fight on his current contract. While White has never been concerned with the contract status of Hughes, saying, “There was a lot of talk that this was the last fight on his contract. I don’t know if that’s true or not because he’s a guy I’ve never worried about last fights or whatever,” the UFC president will talk things over with the UFC Hall of Famer and figure out what’s next.
“He’s going to fly out to Vegas in the next month or so and sit down and talk, but I’m pretty sure he’s going to hang it up – without saying ‘retire,’” stated White. “I’m almost 100 percent positive he’s going to retire. I don’t think he’s going to do anything else.”
Prior to his bout with Koscheck, Hughes said that he wanted to go out with a victory and that his wife will play a major factor in what he decides to do next.
Hughes’ fight on Saturday was his 25th appearance in the octagon, tied for the most all-time with Tito Ortiz. His eighteen UFC wins are the most in company history.

"Bones" Jones is the current UFC light heavyweight champion, having recently defeated Mauricio Rua at UFC 128 for the title. This will be his first attempt to defend his belt. This will be yet another opportunity to live up to (or exceed) the hype.
On the opposite side of the podium will be the challenger to his title, former UFC 205 pound champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, who earned a shot at the belt after consecutive victories over Lyoto Machida and Matt Hamill respectively.
Matt Hughes is a former two-time undisputed UFC welterweight champion on the tail end of his career. He's coming off a tough first round loss to B.J. Penn, losing the trilogy in the process.
His opponent, Josh Koscheck, stepped up on short notice when Diego Sanchez broke his hand in training. Koscheck is one fight removed from challenging for the UFC welterweight title last December and is looking to get back on track with a big victory against a legend.

MMAWeekly.com on Tuesday caught up with UFC No. 1 heavyweight contender Junior Dos Santos at the UFC on Fox kickoff press conference in Hollywood, Calif.
UFC president Dana White alongside UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and challenger Junior Dos Santos held a press conference on Tuesday to kick of UFC on Fox 1 set for Nov. 12 in Anaheim, Calif. Listen in.
The UFC and FOX held a press conference today to get the ball rolling on ticket sales for the Nov. 12 UFC on FOX 1 show in Anaheim.
Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos both gave the type of modest, respectful answers that we’ve come to expect from them. Dana White said he chose this match-up to kick off the FOX deal because there’s no doubt in his mind that this is going to be a great fight whether it lasts 25 seconds or 25 minutes.
No major news was announced at the press conference, but FOX Sports president Eric Shanks did reveal that they’ve already sold-out all their ad inventory for the show, which is a good sign. When asked what they’re ratings expectations are, Shanks joked that it had to beat the “Two and a Half Men”premiere last night that did nearly 30 million viewers, but obviously no one is expecting that.
Dana White says they’re still working out the details on how the rest of the card will be broadcast, but says the fights will be shown one way or another, possibly through Facebook or Fox.com. The one thing Dana is sure about though is how lucky they are to have great partners in FOX.
“When I say Fox has been an amazing partner, they’re not even our partners yet. The deal doesn’t start till January, these guys have gone above and beyond what we ever expected,” said White. “The next seven years are going to be amazing.”

In honor of Cliffnotes enabling me to consistently pass English Literature throughout high school, I've compiled a list of a few notes of the UFC on FOX press conference that happened at the W Hotel in Hollywood, California today. I've been doing this MMA stuff for a while and I've never been in a press conference with fans that were this boisterous. They were literally going nuts at every mention of Cain Velasquez and when someone from the audience screamed 'I love you Dana,' the entire room reverberated with cheers.
Dana says the UFC on FOX show will have a few added 'bells and whistles,' production wise.
When Junior Dos Santos entered the conference, the fans screamed 'culero' which is apparently Spanish for a very dirty place on the human body.
Dana says they've had more meetings with FOX than any other television entity they've ever dealed with. Admits the pressure is on them to deliver, but JDS and Cain will do what they always do.
Still working on broadcasting/streaming the other fights -- mentions Facebook or FOX.com.
The ad sales are really, really high for the event.
Dana says the UFC has already received more credibility being associated with FOX.
When discussing advertisers, someone yelled 'Pinkberry' and everyone went nuts -- again.
Josh Gross from ESPN made it to the front row of the UFC on FOX press conference. Looks like Dana and Josh finally squashed their beef from the entire TUF 4 debacle.
Eric Shanks of FOX said that MMA is a sport that he always wanted to get into.
Dana opens the questions up to the fans, one person asks if Cain thinks Junior Dos Santos hits harder than Cheick Kongo.
Another fan asks Cain if he can envision himself fighting Alistair Overeem. The crowd goes nuts, again.
Ahead of the first UFC on Fox event on Nov. 12, the UFC will hold a press conference today in Los Angeles featuring UFC President Dana White alongside UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and challenger Junior dos Santos, who meet in the UFC on Fox main event.
Live video of the press conference is below:
Though the bout may not have the spice of a personal rivalry, this November’s upcoming title-fight between champion Cain Velasquez and top contender Junior dos Santos should result in a red-hot rumble between the two talented heavyweights. Making matters even more explosive is the fact the bout will take place at UFC on FOX, the organization’s debut on network television, and will be broadcast to an audience unlike any other the UFC has had thus far.
Along the many promotional stops before the popular pugilists take to the Octagon to settle their professional dispute, both men will meet with press this afternoon at 4:00 PM EST and Five Ounces of Pain will be along for the ride.
Joining Velasquez and Dos Santos on the stage will be UFC President Dana White who should no doubt have some interesting things to say given the scale of the scrap and recent rumors of Dan Henderson heading back to the UFC for a third time.

The UFC is hosting a press conference at 4 p.m. ET to promote their debut show on the Fox network. UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, challenger Junior dos Santos , and UFC President Dana White will appear at the press conference. Video will stream at UFC.com.
Cain Velasquez (9-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) will attempt to make his first defense of the heavyweight belt he won from Brock Lesnar last October at UFC 121. Velasquez injured his rotator cuff in the fight against Lesnar. The subsequent surgery and rehab kept him out of training for over six months.
Junior dos Santos (13-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC) reaffirmed his place as the number one contender with a dominant decision victory over Shane Carwin at UFC 131. Dos Santos was originally scheduled to fight former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, but another round of diverticulitis forced Lesnar off the card.
The press conference takes place at W Hollywood Hotel in Hollywood, California, and it is open to the public.

Ultimate Fighting Championship will hold a public press conference today (Sept. 20, 2011) to promote UFC on FOX: Velasquez vs. dos Santos, which is scheduled for Nov. 12, 2011.
The conference will begin at 4 p.m. ET live from the West Hollywood Hotel in Hollywood, California, although the fight event will be taking place in Anaheim.
Scheduled to attend will be UFC president Dana White, as well as the headlining fighters of the evening, Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos.
Velasquez is the current UFC heavyweight champion. The American Kickboxing Academy product defeated Brock Lesnar via first round technical knockout to capture the title and has been on the mend rehabbing from shoulder surgery ever since.
His challenger, Junior dos Santos, defeated Roy Nelson at UFC 117 to become number one contender but when Velasquez was sidelined, he instead opted to coach against Brock Lesnar on season 13 of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF). Lesnar was also scratched with an injury and dos Santos dominated Shane Carwin to regain his position.

The press conference is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. ET.
The UFC 135 main eventers – Jon Jones, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, Matt Hughes, and Josh Koscheck – held a media conference call on Monday. Listen to the full audio of the call.
The smack talk between Jones and Rampage is beginning to turn into an improvised version of Evans vs. Jackson back in 2009. You know, when everything sincerely thought Kimbo Slice would defeat Roy Nelson inside The Ultimate Fighter house. It was undoubtedly the most entertaining TUF season since the first season and most of that can be attributed to the wild nicknames Rampage Jackson granted on the members of Rashad Evans' team. He's a clever connoisseur of the English language and when it comes to engaging in verbal warfare, it's generally common knowledge that Rampage will always win. During the UFC 135 press conference, everyone in the media was sent another friendly reminder that Rampage really is that guy on the playground that made kids cry just by making fun of them. Check out the entire conference call while you do something in your apartment, don't worry we don't mind.
Former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz missed two scheduled press conferences and will not fight Georges St. Pierre at UFC 137. UFC President Dana White was quick to crackdown against the frequent rule breaker, while also setting an example for other fighters unwilling to go along with the Zuffa empire.
Even longtime coach and mentor, Cesar Gracie, believes Diaz “got what he deserved” for skipping the scheduled press conferences in Toronto and Las Vegas.
Meanwhile, Carlos Condit
Diaz is a long-time rule breaker, but most within the MMA community assumed he would go along with things enough to earn himself the UFC welterweight title shot. It’s foolish to believe White and the UFC brass thought Diaz, even with the
possibility of a big payday and title shot would suddenly “play the game.”
Ironically, a simple conference call — which Diaz has routinely skipped in the past — would have helped hype the fight without forcing the fighters to travel so much prior to the fight. Either way, Diaz should have realized there would be severe consequences for missing the press conference, and we’ll see what develops from here.
It’ll be interesting to see if the UFC releases Diaz altogether, or if they will give him another shot in the No. 1 MMA organization. Diaz has good boxing, tireless cardio, and solid BJJ skills that will pose instant problems for most welterweights (both inside and out of the UFC octagon).
