But the return to the New Jersey city is one Dana White has wanted to make for some time.
As the UFC president recently said, the city was one of the first to open its arms to the Zuffa-owned UFC more than a decade ago, and White credits one person for that: Donald Trump.

According to a report by the Press of Atlantic City, the recently announced UFC on FX 4 fight card will grace the Revel entertainment resort and casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
The UFC will be heading back to Atlantic City for the first time since bringing UFC 53 to the Boardwalk Hall back in 2005. The apparently luxurious Revel Atlantic City is a brand new addition to the Jersey shore and will host UFC on FX 4 in a 5,500 seat arena.
The resort and casino isn’t scheduled to open its doors for the first time until April 2, with a full opening scheduled for May 25, just a month out from the fights.
Headlining the fight card will be a lightweight tilt between two-time title challenger Gray Maynard (10-1-1, 1 NC) and division staple Clay Guida (29-12). Coming off of his two-fight title series with recently dethroned champ Frankie Edgar, a refreshed Maynard will be looking to reestablish his presence in the division against Guida. Perennially positioned near the top of the weight class, Guida’s aim is to rebound from a November loss to current champ Benson Henderson.
A welterweight matchup between Mike Pierce (13-5) and Carlos Eduardo Rocha (9-1) has also been linked to the event.

From Press of Atlantic City:
The country's most popular mixed martial arts organization announced Monday that it will end its seven-year hiatus from Atlantic City on Friday, June 22 when it stages a card at Revel's 5,500-seat entertainment arena.
"I've never been to Atlantic City," Maynard said in a phone interview from Las Vegas. "I'm looking forward to it."
The $2.4 billion casino resort is scheduled to open April 2.
Maynard, a former two-time number one division contender, spent the entire 2011 mixed martial arts (MMA) fight season attempting to wrest the belt from the resilient clutches of UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar.
Despite his best efforts, including two brutal first rounds at UFC 125 and UFC 136, during which he beat "The Answer" from pillar to post, Edgar stormed back to earn a draw and then a come-from-behind technical knockout.
"The Bully," who now trains at American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) in San Jose, Calif., will now have to fight his way back toward the top, starting with "The Carpenter."
Guida himself was in the 2011 lightweight number one contender "mix," submitting Takanori Gomi and decisioning the last man to hold the World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) lightweight belt, Anthony Pettis.
In fact, he was riding a four-fight win streak inside the Octagon before Ben Henderson derailed his hairy hopes, taking a unanimous decision in a great back-and-forth battle at UFC on Fox 1 just last month to earn the next shot at Edgar.
So close, yet so far away, for both veterans.
No other bouts or a potential venue for UFC on FX 4 are known at this time. UFC 53: "Heavy Hitters" in June 2005 was the last time the organization held an event in South Jersey.
Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for the latest UFC on FX 4 news and notes.
A lightweight bout between recent title challenger Gray Maynard and regular top contender Clay Guida has been booked for UFC on FX 3 in Atlantic City, N.J.
With Manchester United going up 2-0 on West Brom 10 minutes earlier, Man City fans immediately knew what Luke Moore's 83rd-minute goal to put Swansea up 1-0 on their side meant. And so, at least a few of them started crying.
Both scorelines ended the way they were in that moment, allowing Man United to hop over City in the table. And though there's still a significant chunk of the season left to be played, the man pictured above knows it won't be easy. The fact that he was on camera at this moment will probably come as a surprise to him, though.

The bigwigs behind Bay City Brawler's were so enamored with Cynthia Vance's previous works for ONE FC, they decided that they had to have MMA's best new editor create their promo for tonight's event. Without further ado, here it is.

Eight months ago the UFC packed 55,000 fans into the Rogers Centre to watch Georges St. Pierre defend his welterweight title against Jake Shields. The atmosphere was electric and the Canadian fans showed up in droves to support the national hero. This week there is a completely different story. Instead of an enormous sold out crowd, Jon Jones and Lyoto Machida may do battle in front of a partially filled Air Canada Centre.
The Toronto Sun was the first to report on the ticketing troubles surrounding the event. When the UFC rolled into town for UFC 129, the city was abuzz with excitement and expectations. The first event was a huge success with local media doing their part in building up the supercard. For UFC 140, it would appear that they just haven't gotten on board with the promotion. The city is all but dead with the event just a week away. From the Toronto Sun:
Despite the great line-up, there's been little hoopla over the city's second ever UFC event, which still has tickets available.
In reality, with so many cities around the world clamouring to host the UFC these days, Toronto should be counting its blessings. Only Montreal in 2010 and Las Vegas, where the UFC is headquartered, have ever held two events in the same year, Wright said.
The UFC will likely come to town at least once a year from now on, he said, adding the ACC show is more in line with a typical UFC event.
As with most UFC events, they usually do a major marketing push the week of the fights so come Saturday the expectation is that the Air Canada Centre will be full. However, the fact that one of the last major cards of 2011 is not yet sold out may reflect on the general feeling that the UFC's schedule is having adverse affects on their revenue stream. It may also be asking too much for the local audience to get excited for MMA for a second time in the same year after such a huge first event.

Bellator 59 went live last night from the Caesars Atlantic City in Atlantic City, New Jersey. As a resident of Greater Vancouver, nothing annoys me more than the false idea that the city of Vancouver is interested in hosting MMA events within the city limits. Two UFC events, UFC 115 and UFC 131, have taken place in GM Place. This is true. But the UFC has had to deal with unreasonable demands from the city all the way throughout the process, whether it was asking the promotion to provide ridiculous amounts of insurance, or telling them to pay for an increased police presence, or just plain not supporting the idea in the first place. And to the shock of approximately no one, Tom Wright says the UFC probably won't be coming back to Vancouver in 2012 (via the Canadian Press):
And the disappointing thing for our sport is that after a two-year test period, they've had two tests -- ours," Wright said Wednesday. "Because no other promotion could afford the indemnification or the insurance costs or the other things -- or actually have the perseverance to get an event to be held there.
"Will we go back to Vancouver in time? Yeah. Will it be next year? I doubt it."
The two-year test he's referring to was the city's way of trying to make some coin while not actually passing any real laws. They knew it was up to the provincial government to deal with this sort of thing, so they passed this "test period" to get the UFC into town while avoiding any real push for legislation, and despite their unreasonable demands, the UFC obliged them. Twice. No one else could afford to run shows in the city, and that was by design.
I could write a novel on the situation, but the basic point for Pacific Northwest MMA fans is that UFC isn't coming back to Vancouver any time soon. And with good reason. Should Vancouver be happy and feel lucky they've hosted two UFC events? Maybe. I'm sure New Yorkers aren't feeling much sympathy for us right now. But the fact that the city (and the province) doesn't understand what it's dealing with and despite two passes through the city, it still doesn't get it. They're more concerned with the almightly buck than cultivating anything resembling a sports culture in the city. And they wonder why they're forced to fend off riots.
Filed under: UFC, NewsAfter bringing MMA's biggest traveling road show to Vancouver in both 2010 and 2011, the UFC is unlikely to return to the picturesque British Columbian city in 2012.
That news comes from the UFC's director of operations in Canada, Tom Wright, who told The Canadian Press that the promotion would visit three of the country's cities next year, and Vancouver isn't expected to be one of them.
The reason? The shows certainly weren't financial failures. 2010's UFC 115 did a $4.2 million gate, while UFC 131, held this past June, drew a $2.8 million gate. Instead, the problem is regulatory stalling. Both of the UFC's events were held during a two-year test period held by the city after overturning a previous ban on MMA. That test period will end in the coming months and apparently, the prospects of sanctioned MMA will go with it.
"And the disappointing thing for our sport is that after a two-year test period, they've had two tests -- ours," Wright said. "Because no other promotion could afford the indemnification or the insurance costs or the other things -- or actually have the perseverance to get an event to be held there."
While the MMA events were both financial boons for the city and promotion, UFC officials navigated a rocky road with Vancouver officials over several issues, including insurance costs. Most recently, before the UFC's scheduled June 11 event, Vancouver police chief Jim Chu requested that the promotion contribute to policing costs "to prevent what might occur in terms of neighborhood problems."
The UFC refused the request, saying they weren't prepared to be treated differently than other events held there. Ironically, at the time, Wright told MMA Fighting that he explained to Chu, "If I were the Chief, I'd be more worried about Canuck fans (celebrating or crying in their beers) than UFC fans."
The UFC event came and went with no problems, but just days later, after the hometown Canucks lost in the Stanley Cup Finals, over 100 people were arrested as riots erupted on the city's streets.
According to Wright, Toronto and Montreal will see major UFC shows in 2012, but the third Canadian host city remains undetermined. It's possible the third show will be a smaller "Fight Night" event. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
